If you are reading this and struggle with succulents here is my recipe for success! (I have a collection of about 70 and they are all pretty old!) -Terra cotta pot/ or drainage at least -saucer When your plant is bone dry water with a narrow spout watering can about half what you think it needs, and let it soak for a minute or so. If water doesn’t bleed through to the saucer after a minute give it a little more and wait. Come back in an hour or two, the plant and soil should have drank up all the excess but if there is a ton left over and your plant is sopping, dump it out. Otherwise consider your plant watered until it is bone dry again! If you have a huge collection like me you’re not moving plants around to bottom water!! This essentially does the same thing ensuring the soil gets a chance to soak up excess water. Hard mode: pots without drainage, when the soil is bone dry and maybe the plant is even a little puckered pour about 75% as much water as your think it needs and leave it for an hour. If you come back and it looks like a large amount of the soil is still bone dry direct small amounts of water on the dry portions to ensure even water distribution to all of the roots! To Mildred- I also have no sun and almost all shade trees in my yard. I have a few more to add to Laura’s list…Hostas, Day Lillies, Lungwort, Astilbe, and Hellabores all preform pretty well for me in the shade. I also use Heucheras, impatients, and petunias. The day lilies surprised me because they are mostly sun lovers, but they grow like weeds here in MN 4b. So much so that some people call them ditch lilies, because they thrive on the side of the road. They are survivors, those day lilies- and I love them.

Edwards is heated with geothermal water, which is very cost-effective. Hopefully, they will bring the popup park you mentioned back; I think they still do yoga. The city of Boise uses geothermal energy to heat over 90 buildings downtown, the most extensive municipal system in the nation.
Oh, thats cool! I didn’t know there was warm water clear over there, away from Warm Springs. I haven’t been to Edwards in a year or two. I need to make a trip!

Haaaaaaaaa! String of beans!!! I love Aaron’s sense of humour. Also, I often pick up flattened cardboard from different stores for use in my no till garden beds (first layer) works so well!
Hello GA friends. I plan on covering my front yard berm with bubblegum supertinia. I have several blue cedars and the bright pink of the supertinia will look spectacular. I think it will shock the neighbors .
To cover pots' drain holes, I use clam shells that I find all over our beaches. Their imperfect shape allows water to seep underneath the shell, while keeping the soil away from the hole. They're easy to use and easy to store.
I had to laugh out loud when Aaron was talking about “String Of” plants. You looked so puzzled when he said String of Beans! Lol String beans! I would love to see the different varieties of these plants though. I love String of Pearls Keep up the wonderful work!
So glad to know you will be at Andrews more. Enjoy seeing your mom when you are doing things together. Enjoy morning coffee watching your videos! This is a great community!
Mildred Jeff, Astilbe (a perennial) is a great flowering plant for shade! They come in different bloom colors too, so lot's of choices. Mixed with Heuchera and Hosta, you can get as much color as you want!
That's exciting that Laura will be spending more time at the garden center coming up! It adds one more interesting part and variety to the channel. I am really enjoying the house plant and succulent videos and I hope they will continue as part of the channel, as well as working out in the garden again. :)

I just love your show and recommend it to people all the time. I have a friend I just learned has terminal cancer and am going to recommend it to her as well. Your personality and the family relationships are just so encouraging and just fill my day with brightness and then there are the beautiful plants which just feed the soul. Perhaps in some future videos you might open or close with some music from the Steinway and Laura. Thank you again for today.
PVC pipe ( like a telescope ) in the hartley heating vent, would provide options for soil level and you could cap them off when you don’t want to heat the cold frames. ( and you can paint it so it blends in if need be )

Yes do that! I started one in zone 7!
I know your parents will be thrilled to have you down there! I love being with my grown children and doing projects with them it is a win-win!
I'd absolutely LOVE to see a life cycle video for most of the projects you've done! That's the best kind of education, I think. Thank you so much!!
Aaron is feisty in this video! I'm dying laughing today! Love you guys!!!
I loved seeing your Mom when she saw the blooming hellebores ❤️
Always enjoy your Highlights. Always in need of a little Garden Answer "fix"
So many plants is not a sickness, it is a commitment.😍
Ahh, my weekly Garden Answer podcast ☺️😍
You should make a feature wall for the plaques I think it would look really cool and well deserved for such great videos and hard work
That's exciting that Laura will be spending more time at the garden center coming up! It adds one more interesting part and variety to the channel. I am really enjoying the house plant and succulent videos and I hope they will continue as part of the channel, as well as working out in the garden again. :)
It’s true Laura... one can never have too many plants or too many seeds. It just doesn’t happen!
I like that: "passion project" just for the sake of joy
Thumbs up for mom’s sweet reaction!
Oh my -great recap. It was really fun hanging out with you and Aaron
. Love that he is among the three most helpful people you know. We all love your mom so much and as someone else said we all knew what she meant with her POS comment. Never would even occur to us she;d mean anything else.
As always your enthusiasm is very contagious. Thankyou.
PVC pipe ( like a telescope ) in the hartley heating vent, would provide options for soil level and you could cap them off when you don’t want to heat the cold frames. ( and you can paint it so it blends in if need be )
Yeah, the TH-cam plaques should be displayed in the studio, they would look good!
Time goes by soooo fast.2 years is a drop in the bucket! Just look at how far you've come in 1 year!!!
I love your mom and her uplifting personality. I'm excited to see more Garden Center videos!
I use window screen mesh to cover the holes on all my pots to prevent them from clogging and to keep soil from getting away.
True, a gardener can never have too many plants!
One can’t have too many seeds either! I can’t stop buying them!
For drain holes in pots, I use leftover screen material from our porch - cut into squares…..works great to let water out and keep soil in!!
My Orchids thrive. I submerge the pots in water for three days once a month. I think you would love them. They are my heart ❤️
You two are so sweet!! I get a kick out of watching your Q&A's. Congrats on your TH-cam subscribers!!
