  • Pennsylvania Republicans are trying to revive the discredited independent state legislature theory to challenge pro-voter registration policies enacted by President Joe Biden and Governor Josh Shapiro. After their lawsuit was dismissed for lack of standing, GOP state lawmakers are now looking to the Supreme Court for help.

    • @dontuwumyowo
      @dontuwumyowo หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      No. The right to vote is never EXPLICITLY stated. It is only through several trials and tribulations of the SCOTUS in the past, and past congressional maneuvers that voting is even remotely commonplace. The first people to be allowed to vote were landowners of which the vast majority were in the ruling class. Several iterations later and we are still trying to secure the right to vote for everyone. Also non-citizens used to be able to vote as long as they owned land but I forget roughly when that expired

      My father's family has always been here in Cambria County. I've lived here 44 years.
      I'm shocked to hear this county was ever Blue. I've always seen it as very backward. Before the 2020 election the tRump signs and flags were everywhere. It was scary. So far, there aren't any signs up for anyone that I've seen.
      My father (passed) was in Warren County and they still have Glenn Thompson. My daughter lives in Lancaster County and she has Smucker.
      When I went to vote in the primary last month, I was so disappointed to see there were still local republicans running unopposed by democrats.
      🤞 I really hope Perry does lose. I can't keep up with everything and I haven't heard if the democrats put up a strong candidate against him.
      Plus we have to fight off McCormick again.

    We in Pennsylvania need to give Shapiro a democrat majority in our state legislation and congress. One of the problems in my district is that there was no demacrat running against the republican. How can I help turn our state Blue if there aren't enough democrats to vote for?

    Mark, Regardless of which political party is in power in a state legislature, how can one party legally disenfranchise any of its citizens from their Constitutional right to vote? Would that mean that Republican legislatures can legally pass laws to reject, say, all non-white voters at the polls? 😎

    If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy. The main benefit of controlling a modern bureaucratic state is not the power to persecute the innocent. It is the power to protect the guilty. -- David Frum, 2018
