I don't have a problem with the defense, but i do have an issue with every player playing like a lockdown defender. You can't really tell the difference between defenders, because they all have the same style.

NBA 2K sadly lost me this year. I am a MyLeague gamer(HOF ONLY) and I cant get into the game anymore, there is no realism at all. CPU on steroids. I know before(past 2k games) they did seem alittle too easy but still seemed more realistic then now. I play MyLeague and no matter how good I play (win or lose) the other team outplays me somehow. I score basic good numbers shooting in the 50s or even 60s FG% and 40s for 3PTFG% and the other team always scoring in the 70s%, every game someone on the other team basically has a career game(including average, mediocre and bench players). Every opposing player is a lockdown defender while my teamates let there guy blow buy them or nail a 3. No matter how hard I try to lockdown on a certain player they will just pass the ball and my teammate will have little to no reaction on defense. Could barely dribble or pass without a deflection, ball getting stolen or losing my dribble in the most silly way. It seems anytime I deflect the ball in a play, it goes way the fuck out of bounce or across the court and anytime my opponents deflect the ball, it lands perfectly in their teammates hands... lol I love the game for the most part but the cpu mechanics are silly and not real in anyway. I like the challenge, but the cpu logic takes the fun out. Its my team (5 Brian Scalabrines) vs CPU (5 Kawhi Leonard's defense, with Ray Allens shooting touch, and LeBrons passing skills) with the same lineups coming off the bench 😂. Literally the ONLY way to beat most teams is to make more shots, not necessarily shoot better, just MAKE MORE SHOTS. CPU Shooting %'s will most likely always be better.

Every shot in the paint is contested even if you have a step on the defender, and then I just have a slightly early release and brick a shot from 2 feet away with a 7 footer. It’s just plain awful
I'm a casual player who watches basketball. I dont wanna play with smart IQ basketball with paying attention to almost all movement on court in every game just because I wanna play some bball. it really sucks the joy out. I can't play this while high now cause it's a death sentence in myleague
I miss the NBA live games from the 90s. Exactly like you explained. They were an awesome casual gamer friendly games. Now everything is esports complicated and I don't have time to learn all these moves and strats.
my main issue is cpu defense feels like a brick wall that’s the same width of the floor. can’t get through them or around them it’s annoying. so i have HoF lockdown defender on my created character in myleague (keep in mind this is an almost completely maxed out player i’m talking most ratings 85+ i play 2k differently lol) you’d think i get the same treatment right? not really. it’s hard for the cpu to get around me cleanly yes, however they always seem to be able to walk through me, if the cpu wants to move forward they will and i will slide backwards no matter what. it’s not even an animation, for whatever reason i am just this weightless paper player. they’ve somehow bumped their way within 15 feet and on HoF within 15 the ball is magnetized to the bucket for the cpu.
the computer is faster on defense u block a shot and slide to the side and the computer always recover quicker get the ball back easy layup they block your shot and they make u stand there
People in comments who are saying "you're trash" 100% bought VC. Having a 63 overall with 64 speed it's near impossible to beat your man even with a screen.

I don't mind defense being strong but when everyone on the court is playing DPOY level defense it's a problem if I come of a screen and get Nikolia Jokic to switch I should be able to blow by him or at least shift him multiple times without me losing the ball because he's standing in my vicinity that's ridiculous

God I agree. I'm a noob to 2K games. I use to play NBA live back in the days. Like late 90s. I miss how easy learning those games were. This game me and my bro miss like every shot and just get destroyed on Pro but Rookie is to easy. I know we have a lot to learn obviously but I wish they would knock it down just a little bit.

