- BLHeliSuite has problems. For one thing, it only runs on Windows. And its approach to handling multiple ESCs is a little cumbersome. Now there's a BLHeli Configurator GUI Chrome App. The interface is optimized and since it's a Chrome app, it'll run on any of the major operating systems. I'll show you where to get this app and give you a quick tour of what it can do.

I can confirm that indeed you can flash multishot on regular Blheli escs (tested on my Littlebee 20A pro)
I've been on here and flashed my spedix 4in1 esc and have set everything up on betaflight and it's arming but when increase throttle it is either idle or full speed? Do you know what is wrong? Everything seems to be correct?
How can i tell if my esc is blheli s or 32 or whatever cause i havent been able to find anything saying what mine is its the mamba f40 by diatone and i need to reverse 2 of my motors but not sure witch one to use cause i cant find any info on it
You can flash DShot 16.43 test firmware from the Configurator just like any other release.

What is the future architecture roadmap for all this fundamental software when chrome apps are no more for other OS platforms ?
The chrome apps were a complete godsend for being platform agnostic, and now it's going away!?!

I'm having slow throttle response coming out of a dive (i.e., S-turn over an object and increasing throttle when coming under it) and I've isolated the problem to maybe 3 things: ESC protocol, motors, and weight of quad. I've already tested weight of quad - that is, with and without go pro, so minus ~130g - and that doesn't help save my quad from turning into a pancake. I'm also pretty sure the motors aren't the problem (emax 2205 2300kv red bottoms) since this problem has only appeared recently.
I'm more leaning my problems to the multishot protocol. I just downloaded this chrome app you recommended above since I've never actually used BlHeli Suite, and noticed my min ppm command was at 1020us, where on the BFC my min throttle is 1070. Could this discrepancy result in slow throttle response and/or no power for the problem I mentioned above?

min_throttle does not correspond to PPM_min. Min_command corresponds to PPM_min. In my experience a min_command of 1000 typically calibrates to a PPM_min around 1016.
Multishot shouldn't make your copter weaker, but who knows. Maybe if you have older ESCs they are struggling with the high interrupt rate of multishot. If the issue started recently, figure out what changed around the time the issue started.
hmm, the esc's are brand new actually - tbs bulletproof 25amp. i hooked it up to the esc config and it turns out the firmware was out of date. that is, it was running 16.3 instead of 16.6. think that could be an issue?

Can you talk about how firmware updates work for BLHELI_S? Are there no longer hardware-specific targets? Can I just assume that bigger number = newer = better?
There definitely are still hardware-specific targets. Always flash the same target that came on your ESC, unless you have a very good reason to do otherwise. The GUI will tell you what is on your ESC and automatically choose the same thing when upgrading. But this is how it's worked on BLHeliSuite for a long time.

Glad it's not on purpose, it's a minor annoyance but if I didn't like your channel so much I would consider unsubscribing. Please try to fix and keep that content coming :)
I've just run a bulk edit to enable embedding on all of them. Like I said, I have no idea why it's sometimes turned off on some videos.

Hello Joshua, Good Video! When I tried to connect everything goes well but when I click in Read Setup nothing happends. I got a Mini Magnum 2 F4 and I need to change the rotation of the motors as all of them are spinning to the right side. Any suggestion? Thanks very much!
Change direction by swapping any two motor wires from the motor where it connects. To the ESC.
Hi Joshua, I have the wizard x220. in the blheli do i have to change the 4 and 1 esc to Reverse or leave them all on normal ? The settings are ok propellers as well and the x220 does't fly stays on the ground.. thanks in advance

