That was it, and I decided to do a voice over instead of just showing title cards or subtitles.

This is a Circle Tool from WindFire Designs. Normally used for making kites, but I see a lot of other crafters using it for leather. Check out their site here!: windfiredesigns.com
same problem I have with modern (possibly just an American thing) documentaries. I'm thinking it's something they learn in class. they say it's to grab your attention or they for some reason think it makes the video look higher quality because it's what they do in the movie theaters.