Not to be frustrated with useless gameplay modifications. 2k18s gameplay was fine the animations was great. Now in 2k19 they're just doing too much. Obviously I have no choice to adjust and get better, all I'm saying is that all these changes are unnecessary. Let’s see how many I can name. • impossible to get an open look from 3 • teammates refuse to move around / play off the ball, making it hard to make a play since they all just stand there • immediately smothered in the post while never getting a foul call • multiple missed free throws per game even with deadeye ft shooters like Curry or Harden • multiple missed layups per game even with players like LeBron and greek freak • every cpu defender plays like Scottie Pippen regardless of your size or speed advantage • players such as Andre Drummond and Hassan Whiteside dominate the game like Wilt Chamberlain • simulate a season in myleague and watch your team go 30-52 even when you’re top 10 in overall • cpu teams still play like it’s the 1980s, attempting 10-12 three pointers a game, even though in real life every team launches 30 per game • slow/laggy/choppy animations
Austin Skaggs this is what I don’t understand as well about this 2k. I have been playing 2k since “2k8” and me and my brother hated that, as it was extremely hard and difficult to make shots. Fast forward (2k9 was bullshit too), as 2k11 dropped I was by that time at least “intermediate” and knowledgeable enough that it showed I knew how to play. Fast forward 2k13, it got a bit more difficult or challenging but I would always play on “superstar” and win at least 40% to 45% of my games(as I played exhibition games for fun). 2k16 was my favorite, as I would lose some and win some, you know things I could live with. 2k17 there wasn’t much of a change. Now he’ll froze over when 2k18 came out. I had never gotten so frustrated with a 2k that much since nba 2k8, I mean the missed wide open good release shots, CPU making 99% of their 3-point attempts, it just wasn’t fun and that game literally sat all year last year as I hardly ever played it. Now here’s “Hell Freezes over 2.0”. This defense is so fucking sickening i can’t think of enough words to explain how infuriating this game makes me. I can’t even run a fucking pick & roll, running picks aren’t even possible from what I’m seeing, as the defending magically finds a way around it 98% of the time(which is not realistic at all. I really feel bad having wasted my last $33 on this game.

This comment was two months ago, I was bitching a lot obviously. But eventually I got the game down. I’ve mastered the pick&roll/pick&pop style. It’s hard to explain how to get better at the game, but my best advice is to play the way they do in real life. Up-tempo pace and space. The game is designed for that. If you try playing a slower isolation style, it ain’t gonna work. Don’t get me the wrong the game still has its issues, but my opinion has changed. If you want any advice, let me know. Austin Skaggs since typing my reply to you hours ago I played an exhibition game on “Pro Difficulty”, and after running the “smart play” option on offense I lost only by 5 points at the end of regulation. It was the first time I ever used plays the entire game, and besides some mess ups, I did very well overall I think 🤔🤷🏾♂️. I want to get a feel for the game before I go and start my “myplayer career”.

My only problem Is that literally everyone I play in Play now online uses Computer Defense. Forget stick skills. Dudes literally playing Offense only and off ball on defense it's annoying and not fun. If I wanted to play a computer I would have put play now on HOF. Mean while whole game I'm playing on ball guarding wings and switching when the ball gets passed. So who's really more skilled? Smh
Facts, no point in playing on ball defense when the CPU literally reads ur opponents every move. Everybody i play just sits in the paint with the center all game. So when i finally get past the CPU, they take away my layup smh
Big time tip: utilize the spin move and sometimes the fake spin because even if they don’t work you can use them to get closer to the basket. It’s also good to use the fake spin move to create space and trigger animations where the defender is preparing for a spin
At first I hated 2K19. But the more I played it, the more I realized how realistic it is! Yes there are instances where the CPU defense is OP but for the vast majority of the time, it can be beat with plays, screens/picks, and good ball movement. Just like in the real NBA!
🔥 video, protecting the ball is KEY vs a defender like a George Paul, etc which when added with just about any crossover as the a.i. will swipe for the ball allowing you to go around.
I like that I can't just go forward anymore but there are times where I just get pushed to the floor and turn it over I'm exaggerating but it does feel like fouls are allowed for the CPU but any type of contact is a foul on you

As a teacher and one who only plays against the CPU, I deeply appreciate that. I'm definitely going to try your Pick Tip, because it infuriates me when I call for a pick and, no matter who the defender is, he easily avoids it and stays in my face and leaves me no space to maneuver. As for the many comments I've read about how difficult it is Score and Defend at the Pro Level and up, I agree. In fairness, I will add that when I play on Pro, though it seems predetermined that I am going to lose some games, it seems to balance out. In a Semi-Finals Game, as the Kings, I got blown out by the Warriors in 2 games, but I won the other two (both of my wins were by 8 points or less). However, I had to switch to using my Custom Slider Settings for the "Win or Go Home" Game 5 because, even though I had home court, the AI had that predetermined deal going on and I was missing almost all my 3-Pointers, Open Shots, and Layups, while Steph Curry didn't miss any 3-Pointer or Driving Layup he took. Note: Even when I switched to Custom to replay Game 5, I still only won by 2, because DeMarcus Cousins missed an 8-Footer ... but it was still a much fairer game to me.
Yea I have to agree with what most people are saying in the comments. The enhanced defense would be more appropriate and satisfying if it was limited to only the top tier premier defenders of the league. Coming from someone whos bein playing 2k since 2k5, 2k19 is the worst 2k I’ve played. Especially because in real life defense isn’t like that anymore. The defense definitely should be toned down a bit in my opinion. I sold it i think it’s completely trash lol.