hi Joshua and thanks for your feedback. I had a broken esc and replaced all with new ones. by factory all was normal. for the propellers I place the ones with the R to the ones with the hole in the motor. so I suppose I'm correct right ?
everything is good but one thing now I got little bee 30s and when I go to do some flips is cool but sometimes when I lower the Throttle Down something goes wrong it's really only when I do flips and rolls. it just looses controller I think one motor doesnt throttle back up and it crashes I can't get anything to happen when I got it in my hand it's been driving me nuts though. I just switched to betaflight with a sp racing f3 and I was using a cc3d and librepilot it was do I doing the same thing with cc3d. I have it so the motors don't turn off when I throttle all the way down because of this problem and I have the minimum set pretty high so it does happen like 1076 I think it plenty low. when it bumps the grown landing a little hard I see the left front motor stop really quick and start back up really quick though. sorry for writing a book to you but your the only one that has helped me . please let me know what you think .
Can this program invert the input polarity like BlHeliSuite can?
Joshua i see that the max throttle on your escs is above 2000. I calibrated my escs and in blheli suite they have 2008, but in betaflight the max is at 2000. That means im not getting the maximum throttle possible?
+ashingashinga if you calibrated then everything is as it should be. The difference in numerical value is because you're using an analog protocol. The whole point of calibration is to compensate for differences in the analog circuits between the ESC's and the FC. If it were as simple as entering the same number both places, then calibration woukdnt be needed, which, incidentally, is how dshot works.
Thanks. On another quad, after trying several calibration atempts, always only one esc is diferent, sometimes 2 escs. 3 are on 2012, and one on 2008. Should i leave it like that?
Yes. That's the whole point of the calibration. As long as all ESCs are below 2020, and as long as no ESC is too far off from the others (like, less than 20 us difference between all of them), then everything is fine.
Josh, I used this and mistakenly flashed my Diatone Oneshot 42 Heli S 202X escs with 16.6 when they were reading 16.45. Now only motors 1 and 4 are visible. 2 and 3 have disappeared. What did I do? can you help me please?
+roland burrows if you are using the chrome app, use blhelisuite instead. The chrome app still has some trouble in my experience.
Josh, I used the blhelisuite on a windows computer (much easier!) and the 2 and 3 escs were not recognized. Are they damaged? I am desperate please.

Every time i go to Flash my ESCs on The Chrome App ( Mac ) one of the ESC Seems to other died and diapers form the List in the app .
and Obviously the motor doesn't Spin-up any more ...
so this happened On Motor (ESC 1 )
I swiped the ESC then decided to flash All on the Same FW ... now ESC 4 (Motor 4) Seem to have died ...

Try using BLhelisuite instead of the chrome app to flash them.

Josh, I just tried flashing one of my xm20a via the configurator but the progress bar during flashing just sat there when it was 25% through. I had to manually turn off the app. and now ESC1 will not work. I have no clue on what to do.
Most likely it isn't bricked. Try to re-flash it. If it is bricked you need to re-flash it using the C2 interface.

What is A_H_15 i have some 30Amp Little Bee BLHELI-S ESCs and they come up as this i was thinking that the 15 was for 15 amps but it doesnt seem like that is true?
The final number relates to the FET dead-time.
I did does it matter what one or is it the first one one the pop down screen where you select firmware. Im running the kombini on beta flight will that be an issue and will the aikon sefm 20a be a problem. I read only the 30amp the i read all sefm are compatible. Just playing it safe. Sorry for all the questions
I don't know if Kombini supports Dshot right now. Dshot is not even in beta yet. Even when Dshot is available, it may have major bugs.
You must only flash the correct firmware to your ESCs or you risk smoking them. Make sure you are flashing the same firmware type to your ESCs that is already on them. The BLHeli app may enforce this, but you should confirm to be sure.

hey Josh question, I flashed my escs and worked awesome, but I set 2 of my motors reversed but there not reversed and ideas why? I power cycled and everything. read escs and there still checked for reversed
Swap two motor wires on the motors that need to be reversed. Or un-check "reversed" and they will go the other direction. Probably what happened is you didn't solder the motor wires the same way on all four motors.
Joshua Bardwell I have been flying for a while in had two swapped on two motors originally when I built the quad I flashed the Escs and even though to wires are switched it still like before even though I have reversed checked after I flashed them I just don't want to go back and swap two wires again even though they're already swapped I just figured I would be able to reverse in configurator just started using it. basically I had motors spinning proper direction prior to flashing them, now I flashed escs newest firmware but it's acting as two motors don't have swapped wires so instead of swapping again I reverse in config and even tho I have them reversed in config they all spin the same way

+Love 3D download the BLHeli GUI chrome app. You can flash the dshot firmware from there.

