"Ai" means love. In the lyrics, "Ai" is written in katakana, which is a secondary alphabet used in Japanese primarily for foreign/loan words. It's akin to using italics in English. Sometimes it's just for emphasis, but Miku (the primary lyricist for Band-Maid) is a big fan of word play, so you can imagine that she means to use a double, or triple meaning, as it's a homophone with "I" or "eye", so it might be that when she says she's found an "I", it could be about her sense of self, or pride, or something along those lines, that caused them to separate. It could also be that she's talking about finding an "eye", like developing an awareness, being able to see things she couldn't before. There are other mentions of eyes in the song. Right before the first time "Ai" is in the lyrics, she says "Yureru hitomi", which is like quivering eyes, like when you're so emotional that your eyes can't settle, and there's a line about closing her eyes. I generally recommend people just enjoy their music, and not bother trying to dissect the lyrics until they're prepared to do a really deep dive, which may involve learning Japanese.
I remember the first time I saw Band-Maid when Miku started singing this the whole crowd kind of took a deep breath waiting for the high note. When she hit it everyone gave her a big ovation.
Such an incredible, layered, constantly evolving song, with so much to unpack. One of my favourite moments is the blink-and-you'll-miss-it twiddly bit at 3:33 in the studio version, a tiny glimpse of the kind of out-there proggy madness they're capable of, but only deploy in small doses (or sometimes in large doses, or even all the time, but woven into their songs in ways that sound deceptively straightforward). I absolutely love the full-band version, but there's something truly magical about the acoustic. The way Miku glides into that soft high note... sublime.

I like to think she used the Romaji "AI" to say love in Japanese and "I" in English. She does this in the Cluppo song With You with the lyric sang in English "I will not lose" but can also mean "Love will not lose". I like the fact she plays with the languages to add meaning to the lyrics the deeper you dig in.
Sayonakidori means a small bird that sings in the night, and refers to the beautiful song of the nightingale. Miku wrote this lyric from Romeo and Juliet. There is a scene where the skylark starts singing at dawn, and the two of them talk about how the song is a nightingale and how dawn has not yet come. It is my only regret in this perfect acoustic version that we don't get a proper shot of Akane singing. From now on got me hooked fornreal after vibing on an instrumental only playlist for a month. I had no idea they had vocals for a bit 😅 Theres a bluray extra where they are in a white room just shredding no god, unleash, dice, domination etc But it was 100% the tension build and drop of from now on that got me as well as the acoustic puzzle. Just 3/5 of BAND-MAID is more talented, more powerful than most bands to have ever existed. That's a pretty crazy realization, eh. 😁 'Puzzle' was the first BAND-MAID song I stumbled across. That was quickly followed by 'Moratorium' and then ''Play'. All of them live. Blew the top of my head right off. I have never been the same since. They are still my favorite band. Also, green. 😉
I can’t remember which song was my first listen, but I think it was either Warning, or Dice. And I was hooked after those two songs. I was lucky to see them just 4 months later live in concert, and I’d already listened to every track on every album multiple times. It was such a joy to see them so quickly after discovering them!
Early in Band Maid’s career Miku was the lead singer, but after a few shows she decided she didn’t have the power to do justice to the type of hard rockin’ Maid music she envisioned in her head. She then did something that most musicians don’t have the humility for, she decided to step aside and seek another vocalist. This had to be a scary if undeniably selfless act since at the time she hadn’t learned to play guitar yet. With assistance from their label and management they found Saki. I think they made the right choice, but I still love hearing Miku sing. Kanami hints that Miku pestered her until she conceded and taught her to play guitar. Thank you checking this song out.
Blue or Black. The song that nailed my heart to BAND-MAId was “alone”, BAND-MAID’s first ever song that they composed by themselves, arranged by themselves, lyrics written by Miku, AND was allowed by the management and record label to be released.
Green-Onset. My first song was Thrill. TH-cam kept recommending this "BAND_MAID" group's song. I was like, "Maids, Really? Go home, TH-cam, you're drunk!" TH-cam insisted, and I eventually decided they looked cute; what the hell. OMG, it was not what I expected! I checked out a few of their songs and moved on. A few months later, TH-cam suggested a video that had just been uploaded, "onset." I remembered that I liked their stuff, so I watched it. I immediately told everyone I knew about the song. Have been a Madiac ever since.
Dark Blue and Thrill was my introduction to Band-Maid. This entire 2021 Xmas Acoustic concert was exceptional. 14 songs in total and very creative in how they arranged the songs and performed it with the various combinations of the band members. Miku is a genius, 'nough said. Singing is great and now an accomplished guitarist since Kanami taught her how since 2014. She is the heart of this band. Sayonakidori=Nightingale and referes to Romeo and Juliet. She even managed to get some vibrato on the end of that high note. The spoken section is a quote from Shakespeare- more genius by Miku. The live acoustic set consists of 14 songs and release as a CD only- no video in spite of calls from many fans. Great reaction- Thanks (UK)
Yep. This was a 14 song set on XMas Day 2021 that was broadcast during Covid. And yes, there is a CD, but it was a limited pressing and only offered to fan club members.

