    I have the 18v hitachi drill and impact driver, impact is 5yo ...Awesome.... can't fault it...... The drill is about 1yo. The chuck drops bits out all the time, even small 4mm bits after 20-30 holes... bigger stuff sooner..... drives me bonkers.... (So peaked my interest when you mentioned it dropping things out of chuck) Also, when you have a big holesaw in the drill, the biggest annoyance of this drill (I don't have other brands to compare, so it may be common these days) is the sudden stop, it's very hard to trail the throttle off slowly even if you try too..... so of course it's sounds pretty harsh on the gearbox as well as your wrist....
    I also think this is a big factor in the chuck dropping all the bits regularly, the sudden stop helping to loose the chuck perhaps. (I've tried tightening it both direct, and also with the one click back to no avail...just fyi) ....
    In it's favour, the drill is plenty strong... never left wanting for power.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary, yeah I suppose the break may put a bit of load on the gearbox when stopping a big holesaw, not sure. I don't think would have affected your chuck though. Could be wrong. Cracking tools

    • @highroller8877
      @highroller8877 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man change your chuck to to plastic Rohm chuck. I got mine back from warranty and they changed the chuck to a plastic rohm. Only drops a bit about once a month. And I use the same bit all day everyday.
      Before it had the rohm metal chuck and it used to drop drill bits all the time sometimes every 30mins.
      I remember when makita came out with a hammer drill about 5 years ago with a rohm metal chuck a lot of people had the same problem of bits dropping all the time

    I've got to drill 200mm holes in living camphor as fast as possible with a 10mm auger. I'm guessing that requires a nice balance of torque at high speed. I'd love for someone to reliably inform me whether this drill does it better than the Dewalt dcd996? I've got dewalt tools right now, but i am totally willing to get this drill kit if it will do the job 20%+ faster?

    Stick with the 18v model. No real life benefit going with 36v on an impact driver or drill driver. On a circular saw I'd say yes it will help. But not on impact driver or drill driver. As I hear these two gentlemen talk, I hear them trying to sell these tools to themselves more than anything.
    The DeWalt 996 has 95Nm of torque while my Milwaukee M18 FDD2 packs 135Nm. Both feel powerful to me and perform the same as far as I can tell during torturous jobs with a 110mm hole saw through 2x6 or 2x10 lumber. Both occasionally want to twist my wrist off, and both trigger overheating protections on the tools or batteries. Out on the job that's where you will see the true colors, not on a TH-cam video.
    I like the video, I like what these guys do and I appreciate the time put into making these videos. But if you really want to know what is the best driver for you, consider cost, practicality, weight, and battery platform. For me, having a small remodeling business, DeWalt and Milwaukee is where it is at. Vast tool selection on both platforms and the batteries are fantastic with the FlexVolt on DeWalt and the M18 8Ah, 9Ah, and 12Ah batteries on Milwaukee. In fact, you can't go wrong with either one if you just want to stick to one brand.
    Don't waste your hard-earned dollar on silly platforms like this stuff here by Hikoki. Even though the tools are fantastic, the selection is not as good as yellow and red, and 36v batteries make no sense if I have to pop in the charger once or twice a day on a job. Moral of the story is, KISS, or Keep It Simple Stupid! :)

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Joe, thanks heaps for your input. Coupe of thoughts in reply:
      - Since the batteries are multivolt (18 or 36) it really makes no difference whether the tools are 18V or 36V, they are the basically identical anyway.
      - How will people see them on site if they aren't exposed to them? They have to look for reviews if they want to broaden their horizons right? We do our best in most reviews to use them on real construction projects/sites.
      - I disagree strongly that HiKoki is a 'silly' battery platform. Can you list some tools you think that many construction guys would need that they don't have?
      - I think you'd find the HiKoki stuff will probably have longer runtime than the Milwaukee equivalents, but not as long as the Dewalt. Running higher voltage (and lower amps) doesn't mean that the tool will automatically have crap runtime. Common misconception.

    • @joemadrid8331
      @joemadrid8331 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OZToolTalk Hi again. The deciding factor for me to not have an all hikoki outfit is simple: no left-side-blade circular saw. All hikoki circular saws on battery platform are right blade that I have seen. No one I work with has all hikoki tools for that very reason and they are right handed folks.
      If Hikoki would bring out a left-side-blade circular saw on the 36v battery platform it would give Makita, Dewalt, and Milwaukee a run for their money. If it were a worm drive style saw would be even better.
      The circular saw is a must have tool if you're a carpenter nowadays. For me, it was an easy pick. Dewalt and Milwaukee. Or like the other guy on the other channel calls it: Dewalkee 😊.

      @@joemadrid8331 They have a very good 36v worm drive style 7.25" with a left hand blade.
      Milwaukee didn't have a left hand 7.25 until recently either.
      This drill has 144 Nm of torque and being 36v, should run much cooler than the 18v version, or the M18 hammer drill