By turning them off or on does it affects the characteristic of the quad flys..?

Brake on stop is for gliders with collapsible props. Braking the prop when the throttle is at zero stops the prop from windmilling and allows it to fold up. On quadcopters it has the kind of cool effect where the props stop dead as soon as you disarm, but on the flip-side, it can result in desync-like effects if your throttle goes too low in the air. I don't recommend that multirotors run it.

Make sure you have the "passthrough" interface selected from the Interface menu.
For BLHeli_32, you must be using BLHeliSuite32, which is a separate download from regular BLHeliSuite.
Sometimes mine won't read the ESCS after using Betaflight. Simply re-plugging the usb usually fixes it.
Hello Joshua I’m trying with bl heli Suite to change the startup sounds of my drone to game of thrones .... my problem is it doesn’t work let me write my steps that I make :
I opened suite then on silabs connected - perfectly I saw all settings of my esc - then I flashed all my 4 escs to 16.65 fm after that I wrote this setup disconnect connect it again perfectly again I heared the new standard startup sounds and then i get the number to 93 I guess ( i don’t know , I’m actually not home ) and again then wrote setup and disconnect - what I heard was the same startup sound - first I thought that the settings was not saved but I reconnected it again the number was on 93 - I have a eachine f3 fc flytower with an 4in1 10A esc : F_H_40 , the Motors are the 1104 6500 kv Realacc orange 85 and the works fine ;) hope u can help me and sorry my English I know it’s bad , hope u understand me

Hi Joshua, I couldn't figure a way to contact you, so I guess this is as good a place as any to ask if you could do a video on the pros vs cons of reversing the motor directions, I've been seeing some posts that say it keeps the props from plastering the fpv lens with everything, and some say that it actually improves the performance of the quad because the rear props get "cleaner air"....one con I see with just reversing the motors in BLHeli Config and swapping props, is that the props nuts are no longer right and could back off, so to do it right you would have to actually change the motor location on the quad...anyway I thought it might be an interesting "experiment" for you to try!
+Michael Chapin not throwing grass on the camera is true. Instead it throws grass on the FC stack. Flight benefits are mixed. Some people say it makes a big difference, some say it makes none. For the nuts, just use nylock and standard thread and it'll be fine.

Google has stopped supporting Chrome apps.
I did find a standalone Mac version on gethub.
Can you please make the update in-depth. Trying to use this with my Mobula 7 to update the firmware. The quad keeps detaching from the controller and the only way to get it working again is to power cycle. I thought it might be the motors D syncing?
Also want to learn about the other motor settings. Like lost.

This doesn't work at all with SimonK ESCs. It only works with BLHeli ESCs. SimonK may have some kind of passthrough functionality as well, but I don't know about it.

I have retried connecting several times including rebooting Window 10 getting the same result each time. The weird part about this is that it worked 5 minutes before my first attempt but now refuses to connect. Totally baffled any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey JB just saw this video after the last one I wrote you on.. This is the app I used on my Mac to Update My HOBBY WING xrotor ESC with blheli S. All went well up dated from A-H 16.6 to 16.7 but 2 of the tabs show the update with a bunch of ???????.?????. The other 2 show the appropriate firmware
I tried reflashing the 2 and it won’t take or give me the option to flash.now I’m really lost.. never had this happen and it’s normally so easy..
If you are getting ????? try flashing the CORRECT FIRMWARE (A-H) using the "ignore incorrect hardware" option.

