Fun (heartbreaking) fact: Whenever you see Adora sleeping you can see that she is some degree of curled up, knees close to her chest, that is because Catra has slept at her feet since they were kids so her body naturally shifts to make room for her even though she's gone.
Augh, that conversation between Catra and Shadow Weaver just perfectly encapsulates their entire relationship dynamic. SW: acts shitty to Catra Catra: yells at her for acting shitty/retaliates in some other way SW: is in pain/a bad situation in some way or another Catra: immediately reaches out to her in concern SW: pushes her away
Shadow Weaver, Adora, and Catra slot perfectly into the archetypical roles of abusive parent, golden child, and scapegoat by design. The golden child gets all the praise, and can do no wrong, and the scapegoat gets all the blame, and can do no right. Both Catra and Adora are deeply fucked up in ways that we are only beginning to see. Also, the first time you said kick, it sounded very much like kink to me.

I love this episode because of how it explains everything so well. Adora: "Besides, everyone likes me more as Shera" hits so hard. She literally feels that she's not good enough as herself, that nobody will trust her or believe in her unless she's the legendary person the others believe will save them. Catra: The way she argues with Shadowweaver but then reaches out with a concerned look, only to be shoved away from her. Catra: Episode 1 sleeping at the foot of Adora's bed. Adora: Episode 4 sleeping at the foot of Glimmer's bed. Bow: Super supportive to an unhealthy degree but catches on and still proceeds to be supportive in a healthier manner. Glimmer: Completely oblivious to the idea that Adora is going to be uncomfortable in something as simple as a new bedroom. Learns and throws Adora a slumber party to help her feel more at home in her new surroundings. I can never get over how much I love the contrasting of the lives we see between Adora and Catra and how their different paths effect them. Also, with your love of Shera's form I really can't wait for you to meet two other specific characters to see your reactions to them. :P
I think we should warn you that Shadoweaver is actually Perfuma's evil twin. They both enjoy shooting vines (shadows or plants) at their enemies. This creates an epic battle at the mid-season 2 finale.
Some more Original 1980's Series character lore: Princess Perfuma was a _very_ minor character in the original series. She was ditzy, cute, and completely unafraid of Hordak and the Horde. Her powers could nullify and transform Dark Energy and fire in to cascades of flowers. When she was captured and held prisoner by Hordak, she spent her time walking around and decorating the Fright Zone with flowers everywhere, eventually pissing off Hordak so much that when She-Ra arrived to rescue her, he _literally_ begged her to take her back. Perfuma also had a crush on Bow. She only appeared in a single episode, and was only a cameo in two others (one of them being the Christmas special, she was _that_ minor a character).
Ah, well spotted that Shadow Weaver didn't show Catra the kick. Turns out it was very intentional, because she didn't want Catra to be seduced to the other side.
It's both hilarious and adorable watching you thirst for She-Ra, while at the same time heavily shipping Adora and Catra. Also, Adora accepting herself for herself and not just for She-Ra, no matter what others think, is a really great lesson, and this was a great way for her to learn it. And yeah, Glimmer and Bow are such great, supportive friends.

i will say it over and over until i turn blue in the face: Shadow Weaver IS A MOTHER to Catra and Adora. She's toxic and horrible at it, but that doesn't mean she doesn't see them as hers- especially Adora. As someone with personal experience, toxic parents care in their own twisted ways and generally don't see what they've done as wrong or, in more aware cases, they feel the bad things they did were ultimately for the child's benefit. Catra and Adora show the different sides of what happens to a kid with abuse; Catra becomes isolated and defiant, while Adora becomes a perfectionist desperate to please.
It’s more like Catra sees SW as a mother figure, and SW wants nothing to do w/ her besides pretending to care enough to keep Adora content. She even says as such to Catra. The abuse you describe is like the golden child, scapegoat dynamic

2:38 this scene raises a very good question, why does she never change out of that Horde uniform? What if there's a skirmish and she's attacked by a rebel soldier before she has the chance to transform, absolutely nothing because these so called rebels don't have any foot soldiers. And side note, why are they even called rebels. The Horde didn't control the entire planet the alliance is just trying to take back the parts the do control, if anything they're a resistance
9:29 So you're asking if Shadow Weaver actually cares, or did she just sense on some level that Adora's a potential doorway to greater power? I've never been able to figure that out for myself. She's a difficult character to read.
