    I have been using auto launch successfully on my Mini Talon for a couple of years, but will add the voice prompts for up elevator and stabilization switch to the mix. Great video, made it easy for someone new to see the process. Well done.

    Bill,
    This is a nice video. When I was viewing it I was thinking that you need to add a couple of "hold" rings on the wing, forward of the motor, and make a hand held release device so you can launch the bird without getting your wrists and hands next to the prop. Once you take the APM out of throttle hold the motor is "hot", and if you have some sort of glitch in the APM with or without the throttle hold enabled, that prop will slice into both wrists, and or hands which could be life threatening especially if you are out at the field all alone.
    Cheers,
    Bernie

      +Bernie L Hi bernie thanks and its working just fine. To be honest I am not to worried about holding the model there as the I have always launched it that way even with the Arkbird. The beauty of this is that the Taranis is holding the throttle off and not the APM in this instance and I know it will not start at all until the word "Launch" is announced after the countdown. I like this much more than Auto Launch on a flight controller as its much more controllable and configurable. Bill

    Really nice "How-To" Bill. Thanks for doing this as I am about to maiden my second FX and this has me re-thinking how I programmed auto launch for my MiniTalon (in the Taranis). The MT works perfectly but I don't launch it with a bungee. I generally do with my wings so this gives me some other ideas with respect to timing and I love the voice prompts - very sexy!
    Cheers - Mark

      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mark I am really liking this Taranis programmed auto launch as its very configurable and customisable, since this video was made I also added another line in there to hold off the throttle until it is needed to start the motor which just gives a little bit more peace of mind being around the prop like that. Cheers Bill

      Hi Jake thanks mate and it works like a dream so much more customisation and configuration than on a flight controller and anyone with opentx or the likes can do it this way I can upload the voice file for the Taranis for anyone that wants to have a blast with it.

      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks and works very nicely for other models to. I have since added another line as a safety feature to automatically hold off the throttle until it is needed, just a bit more piece of mind 😀

    • @BillHally
      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK the other line I added for prop safety is this, " R (-100%) MAX Switch (SE) " I cannot show the down arrow for the switch position as it is not on my keyboard. SE is the switch I use to activate the Autolaunch sequence. The above line entered above the line in the video will hold of the throttle totally until it is released after the delay period, it works great and even guards against accidentally moving the throttle stick up. Hope that helps Bill

  • @raptr49
    @raptr49 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job Bill. But as for me, I will never stick my hands near the prop with the battery active. I've seen way too many accidental spin-ups for one reason or another, some with disastrous results.

    • @BillHally
      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dieter Preiser Hi Dieter thanks. When I first started flying this wing I could not hand launch it as I was very worried about the spinning prop as it left my hand so went for bungee. I have now launched it this way for over two years without incident but have to admit to being very cautious at first with another flight controller controlling the throttle. On my transmitters I have always programmed a throttle hold switch for safety. Now since making this video I have added another line into my Taranis programming that automatically holds the throttle off until after the launch when it is about 100 metres away from me, even accidentally pushing up the throttle stick will not spin up the motor whilst in launch mode. I am much more comfortable with this as the Taranis has total control of it whilst I am launching and I know that it will not spin up on me. Believe me I am well aware what can happen around spining props as I have seen it first hand and it aint pretty. Bill

  • @XRPgeneration

    Beautiful Bill ! Would this work with a FY-AP41 lite ? I guess it would as it's actually only question of switching the switch to stabilised mode. Motor and elevator are directly activated through your mixes I saw in the beginning of this video. Is that about right ? Does the switch actually move physically to the stabilised mode position, and the same question for the throttle stick ? And finally, how do you exit this launch sequence ? You switch the "launch" switch manually back to nul ? In this video I think I heard your Taranis say "autolaunch off". Which switch did you program for the autolaunch actually ? I believe I didn't see that in this video. If you have time .....Thanks Bill. Phil

    • @BillHally
      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Phil and yes it will work with any flight controller as all programming is done on the Taranis. i used the SE switch on the Taranis to activate Auto Launch and then of course the switch off to take control again. Sticks and switches dont physically move during the procedure as its all done in software. Before switching it off it is best to increase the throttle stick a little and manually switch to the mode you want before taking off Auto Launch switch.

      Mini Talon for me everytime, dont get me wrong the Phantom 61 is a good air frame but the Mini talon is a great all rounder.

    Great solution! Just built fx-61 myself with pixhawk lite and Taranis. Just ordered some 6mm bungee cord from HK. I see you gave your's doubled up? My main question us about the hook on the plane. What did you use and what position is this fitted to the plane? Thanks Paul

    • @BillHally
      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paul Atherton Yes I folded the 20m to 10 metre lengths same pull for shorter distance. Underneath my FX-61 I fitted a piece of square carbon tube then fitted my hook to that 5 inches back from the nose.

    • @athertop
      @athertop 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BillHally I just received the bungee from HK - its actually just a 10m length, and before I realised yours was 20m, I doubled it up, so un-stretched its just 5m. Thinking this may be a little too short. The bungee is made of silicone tube here's a link: www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__67616__HobbyKing_174_8482_6mm_Silicon_Rubber_Bungee_Hi_Start_Cord_UK_Warehouse_.html
      Wondering f I should buy a second length to double it up at 10m instead of 5m

      If it was me I would try it first to see what happens.

    • @athertop
      @athertop 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BillHally wondered if you've ever put a scale on that bungee to measure the load on that line fully stretched. Going to test fly mine today. I have 2 lengths of 8mm latex tube bungee (it's the blue bungee from HK) doubled up with about 5m nylon strap attachedto those with a loop on the end for the model hook. Tested the load yesterday and can get it to about 6kg at a push.

    • @BillHally
      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paul Atherton No I have never measured the pull sorry.

    So... Now the taranis have an available autopilot of the counter "Hobby shop counter" ??

    • @BillHally
      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry but I don't understand your question.

    • @Migueldeservantes
      @Migueldeservantes 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +BillHally The title of your video implies that you are programming an autopilot. and the only think that comes to mind is that the autopilot is Frsky Taranis brand.. that is what I was asking about.

    • @BillHally
      @BillHally  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Migueldeservantes No you mistake my heading which is "Auto Launch" and not "Auto Pilot". This is simply a means to enable some one with Taranis to programme an Auto Launch sequence into their transmitter for launching aircraft automaticallyl.

    • @Migueldeservantes
      @Migueldeservantes 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BillHally

      Nick Boylan No they wont be on your Taranis as I made them myself. Its easy to do online but you will need to customise it to your requirements.
