    Class Video!
    Just to be in the water beside one of those fish would be amazing, don't think I'd have the stones to actually stick a spear into one.
    Whatever about other Europeans catching them ,we unfortunately sold out the fishing industry in favour of supporting the farmers to join the EU, there is also a fleet of Japanese longliners which are allowed fish these North Atlantic Tuna each year. There is currently one 55m Japanese vessel sitting just outside the Irish fishing grounds with more probably joining sooner rather than later.

    In France not everybody is allowed to shoot or to fish bluefin tuna you need to ask for a special permition from the government that allows you to take one bluefin tuna.
    Not everybody receives the permition only a few people.

    Why do you have that o ring holding your flopper closed? I have one on my Salvimar but I’m afraid it won’t slip off the flopper when I hit the fish and the flopper won’t be able to open. Have you ever had that happen or have that fear as well?

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spear travels too fast for it to stay on there. Never had the problem and thousands of people in the Mediterranean use it daily. It’s not super tight anyways, just enough to hold it closed.

    Beautiful fish! What is the difference between the Bluefin Tuna and a Yellowfin? The Bluefin also has yellow fins. When I sailed across the Atlantic Ocean we had a 2 meter Tuna swim next to the boat for 10 days (1500 miles). Totally beautiful to watch swimming at 7 knots without even moving it's body!

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The yellowfin tuna doesn't handle as cold of water as the Atlantic bluefin tuna. The main difference is the yellowfin tuna have huge yellow sickle like dorsal & anal fins when they get big. Sometimes they go as far back as the caudal fin. Bluefin don't grow this huge fins.

    • @christophersmith7714
      @christophersmith7714 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanielMann thanks for that info. That confirms what I saw was a Yellowfin. At times on that crossing the Atlantic was so calm that there was not even a ripple on it. I have pics of that Tuna where it's like looking into an aquarium. the whole crew fell in love with that Tuna.

      Hey there, I have a Polosub vest but the best one for safety is the sporasub one. I think I’ll get one of those soon actually. I sew my own lead shot pouches instead of hard weights. Much more comfortable.
      I don’t change my battery in the water, maybe at sea in a boat. I use one button on mode, or rabbit mode so when you press the top button, the camera comes on and starts recording. Press again and it stops recording and turns off. Only way to use one for spearfishing.

    This is exactly why I think spearfishing is the one method to catch fish that I think is all fine. Because you can pick the fish you want and will be able to dispatch it quickly. Instead of fishing with hook and pole, a net, and so on. That too often prolongs the suffering of the fish. And come with the risk of catching fish and other things you don't want.

    Awesome video! Nice to see you dive in Ireland and get some Pollock! Can you explain how you bleed a fish underwater?

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can see a swift slice in the throat section in this video. Very quick and easy to do. You don’t need to hack the gills or totally sever the throat to bleed a fish. Cutting that soft area leads right to the heart and the fish bleeds out very quickly.

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have it there on purpose to keep the flopper shut when diving. Doesn’t spook the fish as much and doesn’t get caught on kelp & weed.

    Hi Daniel! Congratulations on the channel and the videos. As for Ireland where I have to go to work in a few months I could not find videos where you can see catches of large sea bass. I have seen many fish but never very large. Can you tell me if there are also large sea bass?

    Excellent content! I also shoot with a GH5 underwater. I struggle with MF underwater. The outline (highlight) area that shows what is in focus is not easy to see underwater (green, blue, yellow are the color options). Any advice on using MF underwater? Cheers!

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tend to put the focus peaking colour to green for underwater stuff. There is also the focus zoom function before you start rolling which is handy. For filming people I will generally focus on my fins and then keep that distance away from people.