This show is so good at certain tropes. Like another I show I know, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. They have some great writers and crew at Dreamworks.
I love how Perfuma goes from peace loving hippy to Berserk mode in record speed. Also, that there is a member of the Horde who, upon seeing all of their comrades getting absolutely wailed on reacts with 'wow, this is going to do numbers on HordeTikTok Also Also: Best character incoming next episode. You are not prepared.
6:38 Ah Catra's (other) Catchphrase "Adora left me" I grew so tired of it Adora said you could come stop saying she abandoned you, she moved away and you stayed in the abusive household.
3:31 "80 BPM, I need to calm down - that's high for me." Meanwhile I'm over here just vibing at 95-105 BPM while sitting down, & 110+ if I get up/walk around at all (my HR will only drop below 85 BPM if I'm asleep 😅)
If you're getting the feels this early on, I cant wait for the later seasons. After watching the ep[isode: "So how's Moscu liking She-Ra?" "She getting a kick out of it."
It's really bizarre to realise that Shadow Weaver changes sides before many of the other characters who end the series working for a different faction than the one they started with.
It's pretty ridiculous that this is the de-facto worst episode of the show according to most people, just because there are seriously no bad episodes of She-Ra. The quality level is insane and only gets better.
I can't even imagine how it must feel for Adora. Growing up in a military barracks, sharing a living space with a ton of other people. Now she has a room all for herself, and is much bigger than the shared space she had before. That'd definitely take some adjustment. Also the portrayal of parental abuse between Catra and Shadoweaver hits really hard. Man, watching a reaction of this series and reading comments from others will definitely give me even more of an appreciation for this show. I already enjoy it quite a lot, and I get a lot of the themes, but it's always good to see other people talk about them as well. Some of the comments put my thoughts into words better than I've been able to.
Fun fact: though it never comes up in the show, Perfuma was confirmed to have been created as a trans woman, according to her character designer, Ray Geiger, another trans woman. ND Stevenson, the show runner, didn’t know about it when casting the character (Perfuma has cis actress), but retroactively supports this. Despite the fact that this was literal Word of God (out-of-show confirmation of something by the creators), some people think that trans Perfuma is a headcanon, when in fact, the fact that the creators agreed to it in an out-of-show capacity, makes Perfuma being trans canon, and cis Perfuma the headcanon. While Perfuma is never confirmed as trans in the show, she’s never confirmed as cis, either, which makes any belief about her gender a headcanon, however, Word of God dictates that she’s trans, meaning that, lacking any confirmation to the contrary in the show itself, her being trans has been canonised. If you don’t like how canon works, it sucks to be you, I guess.
I very much agree with you, especially since there is nothing contradicting it in the show. If there were, then her being trans truly would be nothing more than headcanon. I might be slightly biased, though, since I feel there aren't enough good characters out there who aren't cis het. Just one of many reasons I love this show!
People who say that trans Perfuma is a headcanon due to the fact that her VA is cis have to understand that the show runner, and those responsible for casting her VA, don’t have final say in the character, as determined by the point that said character is cast. The character’s designer has as much, if not more say over the character, as they are, by nature, their creator. While you can say that her VA is cis, you can also say that her design was intentionally made to have a more “masculine” build than the typical cis woman, at which point both trans Perfuma and cis Perfuma are possible (I know that having a more stereotypically “masculine” build doesn’t immediately mean a woman is trans, and not all trans woman have a stereotypically “masculine” build, but given that Perfuma was designed as a trans woman, I believe the build was intentional). When you combine that with the fact that she was confirmed trans by the creators, she now has more support to her being trans then cis. Sorry if I seem obsessive with this, I just think that people are choosing to adopt cis as a character’s default, when they honestly shouldn’t, especially not for one that was made with the intention of being trans.
@@brinnshea, while I appreciate the fact that you agree with me, in the politest way possible, your agreement doesn’t matter; any opinions on the subject don’t matter. Perfuma is simply trans, whether or not you agree with it (this isn’t saying that I’m mad at you for agreeing, just that there’s nothing to have an opinion about; it’s just a fact).
