However, I would like to clear up some misinformation concerning Aloe Vera causing kidney damage. I am a naturpathic doctor of 30+ years, who has personally and professionally used Aloe Vera in all forms. Aloe Vera used safely, that is with the latex and aloe removed, can be used without causing harm either externally or internally. Use only the inner pulp and enjoy all the benefits that this blessed herb gives us.

That said, I'll still suggest periodic use to allow organs like the kidneys to recover and err on the side of caution. It also helps to always remember the principle of hormesis where a little is beneficial whereas higher doses can produce adverse outcomes

I drink 2 tablespoons of pure Aloe Vera blended into 8 ounces of water every morning and have for many years. I am in great health for 70 years old and can pass for 50.😊 I hope that we can both agree that the misuse and overuse of any food, including Aloe Vera, can cause adverse affects. I keep Aloe veta juice on hand for stomach issues only. I'm a 67 year old with several health issues, but none that REQUIRES prescription drugs. When I take too many otc anti-inflammatory meds, my stomach warns me with the cramping. I will drink about four ozs of the Aloe vera on an empty stomach, problem solved. Bone broth will also work with this issue.
I almost bought aloe Vera juice as a supplement but never really was convinced by it as a source of value to my body and now that you have confirmed it I thank you for sharing this information.

In the section on how licorice can raise your blood pressure the health care provider in the video was taking the patient's BP with the cuff over her shirt. That is a no no. It is improtant to understand the various functions and benefits of herbs and plants. The most important thing to know and understand is that different herbs have very specific uses for different ailments which can provide many great health benefits when the body and all of its systems have undergone a detoxification process while implementing specific herbs and plants for that purpose.
If you’re using creatine, I understand that you need a different test for your kidneys. The normal test detects creatinine. Creatine can make more of that in your system which isn’t caused by damage.
Very sad to see Stinging Nettle is on this list. Stinging Nettle has really helped my allergies year round. Stinging nettle has so many health benefits. Thank you for this information.
Hi Dr Joe, I use an aloe Vera capsule in the mornings to help with gerd. Does the capsule cause the same problem, if so I’ll stop immediately. No kidney problems and I definitely don’t want any. Thanks for all the helpful info.
I'd suggest you check your kidney function with your doctor. If it is fine, you may continue using it. But if you have developed Chronic Kidney Disease, then it would make sense you stop using it
Dr. Joe . I thought that nettle tea was helpful in kidney function ? I've used it before in my weight loss a few years ago and my creatinine levels improved drinking it. I've might've had 3 cups a week during that time. Thanks for the video.
Some people get away with certain supplements but it is best avoided especially those with pre-existing kidney disease (CKD Stage 3 and below in particular). The National Kidney Foundation have it on their list of supplements to avoid as well.

Most healthy folks may not experience the kidney damaging effects when used for short periods. However, if you noticed I opened the video with special reference to folks with metabolic diseases and obesity and I also gave a warning to special groups of people in the creatine segment in the video. Watch the video again and listen to what I said and the nuance of what I said will be clearer to you
I am a seventy-five-year-old male. I started Micronized Creatine Monohydrate several months ago. I have been taking only one and half grams in the morning before breakfast for my general health. I am not a weight lifter. I found it made my legs feel stronger. That is not much creatine compared to what weight lifters typically take. Should I be concerned with that low intake?

Now, i don't know how much creatine this young man was using - based on what i have read about taking creatine. Taking low amounts of it is safe and creatine has also been shown for mental health..

They have to make me eat high phosphorus foods to get mine up. You have to monitor your own health though but nettle tea is a beast for kidney health. I get labs every month regarding my kidney numbers. I know what mine are at all times.
Not quite. Yes, it is a high potassium food but at the level of regular consumption, it shouldn't cause much harm unless one overdoes it or you have advanced kidney damage. You could say the same thing about avocados or oats etc

