The drummer is amazing ❤❤❤
Having a bad day, this is the cure
When Paula Cole is your backing vocalist you know you're bad ass.
That - or the fact that you've been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.......TWICE.....and had the most played music video EVER in MTV's history. Just a few sings you're a music god!
She was still a nobody back then and she was the last-minute substitute to sinead o'connor who backed out at the last minute. Paula Cole got the news to be back up and in a few days she was off to rehearsals.
@@rumblefish9 Sinead would've smashed.
agreed
The amazing thing about Paula Cole from this tour was she joined late with little opportunity to rehearse and absolutely killed it.
Yeah, and she even ended up marrying one of the musicans from that tour.
She’s so underrated! She still amazes me!! 💕
@@tkmorrison6404 She's an absolute dynamo chick.
Paula Cole released solo albums with the songs "Where have all the Cowboys gone" and "I don't want to wait"
thank you. had no idea that was Paula Cole!
Peter Gabriel believed we could all come together through music, dance, and the blending of culture, not the separation of culture. This proves he was absolutely right. Everyone who hears,, and sees this video loves it. He called this world music.
This always makes me cry. I saw them on this tour live with a friend who is no longer here.
Peter G' helped establish a recording studio in the 80's to record and promote musicians from around the World. WOMAD -World of music, arts, and dance. I have several CD's from the artists. There have been concert tour with WOMAD musicians, and Rock or Hip-hop. I saw two of these concerts in 1993, and 1994. There were musicians from African nations, Japan, India -with western musicians like Crowded House, Arrested Development, Lenny Kravitz, Midnight Oil, and Peter Gabriel as the headliner. The choreography, and band, and singers were like this performance. The singer near the end was Youssou N'Dour, from Senegal (if you can't figure out his language) - he and Peter G' did several collaborations.
Music brings us together so beutiful.
Gabriel is a musical genious.
He was jus in the studio recently writing music.. crazy he is still going strong
Yep.✋
And this was a PERFECT CONCERT.
Love watching your reaction beautiful
Peter Gabriel is a hero for world music ... he brings so many cultures together with his studio and recordlabel. And he also organizes a festival on many locations every year in a county in England with music from all over the world
I absolutely agree. But, don’t forget Paul Simon and Sting!
@@tessib.1043 Sure ... and Steward Copeland (The Police) ... but what Gabriel does is also working with musicians from Asia or f.i. Lapland ... It's a very broad scope. Still hope to be able to go to that festival
Someone else said it really well - he shone a light on music from around the world without exploiting it. A pioneer.
I would add The Talking Heads to the list. Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes from Paul Simon featuring Ladysmith Black Mamba is also a must hear.
I’m curious where the line is between honoring other musical cultures and appropriation. Many bands, usually British, introduced the sounds of former British colonies and brought them to mainstream awareness. Does Blondie’s use of rap constitute appropriation or absorption? Talking Heads? Peter Gabriel obviously. Paul Simon? Just curious what other people think.
Definitely one of the most joyous performances you will ever see. If you can't enjoy that, you're not alive.
Here’s another vote for “Don’t Give Up” from the same concert. Absolutely stunning and powerful. I hope you’ll listen to it.
I was going to suggest that. Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush was great, and the one I was most familiar with, but this version is from another world. A secret world, if you will. 😉
YES, Don’t give up from the same concert.
I'm already crying.
That is the angelic voice of Paula Cole!
AMEN
One of the best moments of Peter Gabriel solo career!
i love this lady. She is true music lover. Absolutely brilliant
Paula Cole
Paula Coles solo stuff is really good - you should check her out.
Best concert of my life in 1993 in Philadelphia. I cried. Thank god they recorded this tour so I can re-live it whenever I want.
Watch the whole of this concert . A joyous experience. You will have a smile on your face for hours afterwards.
DAYS !
WEEKS !
YEARS !
Absolutely. Incredible show.