@@Ariovrak Very true. I was only expressing that it's great to have trans characters like Perfuma, and that we need more such characters in popular media. Nothing in the show points to her being any particular gender, so the word of the characters creators is canon.
Eh, I generally don't consider such statements to be canon unless the creator specifically states that it is canon, which Nate has not actually done. What Nate did was like a tweet that called Perfuma a trans lesbian. The reason why I do not consider that as sufficient to be considered 100% canon is because Nate Stevenson tweets a LOT of things about She-Ra, including lots of funny showerthoughts that are not actually meant to be taken as canon. For example, Nate joked that Catra's full name is 'Catra Meowmeow Applesauce'. Nate also joked that Catra has 9 lives and actually dies 9 times during the course of the show. Some people take these tweets as canon as well, even though they are either contradicted by Stevenson (Nate has also said Etherians don't have surnames at all) or by the show itself (the list of Catra's deaths includes things that make no sense). In fact, I am pretty sure that Stevenson outright said during a livestream that their tweets about the show should not be taken as canon. That doesn't mean I do not support the idea of Perfuma being trans, in fact I can totally see it, and there is nothing that contradicts it. I just don't think it is outright canon. It would've been cool if they'd included it in the show itself. Like you yourself said, Perfuma is never stated to be cis either.
dramatis personae (to date): Adora - former Horde soldier now avatar of She-Ra, the Princess of Power Catra - Adora's (kind of) adopted sister & fellow Horde soldier. Promoted to Force Captain after Adora's defection Shadow Weaver - 2nd in command of the Horde. Adopted mother/parental figure to Adora, Catra & the rest of their group Lonnie - a cadet in the Horde Kyle - a cadet in the Horde Lord Hordak - leader of The Horde Queen Angella - ruler of Brightmoon, leader of the rebellion against The Horde Princess Glimmer - Angella's daughter, a commander in the rebellion army Bow - a rebellion fighter & Glimmer's best friend Spinarella & Nettossa - Princesses of the rebellion, stationed at Brightmoon Princess Perfuma - ruler of Plumeria, a powerful chloromancer Madame Razz - an eccentric old witch (?) that lives in the Whispering Wood Mara - possibly the previous avatar of She-Ra, appears to have known Madame Razz Light Hope - holographic AI construct housed in a First Ones temple that seems related to the power of She-Ra Other notable terms: Etheria - the planet they are on The First Ones - the first settlers of Etheria, vanished 1000 years ago without explanation The Horde - an army under the command of Lord Hordak. They are attempting to conquer Etheria for unknown reasons.
In the end Shadow weaver ends up betraying Hordak and taking over the Horde via coup. A disgraced Hordak then has to team up with Adora to take her down, and together they learn the secret of Adora’s origins: she was created by Shadow Weaver as a secret clone super soldier.
Loving these reactions! 6:45 I love, but also think it's heartbreaking, that Catra's concerned about Shadow Weaver. Abusive or not, SW's the only "mother figure" in her life, and I hate even saying that because SW is SO TERRIBLE!
Queen Angella stole Shadow Weaver's man. Shadow Weaver is basically Maleficent from the live action film, attacking the kingdom of the woman (Angella) who took her man and wants to raise their daughter (Glimmer) as her own. Shadow Weaver is going to freakout when she finds out Angella has her favorite daughter, Adora. But at least Catra no longer has to compete for her mother's love, that's Glimmer's problem now.
When this show was announced, there were a bunch of CHUDs complaining that the new She-Ra wasn't sexy anymore. Not entirely sure why that's a requirement for a kids' show, but honestly, it's great watching you prove them wrong. 😆

@Mycatistypingthis Yep. Masters of the Universe was primarily a toy line, and not only did they want the figures to be compatible with each others vehicles and accessories, they also found ways to reuse as many parts as possible.
Oh, Shadoweaver is definitely evil, like 100%, but evil people can still have feelings, still have relationships. And although her relationship with Adora and Catra is absolutely toxic, she’s still a mother figure, and that’s why the interactions between the three of them are so complicated, they’re broken and fucked up, but they’re still family.

I mean, I can see the resemblance.