My problem is all my superstar getting injured always and players who are not supposed to be quick are quick all of a sudden in this game. Like the bigs quicker than my guards even in fastbreak.

What am I doing wrong??! The crossover does absolutely nothing to the guard. They are like glue on me. I’m pretty new to 2K. And I’m having a hard time breaking up the d.
Another way to attack the pick n roll is to protect the ball and when the pick comes, do a signature size up. Depending on how the Defender reacts to it you make the right move.
I hate the defense man. I’ll have J Crossover guarded by magic and the second I put the ball in front of myself it’s a steal EVERY time. I’m not saying he steals it sometimes, I’m saying if you put the ball down then the game assumes you should lose it, it makes no sense and makes it 2k not basketball.
I'm definitely not saying get better, but I do hate the number of missed open shots. I have literally recorded 1,000 open and 1,000 contested shots on paper. I had 58% with that player as opposed to the 41% of the open ones he missed. No difficult shots badge or anything to boost contested shots. Made sure no badges were in effect. Took forever, but I got the answer I was looking for. I think 2k throws random shit at you to "balance" the game in a forced way. It's why one player cant be hot a whole game though it happens almost nightly in the league in real life. My little brother always jokes "these guys are allergic to making to shots in a row". For most of our experience, it's rare to get even a star player to make his highest rated shot twice in a row unless it's a dunk or layup. Unless its Curry, but even his doubles are far less frequent than in previous xbox one titles.
Yeh good tips man. I usually use the pick and roll do a double crossover go towards the screen and the away from screen and boost out usually get a little bit of space to get off a midrange shot
I don't get why my crossovers are never effective :( after defenders start pressing me no dribble let's me take advantage on them, how can this be? i play on all star by the way

This is ridiculous. I gave up playing NBA 2K two years ago because I felt the defense had gotten unrealistically difficult and made it almost impossible to get a dunk in a game unless you steal the ball and got a fast break. I bought the game for Christmas, and I can't shake the defense for anything. I'm only playing on rookie, and I'm easily blowing out the cpu, but even with Lebron James and James Harden I'm having a really difficult time shaking average defenders.
I miss 2k17 😭 2k broke my heart shutting down the servers I'm so hurt I was near ss3 93%😭 since that's gone I'll never see another 2k again because 18 and 19 are trash and not balanced at all
My secret to beating cpus on hall of fame is to press pause at the very beginning of the game and changing the defensive setting to no off ball help and don't switch on screens because if you don't change that the cpus on your team will switch at the dumbest times and everyone on hall fame never misses a catch and shoot open 3 so it's better to have no help d to cover the 3 pointers at all times and also the point guard will then start to force up bad shots and usually end up shoot below 40 percent from the field even Steph Curry and James usually have bad shooting nights on hall of fame long as you do a decent enough job defensively on them, but Jerami Grant on OKC will drop 30 points very effeiciantly if you don't make sure to cover him at all times

honestly why do they keep upping the cpu defense? its unnecessary, if you really want the challenge then play of on HOF or Superstar, keep allstar balanced, then pro and rookie should be easy. as if they ever bring rookie difficulty back

God I agree. I'm a noob to 2K games. I use to play NBA live back in the days. Like late 90s. I miss how easy learning those games were. This game me and my bro miss like every shot and just get destroyed on Pro but Rookie is to easy. I know we have a lot to learn obviously but I wish they would knock it down just a little bit.
I’m just annoyed at the fact that they buffed the CPU’s AI to Kawhi defense levels and your team’s AI still plays like they’re on a middle school JV team :/
The crossover? It NEVER works... I don't have a problem with TO. But no one ever gets open. No dribble moves. No off ball screens. P&R is the only thing. But how boring is it to run that literally every time.

