- We test Blue DEF Platinum with a refractometer and a floating disc tester on 5 month and 21 month old DEF.

I'm a retired logger and fixed a lot of crap try this it worked for me Def bypass tip on the transmission is either a sensor or solenoid unplug it and then run a ground wire to ground and fused power wire with a resistor in line that hack works on low oil cutoffs put the resister on the plug wire to trick it
Good info. Simple and easy to understand. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative and great video! 👍

There was an article in Turbo Diesel Register last year (unfortunately I no longer have the magazine) in which the author purposely diluted the DEF in a Ram Cummins with distilled water and tested it with a refractometer at various levels to see at what point the truck's sensors would display an error code. I can't recall exactly, but surprisingly the truck ran without any error codes with the DEF being significantly diluted. And although the author didn't recommend diluting DEF, the point of the article was to show that DEF with a urea concentration of a few percentage points less than 32.5% for a short time didn't result in any error codes.
It's hard to get any accurate information out of any dealership. Some of them just don't have any answers, it all depends on how good their mechanic is.
Thanks for the info!
The "quality" sensor is extremely misleading. There is no onboard test for the "quality". The sensor is really warning about quantity. If you get this warning, remove the doser pump from the SCR and inspect for crystallization, clean off crystallization with either DEF or distilled water. Make sure the doser is spraying while you're at it.

Awesome! Thanks for the info!
No worries!
Thank you. I switched to the platinum and my average miles between regen jumped from mid 300s to over 500 miles
Awesome!
Thanks for watching!
It’s all in the details.
Very cool my friend going to purchase a refractomiter🏋️♀️👍🤺
They really are sweet!
Thanks!
Very good info, does the refractometer work for other substances, like coolant?
I'm not sure on the coolant.
I'll be researching that.
Thanks for watching!
@@pmtips4482 I have a Coolant one, my guess you need a particular one for each substance
This is the best idea. It's no fun when you put bad def in. Must go to the dealer.
Thanks for watching!
Is the Blue (Platinum) beter then the other def's , have you tested Platinum against regular def fluids other bramds and so forth
I have not tested the different brands.
I'm going to trust the science of Old World Industries and stay on the look out for any updated technology in the diesel exhaust fluid world.
Thanks for watching!
Why can't they make the date code easy to read? they do it on tires and some beers.
I hear you!
Thanks for watching!
There is no experation date. what makes it bad is at what temp it is stored at if the warehouse is 80 degrees it is good for 2 months if it was stored unopen at 50 degrees 2 years that is why there is no born on date.
Is there any truth to it’s helping ? I’m curious
Did you shake up the bottle of DEF incase there was phase separation. OK I heard later in the video you said you did shake them.
Thanks for watching!
I bought the Blue def Platinum as well. How do you check the born on date?
Depending on each plant and each line, different born on date codes are used. I called Old World Industries to confirm.

When my 2017 Silverado regen s it only gets down to 10 to 15 percent not 0 is this normal?
If you're talking about the particulate filter differential values...I can't see those on my 6.7 Cummins.
Your filling the nappa unit to high, instructions say only to the line about half way up. Being to high will cause gravity to pull down.
After using the spectrometer, I wouldn't use anything else anyway.
Thanks for watching!
how u know the tester is accurate ?
It's a 100 percent mechanical/optical device.
It should be extremely consistent.
Thanks for watching!
Old DEF can be used as fertilizer.
Good to know!
Thanks!
I don't know about that. It kills the grass
There is no experation date if it is not opened and stored at or below 50 degrees F and above freezing it is good for at minimum 2 years. once it is open you have about 10-30 days of it being good.
Thanks for the info!
No o e had issues before def it was either ur motor or turbo or injectors or something small now this def it’s a joke
That causes way to mutch crap sensors or filter or valve or egr this that bull in my opinion
O it’s deff it clogs the valve then ur problems start it’s just a joke the whole def system killing trucks
The DEF isn't the cause.
Fault codes are mostly caused by a faulty sensor.
The dealers are blaming the fluid.
Rip off merchants.
Or caused by crystallization.
