It was forced mate in 2. He did checkmate him. Just because Magnus didn’t let it play out on the board doesn’t mean he wasn’t getting checkmated.
I know it was mate in 2 with Qh8+ and Qg7# but he didn't play on the board so technically he didn't checkmate him.
@@vishnusharma2958 This is the closest you’ll ever get to a checkmate on the board for high level GM tournaments so I really don’t understand your argument. It was forced mate. Magnus saw it was forced mate. Just because he didn’t play it out on the board doesn’t change the result.

2: Black king moves too H7 to get out of check.
3: White queen too H8 to check the king again.
4: Black king to G6 to get out of check.
5: White queen to G7 mating the king.
