    Thank you Abbey! Do you have an updated routine/favorite products once out of the shower? I have a hard time knowing how much heat protectant to apply without it getting kind of greasy or losing volume.

      I would love this too!! Heat protection is one area I still feel a little lost. Like how much to apply, what type of protection is best for my hair type, when do I need to reapply, what's better on wet hair vs dry hair etc. Great ask!!! 😊

      I agree I struggle with heat protection. If I put it.on when I blow dry do I need more when I hear style with an iron. Or.can I heat style.dirty hair? Etc

    I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for recommending k18. I took my hair extensions out just before Christmas and my hair was ruined 😭 I’ve used k18 4 times and the change is phenomenal and more than I’ve ever had with olaplex or any other mask. your videos have been a life saver for me to try and get my hair strength back. Thank you ❤️

    Yes I love cones! I clarify often because my hair is fine and kinda low porosity so I’m prone to build up so I’ll rotate a sulphates in on a regular bases so I’m not worried about the silicone building up on my hair. My hair is much better now than the years back when I didn’t use silicones 🤷🏽‍♀️

    It seems like an obvious topic, but I'm glad you covered it. Similar to skincare vs makeup, I'm learning proper routine care of my hair will go a longer way than covering up issues with styling product.

    I was always leaving deep conditioner on for about an hour but I heard that it’s not any more beneficial than say 5-10 minutes so I started conditioning in the tub or shower and just leaving on for about 5 minutes and my hair is just as soft, smooth and frizz free. I was also able to start using a regular conditioner and not a deep conditioner every single time. I think my Moroccanoil smoothing lotion and the oils I’ve been using pre wash has really healed the previous damage I had from bleach. Hallelujah! I love silicones and never listened to the advice to avoid it. My hair is fine, thin and wavy but prone to frizz and silicones are essential.

    I am a stylist. While I am not completely silicone free for me, silicones don't work as well as silicone free does. My hair is far better without them. I limit silicones but I do use them occasionally. They're not the evil that people make them out to be though.

    Old trick if you don't have an extra turban or shower cap is to use saran wrap/plastic wrap/cling wrap. Takes a bit of finagling but it will hold in the heat. A roll lasts me a long time because I have substituted other products for most uses but it is still handy for a couple things like this.

    Thanks Abbey! I have two questions :)
    1. Your most recent wash day routine video has you using both a hair mask and a conditioner…I haven’t seen the “why” in any of your videos (was hoping this was the one!) - thoughts on when we should do this? If I’m masking I never condition :S
    2. I bought K18! But haven’t used it yet :( your K18 video says not to use with conditioner but I remember a later video I can’t find said it’s ok to now…so just wondering how? K18 first, then condition?

    Just a little comment about silicones: silicones are good as you said, but it has to be water-soluble silicone. Many drugstore shampoos/conditioners contains silicones that are insoluble in water so they just wrap your hair and nothing can go inside your hair, so by the time it makes your hair damaged and you can put whatever you want on your hair, nothing will help because nothing will penetrate inside your hair. It may looks shinier first but it’s just silicones on top of damages hairs. And combing your hair in the shower with conditioner on is also good for even application, I always do that so I have my conditioner everywhere 😊

    • @michaelhalbritter8692
      @michaelhalbritter8692 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not so easy to find conditioner with water-soluble silicones. I find that most conditioners, from drugstore to high-end, mostly contain dimethicone which is very much not water-soluble.

    • @thespraybottle7619
      @thespraybottle7619 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hair oils are also water insoluble and leave a film on the hair. In fact sebum is also water insoluble. Your shampoo should do a nice job at getting rid of water insoluble chemicals if you’re not using a gentle cleanser. Abbey goes into this a little more in a few of her videos; most notable being her one about silicones.

    I feel like you're the only hair influencer who talks positively about silicones! I personally love silicones but I feel like there's a lot of reasoning behind why silicones could be problematic. The main reason being that it forms a protective layer on the hair but doesn't actually condition the hair. So if your hair is dry, silicones will lock in the dryness. I would love to see a video devoted to silicones and debunking myths or addressing claims about them!

      I apply most products toward the back of my hair, work it through then work the residue into the shorter layers. If you mistakenly get the scalp, take a smidge of shampoo, emulsify, work that into the scalp before rinsing the conditioner. That has worked for me over the years.

      You probably dont need conditioner on your bangs. Your natural hair oils should be enough

    Hey I'm new to it Chanel and I had really long hair and cut it off about 8mths ago I was having greasy roots and dry ends and did really need a major trim so I was ok with it but I wanted to start doing better with my hair and have healthy hair but now I can't go more than 2 days without washing I was suggested a moisture green tea tree shampoo and conditioner by Paul Mitchel but still getting breakage esp at my crown and didn't have that problem before now. I am not sure if it's making my fine hair to soft if that makes sense. Please please help

    I'm triggered. 😳 You NEVER mentioned sulfate free for conditioner. This is ESSENTIAL, for color treated hair.

      Sulfates are not generally used in conditioners. Silicones can really help, especially if your hair is Thick, Coarse, Curly or Color -Treated.

    Hi Abbey, thanks for mentioning that silicones are not the work of the devil 😂😂 but did you ever hear that its not possible to color the hair once there is build up from the silicones? because that is a big rumor that is passed around and i never know whether to believe it.

    I am shocked that you promote silicones. It's proven that it builds up on your hair and don't nurishing it - it's just a shell but the hair doesn't get better under it.