Creatine wouldnt make you look ripped but rather fuller in size due to cells taking in more water. At any rate, I stopped using it 12 years ago after I was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome. I had taken a lot of protein and creatine until then.
Dear Doctor Joe, I have been using nettle leaf tea for about 2 years because I read that it helps to reduce inflammation and thus is good for the treatment of kidney disease. I am not sure if the one I use is another type of nettle leaf or stinging nettle, but it has not done any harm to my kidneys. What is your take on that. As you saw in the video, it's got uses. It's got healing properties but the kidney effect is a side effect. It's the stinging nettles, by the way. The issue with it is that it is high in phosphorus. So if you have pre-existing kidney disease, it's best to avoid it. I suspect you don't as it hasn't caused you harm in 2 years
It is difficult to isolate which Aloe products, fresh or otherwise, because of standardisation issues. The direct effect on the kidneys, electrolyte derangement and interaction with some medications will make it an unwise choice especially if you have pre-existing kidney disease
If you are very keen on it, then I'd suggest periodic use. That way you always give your kidneys time to recover, if that makes sense. Always remember our body will do its best to heal, if we give it time and space. Our body is a well engineered "piece of equipment"
If you think it is performing some function for you, then you may continue using it but I'll suggest periodic use to give your body a break. If you have pre-existing kidney disease though, then I'll suggest you stop using it
@@annew7227 See it as a side effect of aloe. You may get away with it. My suggestion - use it periodically (if you must use it for whatever reason). That gives your kidneys time to recover. Also beware it will make you lose potassium over and over again even if it doesn't cause you acute kidney injury
Hey Dr. Joe. I use nettle tea to bring my kidney function up. But I’m on a low protein diet. I drink it about 3-4 times a week. I’m also on dialysis. I’m a little confused on why you say it’s not good for the kidneys. I’ve found videos also saying it brings the creatinine numbers up quickly which why I started using it in the first place. Can you help me understand why I shouldn’t drink it when it’s helping?
@@carlosw5860 I know for a fact it’s helping me. I get lab work every month & there is no signs of my kidney health declining because of drinking nettle tea. It’s getting better. I’ve been drinking for about 2 years on& off but here lately I’ve been more consistent and my health is getting better. I’ve seen several people on TH-cam that are very knowledgeable about the kidney speak well of nettle tea. The only thing I would say is don’t take it with medication. Allow at least 2-4 hours to pass before you take it. That’s what I do.
It depends on why you are using it in the first place. But I'd suggest you use it periodically. That is to say, give your body a break and allow any organs affected to recover. Then resume again maybe 4 - 6 months later. Just my suggestion
You did not specify if aloe Vera was also unsafe for external use. And was the one example due to taking an amount of creatine above what's recommended? You weren't clear.

Aloe very will not harm your kidney unless you over use it. Creatine will not also damages your kidneys unless you you have some medical conditions and using some kind of drugs....

Dr. People claim that blending raw aloe vera with ginger boosts your skin and also helps to detoxify
Using it a couple of times should be okay. It's prolonged consistent use that constitutes a problem

@@annew7227 See it as a side effect of aloe. You may get away with it. My suggestion - use it periodically (if you must use it for whatever reason). That gives your kidneys time to recover. Also beware it will make you lose potassium over and over again even if it doesn't cause you acute kidney injury
Hey Dr. Joe. I use nettle tea to bring my kidney function up. But I’m on a low protein diet. I drink it about 3-4 times a week. I’m also on dialysis. I’m a little confused on why you say it’s not good for the kidneys. I’ve found videos also saying it brings the creatinine numbers up quickly which why I started using it in the first place. Can you help me understand why I shouldn’t drink it when it’s helping?

@@carlosw5860 I know for a fact it’s helping me. I get lab work every month & there is no signs of my kidney health declining because of drinking nettle tea. It’s getting better. I’ve been drinking for about 2 years on& off but here lately I’ve been more consistent and my health is getting better. I’ve seen several people on TH-cam that are very knowledgeable about the kidney speak well of nettle tea. The only thing I would say is don’t take it with medication. Allow at least 2-4 hours to pass before you take it. That’s what I do.
It's because it is high in Phosphorus. Not good for folks who have metabolic diseases inclusive of compromised kidney function
Can you tell me more about how nettle is helping. Mother is currently healing from poor kidney function.

It depends on why you are using it in the first place. But I'd suggest you use it periodically. That is to say, give your body a break and allow any organs affected to recover. Then resume again maybe 4 - 6 months later. Just my suggestion
You did not specify if aloe Vera was also unsafe for external use. And was the one example due to taking an amount of creatine above what's recommended? You weren't clear.

Aloe very will not harm your kidney unless you over use it. Creatine will not also damages your kidneys unless you you have some medical conditions and using some kind of drugs....
Of course periodic use of aloe is fine and I need not repeat the conditions attached to creatine use here. It's all in the video