This one was back on the website throughout the year in 2024 (still only for fan club), but maybe it won't show up again now that the March 20th acoustic CD is a thing (also fan club exclusive). Finally got mine today. Took longer cause I had it go through Tenso and was waiting on another package to get to them so I could consolidate them together.
I hope you are having a great day. In the all-electric version of this song, Miku was using a belting voice for the high notes since her falsetto is pretty quiet. She used falsetto for the acoustic version to hit the high notes easier. Akane also switched to bound sticks for this acoustic performance to lower the sheer volume of her drums, because she normally hits really hard. Another difference is that Misa was wearing shoes for this concert, and Misa didn't drink at all since she knew she was going to have to sing harmonies on some of the songs. All five members of the band can sing, but it is really rare for anybody except Miku or Saiki to sing.
When Sayonakidori first came out (Unseen World) Miku struggled to hit those high notes, but after working on her solo Cluppo projects (Without You) she has no problem hitting those notes now. Miku is a constant inspiration as she accomplishes every goal she sets her mind toward.
When we bought this house my wife and I agreed she could take the downstairs office and do what she wants, and I can take one of the spare rooms upstairs and do what I want. I clearly made the best decision 😂😂🥃
Dark red, like maroon. Probably like most fans, my first introduction to Band-Maid was “Thrill” but the song that got me hooked was “Dice”. It still remains one of my favorites. Dice, as a song, kinda encapsulates everything that Band-Maid is: thundering drums and melodic bass, progressive verses paired with catchy, almost pop-like choruses, short blistering solos that don’t overstay their welcome, and the interplay between the two vocalists. Dice is one of those songs where people hear it and go “okay, now I understand the band”.
This acoustic show was our Christmas present during covid. Best present ever - an hour and ten minutes. Released to stream on Christmas day. Every song was magical.
Sayonakidori translates as Nightingale but, Japanese being a many layered language, it breaks down to SA (small), YO (night) NAKI (singing) DORI (bird). For the 14 song acoustic set that they streamed on xmas day 2021, the band all chose clothes that fitted the colour scheme of Santa Red and Reindeer Beige. 7:50 yes, it's a backing track of twin tails quoting a line from romeo and juliet, the balcony scene specifically where the two are professing / lamenting about their love for each other. re the song, this is the most challenging song mincho-zilla composed for twin tails thus far.

Domination LIVE The Mighty Miku Kobato was verbally riffing on a scene from Romeo and Juliette where Juliette hears the morning lark but mistakes it for the nightingale which would signify they had more time to be together. Miku is quite the accomplished lyricist. When Miku founded the band she couldn't play the guitar at all. Sensai Kanami taught her and she practiced until her fingers bled. She is the Maid I admire the most.
I just kept watching the 48 min version, more Miku vocals for me. From Now On was my first song and hooked me. I probably have 98% of their music on my playlist, not really a bad that puts out a song you dont want to listen to. And the middle spoken version of the song is Miku reciting Shakespeare cause why not.
during the Kanami Ohrenje documentary it says Miku was worried about hitting the high note Kanami had written for her and Kanami just saying "go for it"
If you like the acoustic setting “at the drop of a hat” is a very good one in this same setting. “Anemone” live at zeppelin Tokyo 2018 by senji is another favorite of mine.
I generally prefer my music on the heavier side, but that acoustic Christmas concert they did was one of their best performances ever. It really is special.

You can't really see it in this song but the windows overlook Yokohama harbor. The concert took an entire day to shoot. The first song, "Smile" was as day was breaking and the last one, "Page" was at twilight. The whole concert was wonderful. I will say that "Smile" and "Page" are my favorites from it.

You might be the only person to EVER pick up that she is named after Islay scotch. About 5 years ago now I had just purchased a Lagavulin 16 I believe and we got her from the rescue a few days later. I always thought the name “Ila” was pretty, so I spelt it like my favorite scotch, “Islay”.