😁 Saw him at Shea Stadium and we were on the 7 train platform still singing 'Biko'! 😒 We crazy like that in NY yo! Same thing happens when U2 plays and close with '40'! 😏 I sing on train platforms alot after shows at Shea, MSG & Yankee Stadium! 🤗 Shout Out 4, N/Q & 7 trains for the quick ride home after concerts! 🐰
@@cityhonors1 watched this show @Toulouse, France. Cupola lift didn't work. 15 mins delay ! 😀

Secret World
You have such a gentle soul. Keep up the great reviews.
A True Must Hear,, Peter Gabriel "So" Album Is Incredible From The Beginning To The Very End.
The So Tour was fantastic! I saw it at Rosemont Horizon, Chicago back in 1986.
Another interesting fact. So album was Eddie Van Halen's favorite album. Wolfgang and Valerie said he played it over and over and over.
One of my all time faves. It should have won Grammies, but as bad luck had it, he took a backseat to Paul Simon’s “Graceland” and Steve Winwood’s “Back In The High Life” for Album & Record of the Year. What an era for great music - U2’s Joshua Tree also came out shortly after in 87’.
One of my favorites indeed
And this concert - Secret World Live - is a full-on movie, that's where this track is from - the entire thing is must-see/listen. The sound engineering is incredible for a live performance, and Gabriel is at his finest.
Solsbury Hill he wrote said it is what you see when you die. It’s such a cool vibe.
Peter Gabriel is a beautiful human.
Arguably the best concert video ever. Everyone on that stage is a complete bad ass. Seek out the entire concert.
Stunned. I'm 61 and loved this song since it came out. How have I never seen this?
Same here. I’m almost 60.
61 as well still love it
You have got to get the dvd and watch the whole concert. Then see if you can get your jaw up off the floor after you watch. And if you have a good sound system, or headphones, even better.
The whole concert is on here. It will change your soul.
Loved it when it came out. Love it now. Check out the album So, a masterpiece. Saw the So tour, awesome.
That song was a big hit back in the 1980's. This tour was probably his best show. He put together a hell of a band for that tour.
“Shaking the Tree” is another great song from this concert 🎵🔥🎵
Brilliant!!!
Love that song!💕
@@barbaravance6774 👏🏼
Best song about Women's Rights - and it was written by a man :)
Yeah you really need to do Shaking the tree. Amazing song and amazing message
So... Peter Gabriel is probably my favorite artist. Welcome to his amazing musical world. His music will blow your mind. He's more than just a musician. He's an entertainer. He creates worlds. And no music "feels" like his.
Peter has always been a human rights activist Especially in Africa during apartheid
Between Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon a lot of African musicians got the exposure they deserved in the rest of the world.
You have a beautiful soul❤
When you first started in on this, and said you hoped to be entertained, I just smiled, knowingly...
My EXACT thoughts 🤣🤣🤣
Me too. Knowing in advance she will absolutely dig it, priceless ! 😁
Me too, I said oooh, you have no idea what's going to happen!
One minute in an tearing up. Those long held high notes by Paula are stellar. Thanks for the vibe
1:48 - Woman you have no idea of the experience your soul is facing. It's a journey. And it's magic.
British pensioner here....
I was unlucky never to have seen Peter perform with Genesis (though I have all their recordings) but was extremely fortunate to see him here in England a few years back. Phenomenal probably sums up his performance.
It's criminal that so much pure talent was given to just one individual. He is beyond exceptional !
I got to hear this song live..... Aren't you jealous !!!
You seem a lovely lady and I hope you'll go on to listen to many more songs by this genius. Enjoy.
Love from over the pond Paul
This is what it's all about, joy, togetherness. We are all one race, human!
Peter Gabriel everything he does is awesome
Give your self a treat and watch the whole concert, its magnificent and this was the closing number to engage the audience with and say goodbye by uniting them all, a completely joyous song.
I remember being there, 13-14 yrs old first Concert and feeling soo happy and warm and everyone was dancing and we sadly were higher up in the seats. But the universal feeling was sosos amazing.
