- "What is the best lure for saltwater fishing?" is a question we get all of the time.
The answer of course depends on exactly what type of fishing you'll be doing as well as what species you're targeting.
So in this video, I'll share a case study that reveals my most trusted lure and overall strategy for consistently catching fish even when traveling to areas that I have never fished before.
Head over to our online Fishing School because it'll help show you how to quickly find great fishing spots along with all of the additional information you need to succeed: www.saltstrong...

These “in-the-field” type of videos are crazy beneficial. Instead of trying to envision what you’d be explaining, the visuals of site and tactic show us EXACTLY what to look for and how to do it!!!
Thank you!!!
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment!
Love this format. Getting to see the skills put to use is so beneficial to becoming better fishermen. I’ve gone over the lessons multiple times especially with seasonal changes but seeing it in practice is not only enjoyable to watch but drives home the techniques and methodology to catching better and more fish.
Thanks so much for making time to post the nice comment! Glad to see that you enjoyed this lesson.
It's nice to see you guys together thanks for sharing
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Philip!
Wow! Great day with Dad on board. Love those Keys bridges. Is this the & long bridge?
I'm not sure what the name of this bridge is... it's close to Islamorada which is where we launched from. We have used this same lure and technique for some fun fish catching at other bridges down in the Keys too, so it's more about the technique than the spot.
The shrimp lure good for targeting multiple species no doubt, but I'd say a silver or gold spoon be the only other lure better
Thanks for making time to post the lure suggestion. Which spoon in particular do you like best?
Those permit were really cool. I'd let most of them go but they're too good to eat to release them all. One would have to be dinner.
Yes, permit do taste good, but the locals down in the FL Keys do not like to see them being kept so we let them all go. The yellow jacks taste just as good (if not better) in my opinion, so that's most often what I'm targeting and catching around the bridges when I do this type of fishing. For some odd reason the permit were crashing the party this trip, and that sure made for an amazing trip.
@Saltstrong it definitely looked like fun!
what were the specs on the rod that you were using? What size bait caster?
Links to all of the equipment used for all of us are in this post on our website: www.saltstrong.com/articles/best-lure-for-saltwater-fishing/
I was using a 7' medium power rod with a 150 sized baitcast reel spooled with 15 lb braid and 20 lb mono leader.