Green. After hearing a few songs way back when, I decided to start listening to Band-Maid's albums on a streaming service from oldest to newest (though the oldest one wasn't on there) while doing yard work. As I was getting close to done, I got to Puzzle and was a bit stunned by it. I listened to it on repeat for at least a week. It's still my favorite song, by anyone. For Sayonakidori... The Tokyo Garden Theater concert video that you watched first is from the bluray of that concert. They also livestreamed that concert. There is a small edit on the bluray version's audio. In the bridge of the song, when Miku was playing guitar up front, she stayed up there a bit too long, and wasn't able to make it back to her mic in time to start singing, so a few words were missing. They put those back in. There are a few other small tweaks like that between the livestream and the bluray, but not very many. The high note in the full song is not in head voice, because she was "not allowed to run away". For the acoustic version she lowered the vocals down half a step and was allowed to use her head voice (which I think fits the feel of the acoustic very nicely).
@@WilliamHallisey ? 1) But that's not what she sung. 2) Like I wrote "Ai" literally translated means "Love" - I still don't know why it isn't translated in neither of the versions. The only thing I could think of (if it was intentionally) is that they wanted to show the great structure of the lyric. But for that they didn't do enough. For example: "Ima Ai (Love) o mitsuketa Ai (Love) o Oitekanaide (Don't leave behind) yume no naka Aitakutemo (Even if I want to see you) aini (meet you) ikenai (I can't) Toki wa tada sugiteyuku Aenai (I can't meet you) yoru o koete" Multiple words with "ai" were used in a short amount of time for different words.

The Band-Maid song that hooked me was Thrill (like so many others), and it was my first song.You mention that bands have those songs you skip, but how you haven't heard one you would skip... it's possible you'll go all 130 Band-Maid songs without finding a skip song. Which sounds impossible, but... you'll see. If you want to skip to one of the often cited "Least awesome" songs from Band-Maid, try, perhaps, Big Dad off their first album. Now somebody inevitably will reply to this, saying that Big Dad is one of their favorites. Because that's just how ridiculously consistent this band is. I've never seen any two Band-Maid fans with the same top five favorites list, if they can even put such a list together at all (I sure can't). Most such lists don't even have a single matching song in them. When reactors start listening to Band-Maid, they assume that we're throwing the best pieces at them and that eventually they'll start to run out of the best pieces. But... we never do.
I want a whiskey room. Yep, Miku's a heart melter for sure. Wait until you've watched her in action for Miku's Magic Spell Time! The 10th anniversary (Yokohama arena show) also has a great version of her song Rock in Me where she runs around the stadium and even high fives MISA's mom and members of Lovebites who are in the crowd. You can't watch that without grinning your ass off.
That's not her head voice in the electric version, that's her chest voice! It's also the very top of her range, and she doesn't always hit it live, though I've seen people say she's gotten more consistent. Fans at shows always cheer like hell when she hits it. The band lets her cheat by using head voice in the acoustic. And yes, the acoustic is a whole concert and it's amazing.
I think she has so much power on that note in the live, because she's using her chest. Her range is actually huge. It's bigger than Saiki's. But it's a challenge for her to do that, and she misses sometimes. I think there's an MC segment floating around where Saiki comes out right after Sayonakidori and is like, "Missed it again, huh?" I think it's a piece of cake for her with her head voice. Seems effortless in the acoustic. Also much easier for her to sing at her best when she's able to just sit and play, instead of running and jumping all over the stage in those giant heels and screaming like a lunatic to get the crowd pumped up while the rest of the band rests. She gets overlooked a lot, because the other instrumentalists are just stronger instrumentalists, but her job is so hard, and she brought this miracle band together. I respect her so much.
She is also the boss. She is the manager and promoter, conducts all negotiations and manages finances. By the way, she also manages the girls' personal finances, in terms of investments.