Saying this because of the thumbnail
Shadow Weaver probably has one of my favorite character designs ever!!
She got a real kick out of that kick
2:38 this scene raises a very good question, why does she never change out of that Horde uniform? What if there's a skirmish and she's attacked by a rebel soldier before she has the chance to transform, absolutely nothing because these so called rebels don't have any foot soldiers. And side note, why are they even called rebels. The Horde didn't control the entire planet the alliance is just trying to take back the parts the do control, if anything they're a resistance
This is already my favorite series of reactions to this show. Especially the shipping, the thirsting and the little details you notice.
Can't wait for the next episode where you get to meet the mighty Sea Hawk, the man Adora and Catra end up love rivals for.
If he could just get over his pyromaniac tendencies…
21:08 Love The Best Friend Squad! 😆
4:02 They're Married And Adorable. 😍😍
Yeah Spinnerella and Netosssa are relationship goals
9:29 So you're asking if Shadow Weaver actually cares, or did she just sense on some level that Adora's a potential doorway to greater power? I've never been able to figure that out for myself. She's a difficult character to read.
I think you'll find that perfuma is more like willow than you'd might expect
She-Ra's twin brother is Prince Adam, Master of The Universe and when he has the sword he becomes He-Man. Their birth mother is from Earth.
as a fellow bisexual woman, i am here to confirm that all bisexuals do in fact like tall women. it's in the contract
This show is so good at certain tropes. Like another I show I know, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. They have some great writers and crew at Dreamworks.
I love how Perfuma goes from peace loving hippy to Berserk mode in record speed.
Also, that there is a member of the Horde who, upon seeing all of their comrades getting absolutely wailed on reacts with 'wow, this is going to do numbers on HordeTikTok
Also Also: Best character incoming next episode. You are not prepared.
6:38 Ah Catra's (other) Catchphrase "Adora left me" I grew so tired of it Adora said you could come stop saying she abandoned you, she moved away and you stayed in the abusive household.
Underneath the mask, Shadow Weaver is a Poodle lady, that's why she doesn't like Catra
3:31 "80 BPM, I need to calm down - that's high for me." Meanwhile I'm over here just vibing at 95-105 BPM while sitting down, & 110+ if I get up/walk around at all (my HR will only drop below 85 BPM if I'm asleep 😅)
Hey everyone is different!!! I've seen mine get as low as 62 before but theaverage resting heart rate for me is 69 which makes me smirk HAHHAHA
@@WeeLassReacts Nice 😏😏 🤣🤣
if i had a penny for every supporting female character that had plant powers that ended up being one of the series' powerhouses I'd have two
Perfuma is going to make a great addition to this ADVENTURE
Adventure!!!
ADVENTURE!!
ADVENTSHAH
I'm just waiting for you to meet Scorpia, you're definitely gonna love her soooo much
It's literally so adorable to see you react to how athletic Adora is. Lol. Honestly, same. 😅
Break out the “party kale”.
I guess the party starts at 4:20
If you're getting the feels this early on, I cant wait for the later seasons.
After watching the ep[isode:
"So how's Moscu liking She-Ra?"
"She getting a kick out of it."
6:50 Emperor Hordak.
It's really bizarre to realise that Shadow Weaver changes sides before many of the other characters who end the series working for a different faction than the one they started with.
She’s basically been an Adora simp since day one
I maintain that Shawdow Weaver has always been on the same side all along: her own. Political affiliations are, to her, a trifling matter.
"Where's she pull the sword from? Her arse?" Lmao the way it sounded like a serious question sent me 🤣🤣
Naw, it's the interdimensional space pocket.
10:00 Lets just say I find Shadowweaver to be a fascinating character.
I had such a headache.. then this vid popped up. Feelin fine now! Thanks Mosco! So glad yer doing what you do. ❤❤❤
I hope your head feels better soon
@@WeeLassReacts it was instant relief, Mosco!
I’m excited for her to meet the scorpion. Y’all know who I mean.
GET OVER HERE!!!
@@MacTechG4 FRIENDSHIP! FRIENDSHIP?!
Swiftscale the Rainbow Lizard has his own spin off show.
