My older siblings would play this album on our hi-fi in the 60s and this was my favorite tune. There I was 8 years old in Brooklyn scatting along thinking nothing of it😂. Glad they introduced me to the classics and jazz back then...it's been a keeper❤
Really incredible. I found this because I read a Junji Ito story about a cursed record that was inspired by this group. He heard a record in a shop I think and started putting ideas together. Really is a great track though.
When this was coming out I was 16 years old and a guitar player in a rock band. I would never admit I got into this because I thought it would ruin any credibility I had as a rocker. It wasn't until years later I found out that everyone I knew liked it too, but wouldn't admit it for the same reason. How ironic can you get? After all these years it still sounds great. Great music will always be great no matter how old it is.
I have to say something after all these years. I too listened to these guys, in secret. Bought two of their albums and listened through headphones. I came across them in the early 80's and considered myself rather ''hip''. Still like them. Nice to see videos of them. xxx
@@francisheperi1127 What I find so cool about your response is I'm many decades older than you (I'm 68 years old) and even with that age difference we can still find common ground.😁
Many find J.S. Bach's Melodic Counterpoint Lines so complex/complicated/difficult; but this PROVES His Lines were just SO NATURAL and EVERY voice goes into PERFECT Harmony with the other! Only a TRUE Master of Music can do this!
At the minute 1:35 what a beautiful voice and beautiful articulated sounds, soft, sound and harmonious. A voice that we no longer find in the Swingles of today. Just like the other voices. A unique moment of choral and symphonic singing. Congratulations again! Unfortunately, something important was lost crossing the Channel.
This wonderful melody and record used in film "July Rain" of Marlen Khutziev, 1966. Thanks for publishing it - i never knew the origin of melody before i saw this record. Wonderful performance and singers.

Merci !

Herzlichen Dank lieber Zvonko Sisuric fürs Posten.

You are right, I remember the choral ensembles who sung Argentine folk music in the sixties and. seventies in Argentina.
Is anyone here from Junji Ito's "Used Record"? 🎵
I've done my homework.

I just finished reading it.

My Mom had the first Swingle Singers albums, back in the 60’s.
Thanks for the trip back in TIME.

Belleza Inmortal!
That solo performance is hypnotic. I love how she uses her facial expressions.
Best melodies I can remember when I was a teen in the 70s
This is before all singing became sexualized, it is just BEAUTIFUL!!!
This was the music that opened a big wonderful door to the world of jazz. Such wonderful music, classical with a swing.

Try doing this without sliding between notes, it's tough. She hits each note distinctly while maintaining a jazz expression. Brava!
Yes, she hits each note spot on, She sings notes that other singers dont't even know about.
She slides into a note at 2:51.
Le Grande was one of the best session vocalists of her time, a virtuoso by any measure.

Ah yes, the sound inside Gould's head while playing Bach
ahahahahahahahahah
And it matters not which piece he's playing.
Exactly!!!
Probably the sound in Bach’s head when he was composed it.

i love this opening of this partita... it always makes me cry!!!!... i love you bach!!!!!!!! thanks for sharing it bayawiki!!!!!!!
Beautiful, haunting music.❤
So much respect to that bass player haha, some seriously crazy shifts and scales especially towards the end.
Deep in my heart.... un solo vocal aussi agréable à écouter qu.a interpréter... en décembre 1970... à Landau ......
Bach is Jazz in positive way. Swings and rolls very nicely. Rock'n roll almost never rolls..
Let's be patient. Slow harmonies and at around 01:20, the vocal fireworks from soprano Christiane Legrand and the ensemble come into play. SOLID!
Michel Legrand'sister
Formidable, espectacular! impresionante!!!

they meaning the original players sans Jean Cussac (101), no? :)

My pa bought the album this was on. I was hooked. Aged 12.
It amuses me to think this group's light touch paved the way for the "Period Instrument/Performance Revolution" in the 70's.
The very discovery of this form was in itself, a legitimate stroke of genius too.
Brilliant and Classic!!!
