I am sooooo glad I stumbled upon your channel, Patricia! More used to graphite, colored pencils, and acrylic paint, I am one of those people that find watercolor intimidating and hard to "control" and watching you paint is making me think there's hope for me to take the plunge. I love the koi painting!!!
I loved this. The painting is so beautiful. I think it’s wonderful you’ve named the fish and it is interesting to hear you talk about them. Naming the fish Heifer made me laugh. I do find the lesson very useful. Thank you.
Thank you Heian Woman. I love painting the koi, love caring for them and watching them, they are pets. They are funny, and we know them well, for they live many years if they are healthy. I think Heifer was around 35 when she passed last summer and we buried her in the garden with a flowering plant. I am glad you found the lesson helpful.
I’m so sorry she died. It is hard to lose entities we love no matter what their form. What a long life she had. I look forward to working through all your lessons.

Thank you. It probably took twenty hours, but some of them were spent figuring it out, what to do. My patience is great once I am involved, and trying to get something right to my eyes and expression, you likely know what I mean. It doesn’t just happen, you have to make it!
I enjoyed the stories about your fish during the painting. How did you preserve the little dots of white in the water? Did you just avoid putting water on those spots?
Yes, exactly. I wet the background quickly, and where it was dry I did not always spread the paint. I like the fresh whites showing, so do not always cover them. Thanks for your comment!