Not to be frustrated with useless gameplay modifications. 2k18s gameplay was fine the animations was great. Now in 2k19 they're just doing too much. The fact that there are multiple videos out on all of these issues should tell you how broken this gameplay is. Obviously I have no choice to adjust and get better, all I'm saying is that all these changes are unnecessary. You can't really have fun at this game unless you're like 90 plus rating and the only way to get to a 90 is to grind for a couple seasons or pay for vc which they want you probably bought some yourself. Okay, so that helps dribble moves for an iso situation. It won’t fix the rest of the countless issues. Let’s see how many I can name.
• impossible to get an open look from 3
• teammates refuse to move around / play off the ball, making it hard to make a play since they all just stand there
• immediately smothered in the post while never getting a foul call
• multiple missed free throws per game even with deadeye ft shooters like Curry or Harden
• multiple missed layups per game even with players like LeBron and greek freak
• every cpu defender plays like Scottie Pippen regardless of your size or speed advantage
• players such as Andre Drummond and Hassan Whiteside dominate the game like Wilt Chamberlain
• simulate a season in myleague and watch your team go 30-52 even when you’re top 10 in overall
• cpu teams still play like it’s the 1980s, attempting 10-12 three pointers a game, even though in real life every team launches 30 per game
• slow/laggy/choppy animations
Austin Skaggs this is what I don’t understand as well about this 2k. I have been playing 2k since “2k8” and me and my brother hated that, as it was extremely hard and difficult to make shots. Fast forward (2k9 was bullshit too), as 2k11 dropped I was by that time at least “intermediate” and knowledgeable enough that it showed I knew how to play. Fast forward 2k13, it got a bit more difficult or challenging but I would always play on “superstar” and win at least 40% to 45% of my games(as I played exhibition games for fun). 2k16 was my favorite, as I would lose some and win some, you know things I could live with. 2k17 there wasn’t much of a change. Now he’ll froze over when 2k18 came out. I had never gotten so frustrated with a 2k that much since nba 2k8, I mean the missed wide open good release shots, CPU making 99% of their 3-point attempts, it just wasn’t fun and that game literally sat all year last year as I hardly ever played it. Now here’s “Hell Freezes over 2.0”. This defense is so fucking sickening i can’t think of enough words to explain how infuriating this game makes me. I can’t even run a fucking pick & roll, running picks aren’t even possible from what I’m seeing, as the defending magically finds a way around it 98% of the time(which is not realistic at all. I really feel bad having wasted my last $33 on this game.

hey man, just give it time. You’ll get the hang of it after enough experience. This comment was two months ago, I was bitching a lot obviously. But eventually I got the game down. I’ve mastered the pick&roll/pick&pop style. It’s hard to explain how to get better at the game, but my best advice is to play the way they do in real life. Up-tempo pace and space. The game is designed for that. If you try playing a slower isolation style, it ain’t gonna work. Don’t get me the wrong the game still has its issues, but my opinion has changed. Austin Skaggs since typing my reply to you hours ago I played an exhibition game on “Pro Difficulty”, and after running the “smart play” option on offense I lost only by 5 points at the end of regulation. It was the first time I ever used plays the entire game, and besides some mess ups, I did very well overall I think 🤔🤷🏾♂️. I want to get a feel for the game before I go and start my “myplayer career”.

Facts, no point in playing on ball defense when the CPU literally reads ur opponents every move. Everybody i play just sits in the paint with the center all game. So when i finally get past the CPU, they take away my layup smh
I hate when I click the steal button my player jumps on the other players back.
Im also complaining that everytime a player dribbles near two of my defenders and they automatically go for the steal and gets me a reach in foul 🙁
Trilly facts cpu get me foul trouble more than I do.
Big time tip: utilize the spin move and sometimes the fake spin because even if they don’t work you can use them to get closer to the basket. It’s also good to use the fake spin move to create space and trigger animations where the defender is preparing for a spin
At first I hated 2K19. But the more I played it, the more I realized how realistic it is! Yes there are instances where the CPU defense is OP but for the vast majority of the time, it can be beat with plays, screens/picks, and good ball movement. Just like in the real NBA!