So we should all try to remember, something like a year or 2 before she started creating the Maids, Miku was part of a 3 piece idol group called Lil Cumin (beat out 2600 other contestants to get the spot) so yes she can sing, she just doesnt have the power of Sai-chan. The 1st Band-Maid song that caught my attention was Thrill, but the one that REALLY got me hooked was Puzzle. Really happy to see your reactions the last couple of days, because Puzzle will always be my favorite Band-Maid song and Sayonakidori is my second favorite, with about 120 other songs tie for 3rd.
Great reaction! Navy Blue and Thrill, their very first MV, was my first video. It was fantastic and I was an immediate fan. That Christmas acoustic concert cd was only available to fan club (Omeisyusama) members. We have been begging for a Blu-ray but, I'm guessing that it isn't going to happen. I don't see it in the store so they may have stop selling it since there is a newer concert from 2024 available.
A band that can pull this off without their lead singer or lead guitarist, is a band worth watching. : ). Akane is drumming with rods instead of drum sticks. That softens the sound. Definitely green, and 'Secret My Lips'. I was thrilled to hear it at my first BAND-MAID show in 2018.
Blue. Domination live was the first song I watched and was hooked. You should check out Catharsis from this same acoustic concert and their Apirl fools day pranks. Band Maiko from 2019 2 M/V's Secret Maiko Lips and Gion-cho. In 2022 Miku came out with Cluppo another Aprils fools Day and has 4 different M/V's. Also, Secret maiko lips has a regular band maid version Secret my lips.
No, AI means "Love" in Japanese. This song is based on Romeo and Juliet. And Miku in the full on live version, was NOT allowed to use her head voice or falsetto for that high note. Kanami told her she had to stay in chest voice to hit it. And she did and does 90% of the time. And when she does hit it live, all of us in the audience cheer for her, and we cheer even louder the few times when she misses it because she still gave it her all to hit it. In the acoustic she did use head voice/falsetto, it's kind of hard to hit that kind of note while sitting down, the body mechanics just aren't the greatest. Also, except for a few chording issues, Miku rearranged the entire song herself. Normally Kanami does the rearranging. But since this is "Miku's" song, Kanami had her do it. And like I wrote, all Miku needed help with was a few chording issues, since she can't or couldn't read sheet music at this time. And this was the first time since mid to late 2019 that Akane and MISA both sang backing vocals live. My understanding is that as their parts became more technical they found it difficult to both play and sing, so their vocals were added to the backing track. MISA rarely sang/sings but she does add vocals to the backing track ie: gang vocals, shouts, whistles, whoops and hollars. And the acoustic of Catharsis is also available on their channel. Someone has the live from Line Cube Shibuya, they should send you the link, so you can do a triple, of the album, live then acoustic. Hmm favorite color? Most of my guitars are red, but I like blue better, but I also like white vehicles, so maybe multi-colored. The first song I hear from the Ladies was "Freedom", but it just drew me in, the second song is what snagged me forever. I had gotten up and loaded up my computer like I normally do and was getting ready to start going through my subscription list to update my blogs, when one of the cats and one of the dogs decided to start a fight in the other room. So I got up and separated them, kenneling both of them. As I came into my room I was hearing this awesome drum solo, which was confusing as how did I go from a news video to a music video. I rewound the video and it watched from the beginning. Then I rewatched it 3 or 4 more times. And I saw the next video recommended from them was "Onset". I clicked on it and WHAM! I was became a locked in life long fan from that moment on. Then I found "Domination" and all the rest of their videos. I became a junkie looking for a fix. For about 3 months I searched and searched and searched, looking for every translated interview, every fancam, everything I could about these 5 young Ladies. They have reinvigorated my love of music, made me pick up the guitar again after 45 years, I even bought an inexpensive E-drum kit to replace my old Hohner kit. I have found several DOZENS of other bands, old and new. I have found older music from back when the Soviet Union was still around and even though I can't speak Russian, I've found some interesting music from behind the Iron Curtain. All because I forgot to turn off Auto-Play one day and 5 extremely talented young Japanese women, who are some of the hardest working women in Rock & Roll, entered my musical life. For that, I will be their fan for the rest of my life. Thanks to them, I have rediscovered music that I never knew existed from my youth, and every day I discover new bands and groups across the world.