Wow! How did this one slip past me? Amazing!
This whole concert is a vibe.
"Shaking The Tree" is one of my favorites.
Mine too!!!
“Shaking the Tree” from this concert is EPIC!
Saw this live in Perth Western Australia in 94, they were having so much fun it was infectious, loved it ever since.
Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon were both two great advocates of world music and it shows. I saw this tour in Chicago in '94 and afterwards I felt like i never needed to see another concert again. Gabriel is a consummate showman and an amazing talent. I wish I had a time machine to take everyone back just to see that show.
I want to go back to have my hubby with me, it was my first Concert. It was sososo beautiful!!!
First off, you're awesome, you project a beautiful spirit, so enough said about that, as it covers alot of ground. This sound, is at its core shines "thee" celebration of humanity and the core of living life shining like the sun..
Peter Gabriel is an amazing vocalist. He got that start with Genesis. But when I hear this song it takes me back to the 1980s because it was in the movie Say Anything with John Cusack. Peter uses African singers and in a lot of his songs you can hear the influence.
Now this what real music sounds like u hear every instrument.
No matter where you live in this world you won't travel far to find respect for Peter Gabriel
AWESOME
I LOVE your reaction to this masterpiece. In my opinion, one of the most beautiful songs of all time! I saw him perform it live on the ‘So’ tour with Yousou N’’Dour & his band. Probably the best encore I’ve seen. Peter Gabriel is a kind soul and incredible, unique musician.
Youssou N'Dour is usually the one singing with him but here it's Papa Wemba
Honestly for me this is a mystical experience...I feel it every time I watch it. Loved your reaction too...you really seem to get it.
One of the greatest love songs of all time! 😃
It's my Wedding Song for a reason ;)
I saw Gabriel on tour in Australia around 1993 with this incredible band and it was one of the musical highlights of my life. Simply great songs and performed with extraordinary exuberance and passion. Enduring thanks to all of them!
"In Your Eyes" is the Ultimate HAPPY TEARS Song!
Every time
You need to check out more from this particular concert it's really great at one point he's in a giant hamster wheel!!
He has a lot of good tunes. Don't Give Up, Talk to Me, Red Rain, Here Comes the Flood...
If any one should be labelled a Professor of music, it IS Peter Gabriel.
Tears come to my eyes I was there to hear this...a very happy time...thank you so much
Peter Gabriel is a musical rabbit hole you will not regret
Great song! Peter Gabriel... Dudes legit. When I pass on, I want his Solsbury Hill played at my going party.
When we all come together and enjoy the same music it is truly wonderful! Together we stand, divided we fall.
That was a special moment in time..that will be forever the test of time
I bought this DVD after seeing some clips on TH-cam. What I like the most is how much fun every one on stage is having. It must be the happiest concert I've ever seen, and this spirit shines through every piece. Wish wsh wish I could've been there!
Peter Gabriel has always been all about great music and a visual performance. He is a consummate perfectionist, and a torch bearer of “world” music. The entire Secret World concert is worth the watch!
This is about the WORLD not about one person, amazing song.
My 2 year old daughter LOVES this song (especially this specific live performance) - God Bless her Soul. This beautiful music transcends age, race, all the things that we think separate us as humans. Just a very special moment in time. Thank you for shining a light on this timeless performance.
The entire concert ( Secret world live ) can be found on TH-cam.
For me who suffers from severe depression and loneliness for decades, watching and listening to this with headphones on
is like a therapy session. Some rare feelgood time. Wonderful musicians and voices and of course, the legendary Peter Gabriel.
That takes us all back to our roots all humans back to the cradle
Absolutely my number one artist of my generation. You must go down this rabbit 🐇 hole!
This is one of my favorite performances of any song, by any artist, ever. Like a spiritual experience whenever I watch it.