I am SO glad that someone new is reacting to this show and it’s YOU! It’s really good to see you getting into one of my favorite shows ever, I love it
Bo: I’m not sure what they do…
The answer is clearly “each other”.🌈👍
IM SO HAPPY TO SEE ANOTHER SHE RA REACTION SERIES! I'll be here for each episode!
She will be so shocked when that lizard returns in the final battle to defeat Hordak
By the flower power of Grayskull
dramatis personae (to date):
Adora - former Horde soldier now avatar of She-Ra, the Princess of Power
Catra - Adora's (kind of) adopted sister & fellow Horde soldier. Promoted to Force Captain after Adora's defection
Shadow Weaver - 2nd in command of the Horde. Adopted mother/parental figure to Adora, Catra & the rest of their group
Lonnie - a cadet in the Horde
Kyle - a cadet in the Horde
Lord Hordak - leader of The Horde
Queen Angella - ruler of Brightmoon, leader of the rebellion against The Horde
Princess Glimmer - Angella's daughter, a commander in the rebellion army
Bow - a rebellion fighter & Glimmer's best friend
Spinarella & Nettossa - Princesses of the rebellion, stationed at Brightmoon
Princess Perfuma - ruler of Plumeria, a powerful chloromancer
Madame Razz - an eccentric old witch (?) that lives in the Whispering Wood
Mara - possibly the previous avatar of She-Ra, appears to have known Madame Razz
Light Hope - holographic AI construct housed in a First Ones temple that seems related to the power of She-Ra
Other notable terms:
Etheria - the planet they are on
The First Ones - the first settlers of Etheria, vanished 1000 years ago without explanation
The Horde - an army under the command of Lord Hordak.
I love how much you're enjoying this already. It's gonna be so fun watching you react to this series. There's so much great stuff to come.
My favourite episode was definitely the one where Hordak leaves the Horde and marries Glimmer's mom. Such a good emotional payoff.
It's funny watching Wee Lass thirst after She-Ra when this design was to prevent thirst trapping.
GAHHH I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REST OF THE SERIES :D (also fun fact: perfuma is a trans girl!)
as of now that's just a head canon
Loving these reactions!
6:45
I love, but also think it's heartbreaking, that Catra's concerned about Shadow Weaver. Abusive or not, SW's the only "mother figure" in her life, and I hate even saying that because SW is SO TERRIBLE!
I'm so excited, the next two episodes introduce my two favourite characters. I was so happy when they got together in season 5.
16:03 i only just now realized you meant Owl House Willow and not Buffy Willow
8:51 Yes They Do. Perfuma Needs To Think More Realistic.
Methinks that Wee Lass is gonna need a wee fan to help cool down some of that heartbeat-raising thirst!
I'm loving this reactions!!! Enjoy this journey. It's a roller coaster!!!
the next couple episodes are very “meet the team” but it gets better from there
"How about you shut you're fucking mouth!?" Yes thank you i also felt that way
When this show was announced, there were a bunch of CHUDs complaining that the new She-Ra wasn't sexy anymore. Not entirely sure why that's a requirement for a kids' show, but honestly, it's great watching you prove them wrong. 😆
Spoilers:

Her final she ra design is significantly more attractive than the old design as well, so they’re just losers who think the only way to make someone look good is exposed boobs
I think the original designs were all basically the same model, because that's easier to produce for merch companies. The new designs are so much better.
@Mycatistypingthis Yep. Masters of the Universe was primarily a toy line, and not only did they want the figures to be compatible with each others vehicles and accessories, they also found ways to reuse as many parts as possible.
The people just hitting them with leaves in the background😂
Oh, Shadoweaver is definitely evil, like 100%, but evil people can still have feelings, still have relationships. And although her relationship with Adora and Catra is absolutely toxic, she’s still a mother figure, and that’s why the interactions between the three of them are so complicated, they’re broken and fucked up, but they’re still family.
1:41 Nope. It's Gonna Take Adora To Get Used To This.
For a show you weren't sure about or even wanted to avoid, you've taken to it more than any of the others. You've also found a replacement or two to simp on. I still say give Xena Warrior Princess a try. If you love this, I think that show might be up your alley.
I just realized, a line from this episode comes back in a later episode! I can't believe I missed it.
