As a person who grew up listening to Mac, this song never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Easily one of my favorite songs to exist, but man does it hurt. Feels like losing him again

This is one of the few celebrity deaths that hit me so hard. You can't listen to him pour his heart out for years and not feel something for him. It was a heartbreaking ending. What we all feared would happen, did.
He did check himself into rehab in 2016 (year after this dropped) but unfortunately he kept abusing the pills. Check out Guidelines, one of the last songs he ever dropped
This just brings back memories of me and my older brother in 2015 listening to this album and Godspeed came on. My brother said something so scary "10 years from now we would be listening to this verse/song and saying damn this was a cry for help because it will happen exactly as he is saying it if nothing changes" 9 years later, we are here 💔😥

He was really good friends with schoolboy q, but in this song that line is actually about one of his boys from highschool that rolled with him his entire career. He basically blew up rapping right when he finished highschool and had at least a couple friends from back then in his entourage til the end. you can see him in the old tour youtube vlogs mac did or on the mac miller tv show that mtv did.

edit: at the end you talked about Mac's mindset about being one of the greats and needing people to mentor him. He found all of that later on after this album. I wish you would just do an Album Reaction for "Swimming" and/or "Circles" to see Mac working together with Jon Brion (one of the greats in the producer/engineer field) and also finding his true musical spirit. Both of the Albums dont have genres to me, they are just Mac.