AMEN
Excellent. In many dialects this will make people float
POOLA!... The joy and talent on this stage on this night is immeasurable. I've seen very few live performances where the energy to and from the audience is more joyous. There are a couple of moments where Paula Cole is beyond electrifying. I'm a TH-cam junkie of the first order and there are only a few things I like as much as I like this. I know almost nothing about Peter Gabriel or Paula Cole I just stumbled upon this and am very glad I did.
If you have a home theater with surround sound, get the Blu-ray or DVD. They have a 5.1 soundtrack.
Pure
I love, love, love this song, particularly this version.
Do yourself a favor and watch this whole concert video
Best concert ever, period.
Saw him in concert 3 times. In 1987 in Italy, when So came out and in 1993 twice during this tour, in Rome and in Vancouver. Life changing, sublime and other worldly. Interesting was the difference the audience made in the experience. Italians are huge Peter Gabriel devotees and much more passionate as well as participative in concerts. So grateful to have enjoyed this live!!!
I cry every time. Beautiful song.
This is THE love song IMO. Nothing covers what a man can feel like this.
What a fun, entertaining, subdued-power, vibing performance this was. Cool.
With everything going on it's easy to miss the instruments in this performance, keyboards, violin, drums and bass are outstanding.
Peter hasn't done much lately, I forgot what a genius he is.This is an awesome performance
Oh Yeah! The drummer, Manu Kachté is just incredible!!
The drumming in the concert is exquisite.
He usually selects drummers for a tour in the area he's playing and they ALL KILL! Did you know, PG was first a drummer and extremely shy as the front man of Genesis, hence the wild costumes, which drove Tony Banks nuts! 😂
@@hansmolders1066 Not sure about PG being an actual drummer, I saw Genesis live twice in the summer of 1970 which was prior to Trespass and PG would have a bass drum out front with him, which I always thought was the extent of his 'drumming'.
Peter Gabriel is the international artist who see live more times in my life. Every time Peter came to Mexico, I go to celebrate that joy and this fantastic music. Peter Gabriel for me is one of the top masters of fusion in music. Another two are Paul Simon and Sting.
I saw Paula Cole a while after this concert, when she was opening for Sarah McLachlan. She’s amazing. Her first album gets sadly overlooked - it was so badly promoted that she was eligible for (and won) the Best New Artist Grammy for her second album.
She’s mostly known for “I Don’t Want to Wait” and “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?” but they don’t have half the punch of her really emotional work, like “I Am So Ordinary” “Feelin’ Love” or “Hush Hush Hush.” (The last of which features Peter Gabriel as a guest vocalist.)
OMG. I'm so envious that you saw Paula. She never quite got the notoriety that her talent deserved.
@@brentwalker3300 My wife and I bought her CD there at that concert (Tower Theater, March 17 1995); I really wish I’d been able to get her autograph on it. (Funny thing; we saw another singer-songwriter who was just releasing her first album about a month before: Jewel.)
@@gerstelb Jewel, nice. I recall seeing her on a SF Bay Area morning news show in the late 90's I think. She just sat there with her guitar and knocked it our of the park. I really prefer her acoustic and "granola". She had such a pure voice.
He's a genious, all his song are out of time everybody on stage and in the croud are include, and this performance is the perfect example.
Always loved this amazingly positive, multi-continental vibe. PG is a beautiful soul. Great reaction. Cheers!
When I watch things like this. It give me a very tiny hope for humanity. Then I wake up in the morning & it's gone.
This live version of In Your Eyes is one of my favorite songs (true confession - I have a lot of favorite songs...) and you can't help but be in a better place after hearing and seeing this. The whole band is phenomenal, and Paula Cole absolutely KILLS! I'm so pleased you found this and loved it as much as you did on first listening. Thanks to TH-cam, for sending this my way today!
That was Paula Cole?! I had no idea she could sing like that!
@@CharleneRoozRE yes. And she sang the parts of Kate Bush in Don't Give Up. And Sinead O'Connor in Come Talk to Me,and Blood of Eden during the entire tour.