🔥 video, protecting the ball is KEY vs a defender like a George Paul, etc which when added with just about any crossover as the a.i. will swipe for the ball allowing you to go around.
I like that I can't just go forward anymore but there are times where I just get pushed to the floor and turn it over I'm exaggerating but it does feel like fouls are allowed for the CPU but any type of contact is a foul on you

I'm definitely going to try your Pick Tip, because it infuriates me when I call for a pick and, no matter who the defender is, he easily avoids it and stays in my face and leaves me no space to maneuver.
As for the many comments I've read about how difficult it is Score and Defend at the Pro Level and up, I agree. In fairness, I will add that when I play on Pro, though it seems predetermined that I am going to lose some games, it seems to balance out. In a Semi-Finals Game, as the Kings, I got blown out by the Warriors in 2 games, but I won the other two (both of my wins were by 8 points or less). However, I had to switch to using my Custom Slider Settings for the "Win or Go Home" Game 5 because, even though I had home court, the AI had that predetermined deal going on and I was missing almost all my 3-Pointers, Open Shots, and Layups, while Steph Curry didn't miss any 3-Pointer or Driving Layup he took.
Note: Even when I switched to Custom to replay Game 5, I still only won by 2, because DeMarcus Cousins missed an 8-Footer ... but it was still a much fairer game to me.
Do some players not have those fast crossovers when moving from side to side? I get a slow af cross when I move to the side and cross to the off hand.
Yea I have to agree with what most people are saying in the comments. The enhanced defense would be more appropriate and satisfying if it was limited to only the top tier premier defenders of the league. Your video was very insightful, no less, and are the same exact tips I’ve created for myself over the course of playing the game
Coming from someone whos bein playing 2k since 2k5, 2k19 is the worst 2k I’ve played. Especially because in real life defense isn’t like that anymore. The defense definitely should be toned down a bit in my opinion. I sold it i think it’s completely trash lol.

Appreciate the video and I know I'm mad late but it's kinda bs how the cpu can do whatever they want and your basically lucky to get a clean steal no matter how well you time your reach with them coming out of a crossover I mean I've legit had the ball go through my hand yet the players with the worst steal ratings in the game will pick your pocket clean smh

Everybody wad complaining about this defense now it's no defense to be found in 2k nowadays.
Another way to attack the pick n roll is to protect the ball and when the pick comes, do a signature size up. Depending on how the Defender reacts to it you make the right move.
I hate the defense man. I’ll have J Crossover guarded by magic and the second I put the ball in front of myself it’s a steal EVERY time. I’m not saying he steals it sometimes, I’m saying if you put the ball down then the game assumes you should lose it, it makes no sense and makes it 2k not basketball.
The same ones telling us to just get better are the same people that complain about players missing open shots 😂😂
I'm definitely not saying get better, but I do hate the number of missed open shots. I have literally recorded 1,000 open and 1,000 contested shots on paper. I had 58% with that player as opposed to the 41% of the open ones he missed. No difficult shots badge or anything to boost contested shots. Made sure no badges were in effect. Took forever, but I got the answer I was looking for. I think 2k throws random shit at you to "balance" the game in a forced way. It's why one player cant be hot a whole game though it happens almost nightly in the league in real life. My little brother always jokes "these guys are allergic to making to shots in a row". For most of our experience, it's rare to get even a star player to make his highest rated shot twice in a row unless it's a dunk or layup. Unless its Curry, but even his doubles are far less frequent than in previous xbox one titles.
This is gonna help ALOT. Especially against the warriors. Man I hate playing against them

Yeh good tips man. I usually use the pick and roll do a double crossover go towards the screen and the away from screen and boost out usually get a little bit of space to get off a midrange shot

This is ridiculous. I gave up playing NBA 2K two years ago because I felt the defense had gotten unrealistically difficult and made it almost impossible to get a dunk in a game unless you steal the ball and got a fast break. I bought the game for Christmas, and I can't shake the defense for anything. I'm only playing on rookie, and I'm easily blowing out the cpu, but even with Lebron James and James Harden I'm having a really difficult time shaking average defenders.

My secret to beating cpus on hall of fame is to press pause at the very beginning of the game and changing the defensive setting to no off ball help and don't switch on screens because if you don't change that the cpus on your team will switch at the dumbest times and everyone on hall fame never misses a catch and shoot open 3 so it's better to have no help d to cover the 3 pointers at all times and also the point guard will then start to force up bad shots and usually end up shoot below 40 percent from the field even Steph Curry and James usually have bad shooting nights on hall of fame long as you do a decent enough job defensively on them, but Jerami Grant on OKC will drop 30 points very effeiciantly if you don't make sure to cover him at all times