Miku is a fantastic vocalist. I would love more songs with Miku as main vocalist. Or at least more songs were Saiki and Miku sharing the vocals like they did in the beginning of their career. Miku is to good to mostly doing harmonies. Even if she does it great🙂 Thsnk you for your reaction😀
Purple. I watched the Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 live okyuji as my introduction to Band-Maid and was hooked forever. Only an hour of that concert has ever been released but it is an awesome hour of Band-Maid live. The entire Online Acoustic Okyuji was streamed on Christmas Day 2021. There are plenty of bootleg versions of it online but I am not sure that you can get an official copy of it anymore. Saiki and Akane set the rules on what clothing to wear for it. The rules were beige and red. Akane called them reindeer colors. She must have been thinking of Rudolph for the red part. (LOL) Miku was the only vocalist when the band was formed. They played three live shows with her as the lead singer. When Saiki came onboard her and Miku did dual lead vocals for a while. Miku did not know how to play guitar at all then. She was taught how to play guitar by Kanami some time after the Thrill video was made.
Miku is a great lyricist. Ai (pronounced "I") is love in Japanese. If you ever do her Cluppo song "With You" you'll see her use it both for the Japanese meaning and the English pronunciation at the same time.
The best version of SAYONAKIDORI is BAND‐MAID - SAYONAKIDORI - Oct 15 2022 at The Belasco, Los Angeles, CA, USA . Listen and wait near the end when she hits the high note and the crowd goes nuts . It chokes me up every time I hear it .

"Ai" means love. In the lyrics, "Ai" is written in katakana, which is a secondary alphabet used in Japanese primarily for foreign/loan words. It's akin to using italics in English. Sometimes it's just for emphasis, but Miku (the primary lyricist for Band-Maid) is a big fan of word play, so you can imagine that she means to use a double, or triple meaning, as it's a homophone with "I" or "eye", so it might be that when she says she's found an "I", it could be about her sense of self, or pride, or something along those lines, that caused them to separate. It could also be that she's talking about finding an "eye", like developing an awareness, being able to see things she couldn't before.
There are other mentions of eyes in the song. Right before the first time "Ai" is in the lyrics, she says "Yureru hitomi", which is like quivering eyes, like when you're so emotional that your eyes can't settle, and there's a line about closing her eyes.
I generally recommend people just enjoy their music, and not bother trying to dissect the lyrics until they're prepared to do a really deep dive, which may involve learning Japanese.
I remember the first time I saw Band-Maid when Miku started singing this the whole crowd kind of took a deep breath waiting for the high note. When she hit it everyone gave her a big ovation.
I remember: there was such cheering in Belasco as if someone had scored a TD!
Such an incredible, layered, constantly evolving song, with so much to unpack. One of my favourite moments is the blink-and-you'll-miss-it twiddly bit at 3:33 in the studio version, a tiny glimpse of the kind of out-there proggy madness they're capable of, but only deploy in small doses (or sometimes in large doses, or even all the time, but woven into their songs in ways that sound deceptively straightforward).
I absolutely love the full-band version, but there's something truly magical about the acoustic. The way Miku glides into that soft high note... sublime.

I like to think she used the Romaji "AI" to say love in Japanese and "I" in English. She does this in the Cluppo song With You with the lyric sang in English "I will not lose" but can also mean "Love will not lose". I like the fact she plays with the languages to add meaning to the lyrics the deeper you dig in.

Sayonakidori means a small bird that sings in the night, and refers to the beautiful song of the nightingale. Miku wrote this lyric from Romeo and Juliet. There is a scene where the skylark starts singing at dawn, and the two of them talk about how the song is a nightingale and how dawn has not yet come. 'Puzzle' was the first BAND-MAID song I stumbled across. That was quickly followed by 'Moratorium' and then ''Play'. All of them live. Blew the top of my head right off. I have never been the same since. They are still my favorite band.

I can’t remember which song was my first listen, but I think it was either Warning, or Dice. And I was hooked after those two songs. I was lucky to see them just 4 months later live in concert, and I’d already listened to every track on every album multiple times. It was such a joy to see them so quickly after discovering them!
Early in Band Maid’s career Miku was the lead singer, but after a few shows she decided she didn’t have the power to do justice to the type of hard rockin’ Maid music she envisioned in her head. She then did something that most musicians don’t have the humility for, she decided to step aside and seek another vocalist. This had to be a scary if undeniably selfless act since at the time she hadn’t learned to play guitar yet. With assistance from their label and management they found Saki. I think they made the right choice, but I still love hearing Miku sing. Kanami hints that Miku pestered her until she conceded and taught her to play guitar. Thank you checking this song out.

