      I saw it in a movie theater the day ot came out. Went to a matinee and had the place nearly to myself. Pretty fabulous! Especially the music . Their speakers were better than my TV. I am happy when a mainstream film is about a classical music figure. Even Bruno Zirato was a character, so they really tried. ( Zirato had been Caruso's private secretary and became the
      manager of the NY Phil. )

    This may be the most beautiful film that I have ever seen, and I am a film aficionado going all the way back to the creation of film in the 1890s. I see a comparison between the beauty of "Maestro" and the beauty of "Yentl," directed by Barbra Streisand. Both of these incredible directors have an impeccable aesthetic sense.

    This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Carey Mulligan...when "her Felicia" lost her temper and inflected her American speech with Latin American pace, passion and ferocity... sublime. Bradley Cooper is superb. I was blown away by both their performances. The skill, the craft is amazing. And then there's every single person who made this movie happen. Fantastic.

    Would’ve loved to see this on the big screen with Dolby sound especially during the orchestration scene and choir scene. Overall, Bradley did an incredible job. The attention to detail in terms of production design, costume, makeup, cinematography and of course score were all top-notch. And the performances of Bradley and especially Carey were nothing short of stunning.

      I love the film, but upon reflection I think the title is very misleading. It implies a lot and I understand why people may think it may be a lot more about the music than their relationship. I do think it was a much smarter and artistic choice to focus on their relationship but maybe a different title would have intrigued people more then.

    I thought this film was beautiful. It didn’t treat the audience as fools, so we weren’t fed everything piecemeal…. You can never capture a whole life, especially not a life as big, varied and complicated as Bernstein, so to focus on his relationship, I felt was perfect. We still had the big scenes where he created his genius for us to all hear. I’ve read some of the negative comments, some are subjective and we are allowed to have a difference of opinion. However, there are some that reflect badly on the author’s of the comments…. The way we are going in this world sadden’s me. I feel all real creativity will be molded into a sterile woke shadow of creativity. See beyond the words, feel with the actors the intensity, allow yourself to fly for a couple of hours….

No joke. I could hear Lenny roaring "Bern-STINE!", as he was wont to do when someone got it wrong. It seems as if evaluation of film, music, etc. is so shallow now that no one even seems to think these "little details" even matter. The comments section in one of these videos must have had a hundred furious comments about it - How COULD you? - but the damn creator, instead of correcting it or even apologizing for his utter ignorance and sloppiness, ran this stupid long rambling explanation about how the name was originally pronounced STEEN in Bavaria in 1619 or some such horseshit. This triggered even MORE furious comments, especially from me! Stein, Stein, *_STEIN!!_* Isn't it bloody obvious? As Lenny himself put it: "There is no Gertrude STEEN."

    A beautiful looking and sounding film but the script really was its weakest link. It felt as if it was written for those inside "Hollywood" Or those who had complete knowelege of Bernsteins life. The non musical scenes dragged on way too long taking up space where much more information could have been used to introduce a new generation to the man with actual information rather than a beautiful set. While 1984s Amadeus while a bit of a comedy it was well paced and educational to the point that anyone could understand Motzart more clearly. So this is a Beautiful film to look at its pace and script was actually, well .... Boring. And as for Cooper. This wasn't nearly his finest acting performance. More of an imitation at best. He did embody him physically however his acting left a lot to be desired. But like I said this film was made for Hollywood by Hollywood so I expect it to do well at the Oscars.

    Maestro is based on a false narrative about Bernstein. I posted a new video on my TH-cam channel titled THE BERNSTEIN EFFECT. I studied with one of his friends, Ivan Davis, who also performed with him. He's not who you think he is. Arts education was based on his teachings which are designed to make the conductors, pianists and composers stupid. This ruined classical music as an art form and a business. Most of classical recordings are vanity records, because of him. Many of the orchestras have a financial foundation based on criminal activity. They commit wire fraud by soliciting donations with false information. There's a massive amount of jealousy based mental illness, because of Bernstein's assault on arts education. I provide many examples of irrefutable evidence on this subject.

    For me, this was one of the most underwhelming and overhyped from the year.
    Near 2 1/2 hours of a story on his marriage and being gay or bisexual.
    After nearly one hour, I was getting frustrated. I didn’t care about his love story and about him being gay. I wanted more of his professional life.
    The voice Cooper put on to play Bernstein when he got older was annoying as hell. I looked up the real Leonard Bernstein, and he sounded nothing like that. I don't know how Cooper that the annoying mumbling crap he did was a good idea.
    Now, from a technical standpoint, the cinematography, the film editing, and the makeup were beautifully done. Carey Mulligan is the only one who gives the best performance in the film.
    Above all, the movie was a big disappointment for me.

    • @fiddleandfart
      @fiddleandfart 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that it was annoying that Bradley Cooper tbought it a good idea to change his voice for the older Bernstein; it was suddenly notable from the point in the garden where he was being interviewed, I think, and wearing cream or white. It was distracting...with that strange tonal change...and I have just listened to a video of the man himself giving a piano master class (probably in his 50's) when, as you say, his voice was nothing like that.. 🤔

    Whatever led these people to think that huge prosthetic nose made Cooper look like Bernstein? It makes him look like a clown. Is this some sort of emperor's new clothes thing? Denying the obvious because the truth would be too embarrassing? Or maybe it's the chain smoking that's supposed to do it. He looks NOTHING like Leonard Bernstein. And what's the point anyhow. I saw Oppenheimer and never worried about how close the actor looked like the character he was playing. That's because he was acting, while Cooper wasn't really acting at all, but simply doing some sort of clumsy impersonation. The whole film is an embarrassment. We've all seen films and videos of the real Bernstein and he was nothing like the clown Cooper plays him as. Instead of a bio pic about a great musician we get a hackneyed "love" story about a failed marriage and a long suffering wife. Sorry, but I've seen it before.

    • @fiddleandfart
      @fiddleandfart 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, all these barbs about the prosthetic nose are so wrong! Bernstein did indeed have a strong triangular nose, and the build on Cooper's own is not excessive. Smoking? Yes everyone smoked like hell back then - not least, Bernstein. And his complicated personal life, balancing his loves, loyalties, and personal demons actually happened. Is truth "hackneyed?" If it's true? This wasn't a soap. This is a sensitive, reverent, and outstandingly performed, photographed, and edited outline of a great man's demanding life!

    Really disappointing film after a star is born..Just didn't ring true or move the heart the way bernstein's music did..It was like a series of vignettes that didn't tie together..Mulligan's death scene was about it..She's always great..Next time bradley, stay behind the camera