I stumbled on to this while bouncing around TH-cam last summer. I was watching with my oldest daughter and my grandkids were in bed. We watched. She cried. We watched again. She cried again. I gulped (big boys don't cry...big boys don't cry...). I've watched it 50 times since. Peter Gabriel is simply beyond. BTW, this tour was from 1994. Multi-ethnic so prescient and ahead of its time. Glad you caught up with us.
What a groove!!! Love my 70-80-90ties music( I am 70 years old). I think I play this music during my funeral !!! I love your reaction. You know your stuff !!!!
Amen to that
Peter Gabriel one of my all time favorites. I have listened to this guy since early 70-tees...
He is one of the most unique and bigly talented musicians I ever heard...he outgrew Genesis and made his own niche...btw, he always used African rhythms in his music...one of a kind for sure.
No he didn't. Addict love and many more. And he was one of unfortunately he passed away years ago. Miss you Peter
@@ejllamobeolan5025 Peter Gabriel is still alive...maybe you're thinking of Robert Palmer who sang Addicted to Love?
He did not outgrew genesis, he has his own unique vibe and musical talent, don’t compared musician m, is like you’re comparing water and wind different types of elements
@@kirk783 He did though and the rest the band members outgrew him. There is a distinct sound to Genesis with PG and without. Genesis after PG is more pop/rock, where PG solo is his own sound and to your comment, his own unique talent. PG continued to push his own boundaries where Genesis, imo, really didn't. They tended to explore the space they created. But that's the great thing about art of any kind. We're both correct.
@@TheDeecue do you know Phil collins
I don't know who that drummer is but he ties the whole song together. Wow!! I'm looking that guy up. Looking up on comments and didn't see anyone saying who he was? Let me know! He was unbelievable.
Manu katche, French drummer.
Yep. Manu Katche - Incredible drummer!
His name is manu katche and he played with many famous artists like sting as well. He’s feel is perfect.
Is anyone else besides me falling in love with this lady, Miss RogueRxyce?
Here too.
..Peter has for a long, long time had an "African vibe" in His music.. And I LOVE YOU for ""reacting" to this song! One of My favorite of all times.. ..and You are beautiful..
Peter Gabriel is something very special he understands the heart of everybody’s soul. He’s always been one of my favorite artists since the beginning. Love him
This whole live show of Peter Gabriel is one of the most epic ever. The whole show is a feast for eyes and ears.
Great performance, glad you got to enjoy this.
Paula Cole was just soooo good on this tour. To me this is his best show. Talk to Me, Red Rain, Shaking the Tree are musts. The talent on that stage is unsurpassed.
It's amazing what he came up with almost 40 years ago. I mentioned 40 years because this song passed me by about 30 years. Although I really enjoy listening to Peter Gabriel, I wasn't familiar with "in your eyes" for a long time.
And down the Peter Gabriel rabbit hole we go :-) He is one of my favorites. You MUST check out "Don't Give Up" from this same concert with Paula Cole.
This is your song! The light the heat I see in your eyes!! Your reactions buoy my soul, thanks!!! Pete is AWESOME!
Peter Gabriel is a true humanitarian, outspoken on justice and equal rights within the world. Love is music and always impressed by his live singing… sounds as full and amazing as on his recordings.
This is one of those tunes that I could say I could be stranded on an island with, and nothing else.
You gotta love Peter Gabriel, definitely a unique artist. A founding member of Genesis but he left for solo career in mid-seventies. His live shows are all about physical movement and World music.
Check out Solsbury Hill, cool Live DNA clip that goes back and forth in time over 30-40 years, interesting.
And as a member of Genesis he helped create some of the best prog rock in history, including its greatest song Supper's Ready.
Awesome ❤️
This whole concert was a vibe. Sink into the whole thing, and you'll be even more speechless!
This entire live show is Peter's best concert, ever!!. Saw it live then, and I'm very grateful for this concert video to enjoy it over and over!
He is a joy to watch with his band live.
