    Thank you for being one of the most professionl voices in the industry. You just say, how good the stuff is, for guys, who work with the stuff. Not only reading numbers, but also telling, how good and conveniet it is to build up and pack it back.

    I agree smart frame design on the Godox, and agree about center support on mat, thinking of running velcro down the center or something that could add that center support, especially when rigged overhead etc

  • @craigdrevil

    Wonder if you could add a small strip (or a couple small strips) of velcro to the back of the unit, and put the corresponding velcro on the center frame piece to keep it flush? Great content as always!!

    Great review!!! I think I'll get the Godox. Another question - Where can I get that Head you pushed out of the frame in the beginning?

      I've looked and looked for the episode when you first introduced us to "hedly." I'm glad I watched this review again and read the comments!

    Luke what front diffusion panels are included with Godox KNOWLED 4x4 600Bi? I assume a full stop? Have you sourced any other "flavors" say 1/2 grid . Magic Cloth etc that would work on the front? Thanks for all the great info as usual! I ordered one for a gig in November but it is backordered so trying to get accessories going ahead of delivery.

      Good question. I have not sourced other fronts, but I imagine any of the grip fabric sources would be willing to fabricate fronts: LA Rag, The Rag Place, Canvas Grip, and the like. The F600Bi comes with only the one front. Until now it’s worked well and I haven’t wished I had others, which seems odd because like you, I love having choices😀

      @@meetthegaffer Currently looking at the Litemat 8 Diffusers as an option but $280 each! Ouch

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure they would quite fit either. I believe the LiteMats 8 is 42”x42”, but I could be wrong.

    hey luke thank you for the insightful comparison, one question which mat has less color shift when using at 3200k at around 5 percent brightness

    • @meetthegaffer

      Good question! If I was as meticulous as Andrew Lock I would have that information readily available 😬. Obviously, with the Aladdin you could dial it out. Anecdotally, the Godox can be a little magenta, but I have used it at low output quite often and not felt the need to correct it. They are mass produced, so your mileage may differ.

    Awesome review - looks like a great light! I’m wondering if any other grids would work with this - in particular the DOP Choice Snap Grid

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know the answer to that, but I’m sure you could contact them or a partner like TRP in LA to find out!

      You could probably use on of the Honeycrates Butterfly grids which goes directly on to a 4x4 grip frame?

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want diffusion standing off from the emitters a ways I don’t think it would work to have the attach an LCD directly to the frame of the F600Bi. You’d need to attach a snapbox first and then an LCD to that.

    Thank you for this! How did you avoid the light in your glasses? Is it positioning, angle, or some other things? I really appreciate your content!

    • @meetthegaffer

      The unit was somewhat to the side, so it was not showing up as a distracting reflection and also providing some shape to my face.

    The thing bugging me is the green caste coming off the outside foliage and hitting the off-white back wall. Looking quickly online, I don’t think either mat light offers a +/- green adjustment, which is beginning to pop up in some of the bi-color cob lights and is an easy fix in an RGBLAC fixture (if you have enough stand off room). Otherwise, it’s not the end of the world to fix and many would never notice, but if it we’re my set, I’d want to isolate the outside windows and push a more color accurate source into the background.

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course; it’s all about what you have time, money, and personnel to do. The Aladdin is a full color unit; you could dial in anything you’d like in terms of tint or color.

      @@meetthegaffer With all that aside, the Knowled line from Godox keeps carving out a larger and large niche for itself on professional sets. In fact, I’ve been planning to pick up one of these mat lights once they get in stock. I have a shot planned for a short I’m filming a few months, where the ultra low profile will make rigging a down light much simpler in a low ceiling space. Last time I looked it was still listed as a preorder item but it should be available in time. Thanks very much for the review.

    Would it be fairly easy to rig overhead? Same as a frame?

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It will be more weight than a 4x4 frame, but very easy to rig it on a goalpost. It might be a tad unruly on a menace arm because of the size, but still doable with good technique.

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A book light is an indirect source, whereas this is a direct source. I often send the F600Bi through another layer of 6x6 diffusion for an even softer feel.

    Another solid review. These folding light panels continue to improve and impress. I'll probably be tempted at some point, and I'll be looking back to your reviews to make an informed choice.