The song that nailed my heart to BAND-MAId was “alone”, BAND-MAID’s first ever song that they composed by themselves, arranged by themselves, lyrics written by Miku, AND was allowed by the management and record label to be released.
Green-Onset. My first song was Thrill. TH-cam kept recommending this "BAND_MAID" group's song. I was like, "Maids, Really? Go home, TH-cam, you're drunk!" TH-cam insisted, and I eventually decided they looked cute; what the hell. OMG, it was not what I expected! I checked out a few of their songs and moved on. A few months later, TH-cam suggested a video that had just been uploaded, "onset." I remembered that I liked their stuff, so I watched it. I immediately told everyone I knew about the song. Have been a Madiac ever since.
Dark Blue and Thrill was my introduction to Band-Maid. This entire 2021 Xmas Acoustic concert was exceptional. 14 songs in total and very creative in how they arranged the songs and performed it with the various combinations of the band members. Simply mind blowing in how they were able to re-arrange songs that I would never have imagined could be performed acoustically.

Miku is a genius, 'nough said. Singing is great and now an accomplished guitarist since Kanami taught her how since 2014. She is the heart of this band. Sayonakidori=Nightingale and referes to Romeo and Juliet. She even managed to get some vibrato on the end of that high note. The spoken section is a quote from Shakespeare- more genius by Miku. The live acoustic set consists of 14 songs and release as a CD only- no video in spite of calls from many fans. Great reaction- Thanks (UK)

Yep. This was a 14 song set on XMas Day 2021 that was broadcast during Covid. And yes, there is a CD, but it was a limited pressing and only offered to fan club members.

I hope you are having a great day. In the all-electric version of this song, Miku was using a belting voice for the high notes since her falsetto is pretty quiet. She used falsetto for the acoustic version to hit the high notes easier. Akane also switched to bound sticks for this acoustic performance to lower the sheer volume of her drums, because she normally hits really hard. Another difference is that Misa was wearing shoes for this concert, and Misa didn't drink at all since she knew she was going to have to sing harmonies on some of the songs. All five members of the band can sing, but it is really rare for anybody except Miku or Saiki to sing.
When Sayonakidori first came out (Unseen World) Miku struggled to hit those high notes, but after working on her solo Cluppo projects (Without You) she has no problem hitting those notes now. Miku is a constant inspiration as she accomplishes every goal she sets her mind toward.

Dark red, like maroon. Probably like most fans, my first introduction to Band-Maid was “Thrill” but the song that got me hooked was “Dice”. It still remains one of my favorites.
Dice, as a song, kinda encapsulates everything that Band-Maid is: thundering drums and melodic bass, progressive verses paired with catchy, almost pop-like choruses, short blistering solos that don’t overstay their welcome, and the interplay between the two vocalists. Dice is one of those songs where people hear it and go “okay, now I understand the band”.
Dice is truly awesome...that and YOLO are my most listened to Maid Rock tracks by far 👌🔥❤

The song that got me hooked on Band maid was the official live of their song "PLAY", I still love it...
Sayonakidori translates as Nightingale but, Japanese being a many layered language, it breaks down to SA (small), YO (night) NAKI (singing) DORI (bird). For the 14 song acoustic set that they streamed on xmas day 2021, the band all chose clothes that fitted the colour scheme of Santa Red and Reindeer Beige. They performed in duos, trios and all together during the set. COLOUR - Blue and The Non-Fiction Days mv.
First song I heard was Blooming through a reaction video by DrumRollTony. I liked his musical analysis style of reactions so I clicked on Blooming and I loved the song instantly. Also green 👽

The Mighty Miku Kobato was verbally riffing on a scene from Romeo and Juliette where Juliette hears the morning lark but mistakes it for the nightingale which would signify they had more time to be together. Miku is quite the accomplished lyricist. When Miku founded the band she couldn't play the guitar at all. Sensai Kanami taught her and she practiced until her fingers bled. She is the Maid I admire the most.

From Now On was my first song and hooked me. I probably have 98% of their music on my playlist, not really a bad that puts out a song you dont want to listen to.

I generally prefer my music on the heavier side, but that acoustic Christmas concert they did was one of their best performances ever. It really is special.

Has anyone mentioned "Cluppo"? (side project band for Miku). Also mostly unknown was that Miku was in a band before Band-Maid. The group was called "Lil Cumin"
You can't really see it in this song but the windows overlook Yokohama harbor. The concert took an entire day to shoot. The first song, "Smile" was as day was breaking and the last one, "Page" was at twilight. The whole concert was wonderful. I will say that "Smile" and "Page" are my favorites from it.

You might be the only person to EVER pick up that she is named after Islay scotch. About 5 years ago now I had just purchased a Lagavulin 16 I believe and we got her from the rescue a few days later. I always thought the name “Ila” was pretty, so I spelt it like my favorite scotch, “Islay”.