My quad disconnects from the BLHeli configurator when I connect the battery, can anyone tell me why?
I cant get blheli configurator or betaflight to connect to my quad, I loaded all the drivers but its just all confusing to me. Is it supposed to be as simple as download the program and the plug it in and go? this is the error code I get on BLHeli (This firmware version is not supported. Please upgrade to firmware that supports api version 1.16.0 or higher. Use CLI for backup before flashing. CLI backup/restore procedure is in the documention) Is there somthing Im doing wrong or is this a complicated procedure that no one has made any how-to video on
You downloaded the drivers. Did you actually run the installer?

Ok I found your other video explaining a bit more. I just used the zadig program and rebooted my computer but it doesn't say dfu its not even reading a com port now. This stuff is hurting my brain lol your help is very much appreciated

You don't need to use Zadig unless you are trying to flash the board. And when you use Zadig, you install it over the STM32 Bootloader device, not the STM32 Virtual COM Port Device. If you install it on the STM32 Virtual COM Port device, as you did, then you screw up the driver. This is why you don't see a COM port any more.
Plug in the quad.
Go to the Device Manager and uninstall the STM32 Virtual COM Port Device.
Reboot.
Reinstall the CP210 and Virtual COM Port drivers.
If you have done everything correctly, then you should see COM3 (or some other number) when you plug in the USB port.
If, at this point, you cannot connect to the board, possibly you flashed the wrong target to the board. Have you flashed the board or is it factory default as delivered?
its factory, its an x-racer v2.1 board. Ill try and reset it all tomorrow. building the quad was great but this computer stuff has me all turned around
i have changed my openpilot to cleanflight.open blhelisuite set the boot and com port tap connect.it says failed check version cleanflight for support single wire passthrough.i try blheli chrome app fails to connect.

yes. i am new at this but trying so much to learn.i screwed up my escs somehow trying to change over to librepilot then trying to program with tx ended up reversing them im so stupid should have left it was flying great on openpilot.30a cicadas emax redbottoms.the atom mini flight controller on it.
Well passthrough should work, but if they are in some state where they don't work, the fallback is to flash them directly via the signal wire and an Arduino, or even via the C2 interface. You can always flash via the C2 interface, but it is a bit of a hassle.

You don't have to flash them if you don't want to. But new firmware sometimes offers new features and performance enhancements.

so where do you calibrate the ESCs on this I don't see the motor tab in this and so should I make the numbers on the end points and the minimum all the same there is no way of using this like the beta motor tap I thought the end points were supposed to be a little different or the minimum start up one of them idk the right way to say it PLEASE HELP I got nobody else. And most of the time I can't get all 4 esc to show up on this app sometimes only one shows HELP Me!!! no one flies drones around here where I live I can't get the other blheli to work for me at all but this kind of does
This app doesn't have a Motors tab for configuration. Just configure manually using Cleanflight or Betaflight Configurator.

So I did get everything the same in the chrome blheli app though all the numbers are the same I hope that's ok if the ESCs r all the same I never got them all to show up at the same time so I had to keep turning it off and on till I got them all one by one and saved them. So one more question are they all suppose to be the same? And I really appreciate you answering me the last question

this app never works for me, always swapping wires
For some reason the configurator is not working for me, I open it, plug in the bat, and I get a frozen page. I am running the naze32 on betaflight with ztw flash blheli_s.

Are you suppose to use “break on stop” feature? Does anyone use it?
Brake on stop is really not for quadcopters. It's most applicable to gliders that have a folding prop and need the motor to stop freewheeling in the wind so the prop can fold back.
So how about when Google shuts down all chrome apps for PC? I don't see this as a future proofed

Developers have plans to bring their apps forward. This problem will be addressed. Anyway, that's more than a year off, so enjoy for the mean time.

Hi, I am getting an issue where it almost connects to my escs but then it will say connection failed, be sure that you have the correct serial port.
