- The defense rested its case in Donald Trump's hush money trial - and Trump himself chose not to take the stand in his own defense, despite previously saying he wanted to testify. The defense’s key witness, Robert Costello, returned to the stand for a cross-examination from the prosecution that both corroborated Michael Cohen’s testimony and showed the mob-like tactics between Trump and his employees during the height of the Stormy Daniels controversy.

He should. He wont. Costello said he was Cohen's attorney. But he was clearly not acting in "his clients" best interests by his own emails. Surely he will now get sanctioned and then say at his hearing he was NOT Cohen's attorney. I'm glad Cohen's wife and family stood by him during this period.
And that recording he made. I moved into an office that had been occupied by a succession of attorneys. There were recordings, old files and transcripts, medical records, a whole box of sealed juvenile records, correspondence from other firms, receipts from private investigators, one I think the DA used too, all going back decades - all that confidential stuff. The cherry on top? A letter from Timothy McVeigh (crazy deluded nutter) from prison. Cancelled checks from a divorce case that clearly showed some shadiness connected with the business that years later was shut down (no surprise). They could have been inflating the cost of the vehicles they bought, with the line of credit from the bank, and selling for little or no profit to show. That reminds me of someone...

If I were the prosecution, I’d get a transcript of the defense’s opening statement (I typically do this in every case but definitely I would here) and use it to remind the jury of every promise the defense made about what they claimed they’d prove and then one by one I’d remind them of the utter failure to do any of it. Aside from attacking Cohen’s credibility, the defense presented no evidence whatsoever to challenge or refute any of the testimony by all the other witnesses or any of the documentary evidence. This was one of the worst defenses I’ve ever seen. Theres no reasonable alternative explanation for why Cohen would have paid Daniels, no challenge to Pecker’s and Hick’s testimony, and no evidence to explain the documents, including the checks,all signed by Trump. Even calling Cohen a liar is laughable given he was Trump’s guy and Costello hurt more than helped the defense and to me, he ended up demonstrating that the whole inner circle was corrupt. This is a slam dunk conviction case.
Court Rule #1 Do not Mean Mug the judge.

What was contemptuous was a judge sustaining every objection made by the prosecution when the defense hadn’t even finished the question. The judge did not allow the witness to testify. He is a disgrace.