Yes! I converted a spare bedroom into a whiskey room. Has all my whiskeys and other spirits I enjoy, a couple leather chairs and a tv. I might do a video in there one of these days, but getting my computer and everything set up might be challenging
Blue and "Don't Let Me Down". I first heard that song in December 2015 while looking for the Beatle song of the same name.
Green. After hearing a few songs way back when, I decided to start listening to Band-Maid's albums on a streaming service from oldest to newest (though the oldest one wasn't on there) while doing yard work. As I was getting close to done, I got to Puzzle and was a bit stunned by it. I listened to it on repeat for at least a week. It's still my favorite song, by anyone.
For Sayonakidori... The Tokyo Garden Theater concert video that you watched first is from the bluray of that concert. They also livestreamed that concert. There is a small edit on the bluray version's audio. In the bridge of the song, when Miku was playing guitar up front, she stayed up there a bit too long, and wasn't able to make it back to her mic in time to start singing, so a few words were missing. They put those back in. There are a few other small tweaks like that between the livestream and the bluray, but not very many.
The high note in the full song is not in head voice, because she was "not allowed to run away". For the acoustic version she lowered the vocals down half a step and was allowed to use her head voice (which I think fits the feel of the acoustic very nicely).
(Green ,Moratorium) Sayonakidori means Nightingale, which in this particular case is a very special type of Pigeon, po!

I like both live versions - I think the vibe in the "Live at eggman" one is better so maybe you want to check that, if not on cam at least off cam.
Ai shiteru in Japanese, is loosely translated to mean "I love you so deeply, I wish to marry you".

The Band-Maid song that hooked me was Thrill (like so many others), and it was my first song.You mention that bands have those songs you skip, but how you haven't heard one you would skip... it's possible you'll go all 130 Band-Maid songs without finding a skip song. Which sounds impossible, but... you'll see. If you want to skip to one of the often cited "Least awesome" songs from Band-Maid, try, perhaps, Big Dad off their first album. Now somebody inevitably will reply to this, saying that Big Dad is one of their favorites.
Because that's just how ridiculously consistent this band is. I've never seen any two Band-Maid fans with the same top five favorites list, if they can even put such a list together at all (I sure can't). Most such lists don't even have a single matching song in them.
When reactors start listening to Band-Maid, they assume that we're throwing the best pieces at them and that eventually they'll start to run out of the best pieces. But... we never do.

I want a whiskey room. Yep, Miku's a heart melter for sure. Wait until you've watched her in action for Miku's Magic Spell Time! The 10th anniversary (Yokohama arena show) also has a great version of her song Rock in Me where she runs around the stadium and even high fives MISA's mom and members of Lovebites who are in the crowd. You can't watch that without grinning your ass off.

That's not her head voice in the electric version, that's her chest voice! It's also the very top of her range, and she doesn't always hit it live, though I've seen people say she's gotten more consistent. Fans at shows always cheer like hell when she hits it. The band lets her cheat by using head voice in the acoustic.
And yes, the acoustic is a whole concert and it's amazing.
She honestly blew me away with the acoustic version.

I think she has so much power on that note in the live, because she's using her chest. Her range is actually huge. It's bigger than Saiki's. But it's a challenge for her to do that, and she misses sometimes. I think there's an MC segment floating around where Saiki comes out right after Sayonakidori and is like, "Missed it again, huh?" I think it's a piece of cake for her with her head voice. Seems effortless in the acoustic. Also much easier for her to sing at her best when she's able to just sit and play, instead of running and jumping all over the stage in those giant heels and screaming like a lunatic to get the crowd pumped up while the rest of the band rests. She gets overlooked a lot, because the other instrumentalists are just stronger instrumentalists, but her job is so hard, and she brought this miracle band together. I respect her so much.
She is also the boss. She is the manager and promoter, conducts all negotiations and manages finances. By the way, she also manages the girls' personal finances, in terms of investments.

Great reaction! Navy Blue and Thrill, their very first MV, was my first video. It was fantastic and I was an immediate fan. That Christmas acoustic concert cd was only available to fan club (Omeisyusama) members. We have been begging for a Blu-ray but, I'm guessing that it isn't going to happen. I don't see it in the store so they may have stop selling it since there is a newer concert from 2024 available.
A band that can pull this off without their lead singer or lead guitarist, is a band worth watching. : ).
Akane is drumming with rods instead of drum sticks. That softens the sound.

I was thrilled to hear it at my first BAND-MAID show in 2018.
This song is also a great example of the rarely heard backing vocals from Akane. She has a wonderful voice, but you don't often get to hear it.

