  • Set Net Salmon Fishing from Skiff - Coffee Point near Egegik, Alaska
Watch us prepare the rigging and set the gill net. Join us as we pull the net into the river, launch the skiff, collect the Salmon and deliver the catch to the buyers located on the bay. Set net salmon fishing involves a net up to 300 feet that is anchored with one end to the beach and a second out in the river.

I set net a mile south of Nikiski Dock for four summers for a family. I lived on the beach for two of those summers. Thanks for the video, it reminds me of the best time I ever had working! It was over 40 years ago now.

Yep, one could call this work but in reality it’s an opportunity of a lifetime. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Dave.

Aaron, you are absolutely correct, great folks. Peg passed away a few years ago but Steve still lives in Anchorage. He travels to Montana and Wyoming each spring to visit relatives. Steve still can tell some awesome stories! Thanks for viewing and commenting. It brings back great memories of our trip to Coffee Point in 2000. Dave in Montana.

I am impressed by the skiff trailer that hoists the skiff up in stead of sliding up .

This video was shot in 2001 with a 1997 vintage camcorder. Wind noise was always a concern with that camera. Sorry to disappoint. All videos captured after 2009 are in HD with an external microphone and a deadcat wind muff. Must get back to Alaska and re-shoot! Dave.

Awesome comments! I captured these videos in 2001, after the restaurant and hotel closed but the buildings were still standing. It was a week to remember for me. I sometimes watch these videos just to reminisce. You certainly could have seen Steve Wilsons boat and setup since he was up there for many years (summer). A good book that will interest you is a first-hand account by Wilma Williams, "This is Coffee Point: Go Ahead", published by Alaska Pioneer Series. ISBN 1-886921-03-2. Written during the fishing years 1964-1990. I found it extremely interesting. Thanks again for watching and commenting on my videos. I appreciate it. Dave in Montana.

Sorry, I don’t but good luck with your quest. You may make it back to Alaska really soon (or maybe you live in AK). Thanks for asking.
