    Honestly, if I were Tchaikovsky and I saw this, I would absolutely love what they've done with the song, because although they were quite comical, they still pulled off a very difficult song to do a cappella. Honestly, if you can't laugh at yourself and your own creations, then you can't laugh at anything, and I think he had a sense of humor.

    it's insanely amazing!!!! wow... this must be done years ago(looking and the ladies hair style) I still believe that previous generations had a more artistic view on music(or other types of arts)and the performances used to have more quality in them. I think the value of real art used to be more comprehended than now!but please don't attack me for saying that because I know many people disagree with me!

    It's amazing that most of you didn't ever heard about the Swingles...
    As an information for everybody, they were the best a capella group in the 50, 60, and 80 decades...
    Not just as a singing group, but by their vocal quality !!!
    You dont have to like the repertoire, but not recognasing vocal quality is a sign of musical ignorance !!!

      Come on man...a sign of musical ignorance! That's a bit harsh my brother! I was introduced to the group at the age of 3, by my Dad, who was an avid jazz and classical music lover. The best Acapella and percussion sound out there! By the way I'm in my 60's now!!

  • @metallicarocks911

    This is absolutely amazing. The performance is top notch. Voices are well balanced, and one does not outshine the other, yet they they are still incredibly powerful!
    The only thing I have to criticize is that some parts feel, as if one of the singers is a little out of tune, but it is somewhat negligable!
    The vocal solo at 1:11 is absolutely stunning, and well composed!
    9.5/10! :D

      @kindheart1956 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually there is a drone portion and that is slightly out of ture. So actually the singer is better then others if you have never noticed that part, because it is there in the music.

    @Schamschi: I'm sorry you can't appreciate such an amazing a cappella group. Believe it or not this was actually written sung and recorded before family guy existed, so I can't see why you made such a bizarre reference to (I agree) a rather shitty show. If you listened to the original you might find that they imitate an orchestra bloody well! Their sound is very clean and crisp, and the chords ring perfectly. (continued)

    Well everyone has a sense of humor,(hopefully)but if you were to put your heart into a patriotic work about your country, nationalism,and pride, then it would probably be very serious. But you're right, they are good. By the way,Tchaikovsky was a very peculiar person. He had an attitude as if he was the only person to have talent...if in doubt,look up what he said about Johannes Brahm's music and other composers of his time.

      It wasn't written with text, but songs with text were derived in composing it, most notably the hymn Spaisi Gospodi and a Russian folk song were used multiple times in the overture.

    (...continued) basically dislike the Swingle Singers very much, so this positive first thought was against all of the prejudice against the Swingle Singers I might have had). Then came the choreography, and I thought "of course, they can't resist being stupid and doing bad and unnecessary choreographies, but whatever, maybe the music will be worth putting up with it". But when the "gags" started, I realised this is just a cheesy and shallow circus act. Well, if they have to ruin music, so be it.

    Tell me: Why should I take the classics always seriously? I do it when I feel like it. And I take them easy when I want to. Have you ever read about Mozart? How much fun he had in his life and with his music? I want to take the classics at least as much easy as I take them seriusly.
