I recently had a fender bender with my 2019 Tacoma that knocked my grill off center. I received the same error message before taking my truck to the body shop. I mentioned the problem to my service writer. Three weeks later when I picked my truck up, it had been beautifully repaired. Unfortunately at highway speeds, the cruise control would shut off and I would get the same error message. This was on Friday so I was sure that my truck would be back in the shop for another week. I stumbled on this video, (after all, you can find an expert on anything these days on uTube!). This simple suggestion, which took me less than ten minutes completely solved my issue! The job required three small, thin washers, a step stool and a Philips screwdriver. I would never have believed it could be so easy and so completely solve this issue. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this genius solution. I use my truck for work and you saved me many frustrating hours of moving musical equipment a small rental car. Omg thank you! I just got a 2019 with this grill and the pre collision sensor and the cruise control has been driving me nuts. I took it to the dealership and they weren’t able to fix it so im going to see if this works

I complain it to TOYOTA Dealer, but out of Warranty not by miles but the Ages of my Trucks. Something Toyota needs to Fixed this Problem. Only my Opinion and my Self experience on my TOYOTA TACOMA.
I installed the pro grill and had the TSS error issue...was driving me crazy. I did exactly what you said...added a shim/washer and bam! First try! Fixed!! Thank you!!!
I just added the TRD Pro Grill to my 2021 Tacoma. The sensor light came on in the dash after driving a few miles. I am going to try adding a couple of washer and see if this works for me. Thanks
So I never get the error you showed in the video but I do get the one where it displays to brake while driving occasionally. Smdoes this fix that as well?
I’m sure you’ve gotten this solved already, but man, what a pain, 25 videos in and I haven’t found one that said Get “X and put it in front of Y” just RobMotive speculating about what might be causing a problem he’s never seen (2 videos!) and this guy at least has the answer though why you can’t tell me the size and thickness of the washer? I don’t know.
Not everyone gets this error after replacing the grille, one person who has installed a TRD type grille on three different Tacomas with the TSS has not run into this issue but he said he made sure the TSS sensor was fully seated on the plastic studs that use the press on lock washers. I hate radar cruise control anyway you end up behind someone not doing the speed limit and sometimes don't even realize it so you travel down the road under the speed limit for several miles before you notice.
Toyota told me that some people experienced the collision sensor malfunctioning when people recalibrated it as shown in video. They stated the break light would go on as if they were about to be in a collision. Did anyone experience malfunctions after long term use?
If u disconnect the sensor or the sensor is giving you dash error, this means the whole system is disconnected and disabled. so you are good. you just have to live with the error that keeps on popping. which is frustrating especially if the truck is new

OK, I put in 3 washers, and it worked for a while. It is broken now, I am going to try a different amount of washers, etc... and report back.

I put 3 10mm Washers. Went out on the road, and its totally fixed!

Just a thin washer that the top screw can go through.

What is the size of the washers ur using?
Start with the thinnest u can find. Maybe 1/8 hole and up. I don't remember. I do remember I needed 3.

tiny, id say 1/16th each. so if u use 1/8 it might work

Do you have an error even without using cruise control?
Sou Chao yes. If u did not properly tune the sensor; you will get the error regardless
@@alamray toyota supposedly recalibrated my sensor when i brought it in for the tss recall, but its still going off. Gonna try the washers tomorrow.
Sou Chao keep adding or removing washers til it works out. It took me several tries .. now no problem at all.

Why is it giving an error?
Radar alignment.
The Sensor needs to be angled upwards because of it having moving lower Before the fix= / - - - > (angled Down) After= \ - - - > (angled UP)
If anyone knows how to disable it entirely let me know. these sensors are dangerous. I dont care if I cant use cruise control without it.