Blue. Domination live was the first song I watched and was hooked. You should check out Catharsis from this same acoustic concert and their Apirl fools day pranks. Band Maiko from 2019 2 M/V's Secret Maiko Lips and Gion-cho. In 2022 Miku came out with Cluppo another Aprils fools Day and has 4 different M/V's. Also, Secret maiko lips has a regular band maid version Secret my lips.
No, AI means "Love" in Japanese. This song is based on Romeo and Juliet. And Miku in the full on live version, was NOT allowed to use her head voice or falsetto for that high note. Kanami told her she had to stay in chest voice to hit it. And she did and does 90% of the time. And when she does hit it live, all of us in the audience cheer for her, and we cheer even louder the few times when she misses it because she still gave it her all to hit it. In the acoustic she did use head voice/falsetto, it's kind of hard to hit that kind of note while sitting down, the body mechanics just aren't the greatest.
Also, except for a few chording issues, Miku rearranged the entire song herself. Normally Kanami does the rearranging. But since this is "Miku's" song, Kanami had her do it. And like I wrote, all Miku needed help with was a few chording issues, since she can't or couldn't read sheet music at this time.
And this was the first time since mid to late 2019 that Akane and MISA both sang backing vocals live. My understanding is that as their parts became more technical they found it difficult to both play and sing, so their vocals were added to the backing track. MISA rarely sang/sings but she does add vocals to the backing track ie: gang vocals, shouts, whistles, whoops and hollars.
And the acoustic of Catharsis is also available on their channel. Someone has the live from Line Cube Shibuya, they should send you the link, so you can do a triple, of the album, live then acoustic.

The first song I hear from the Ladies was "Freedom", but it just drew me in, the second song is what snagged me forever.
I had gotten up and loaded up my computer like I normally do and was getting ready to start going through my subscription list to update my blogs, when one of the cats and one of the dogs decided to start a fight in the other room. So I got up and separated them, kenneling both of them. As I came into my room I was hearing this awesome drum solo, which was confusing as how did I go from a news video to a music video. I rewound the video and it watched from the beginning. Then I rewatched it 3 or 4 more times. And I saw the next video recommended from them was "Onset". I clicked on it and WHAM! I was became a locked in life long fan from that moment on. Then I found "Domination" and all the rest of their videos. I became a junkie looking for a fix. For about 3 months I searched and searched and searched, looking for every translated interview, every fancam, everything I could about these 5 young Ladies. They have reinvigorated my love of music, made me pick up the guitar again after 45 years, I even bought an inexpensive E-drum kit to replace my old Hohner kit. I have found several DOZENS of other bands, old and new. I have found older music from back when the Soviet Union was still around and even though I can't speak Russian, I've found some interesting music from behind the Iron Curtain.
All because I forgot to turn off Auto-Play one day and 5 extremely talented young Japanese women, who are some of the hardest working women in Rock & Roll, entered my musical life. For that, I will be their fan for the rest of my life. Thanks to them, I have rediscovered music that I never knew existed from my youth, and every day I discover new bands and groups across the world.
wow...thanks for the info on the ladies....I only discovered Bandmaid in Feb of 2023 so i'm a newbie and really enjoy learning more about them on stage and off stage.
Miku is a fantastic vocalist. I would love more songs with Miku as main vocalist. Or at least more songs were Saiki and Miku sharing the vocals like they did in the beginning of their career. Miku is to good to mostly doing harmonies. Even if she does it great🙂

Purple. I watched the Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 live okyuji as my introduction to Band-Maid and was hooked forever. Only an hour of that concert has ever been released but it is an awesome hour of Band-Maid live.
The entire Online Acoustic Okyuji was streamed on Christmas Day 2021. There are plenty of bootleg versions of it online but I am not sure that you can get an official copy of it anymore. Saiki and Akane set the rules on what clothing to wear for it. The rules were beige and red. Akane called them reindeer colors. She must have been thinking of Rudolph for the red part. (LOL)
Miku was the only vocalist when the band was formed. They played three live shows with her as the lead singer. When Saiki came onboard her and Miku did dual lead vocals for a while. Miku did not know how to play guitar at all then. She was taught how to play guitar by Kanami some time after the Thrill video was made.

Miku is a great lyricist. Ai (pronounced "I") is love in Japanese. If you ever do her Cluppo song "With You" you'll see her use it both for the Japanese meaning and the English pronunciation at the same time.
