    for Micro Four Thirds you can get a few adapters to give one or the other function and a couple that give both. There's tilt shift and tilt only mounts for m42 film lenses to MFT and there's tilt adapters, shift adapters and a fotodiox tilt/shift adapter for EF to MFT (although you will need to find a lens with manual aperture as you loose all electronic connections).

    These lenses can be useful in avoiding reflections, such as when shooting into a mirror you can keep yourself out of the picture. I had both Nikon shift lenses back in my film days. They came in handy.

    Depending on the nose of that lens I would bet lens flare could be a problem from time-to-time. The Panasonic 7-14 which is an excellent lens in many ways, has occasional reflections from lights and such that get into the image if you are not careful. It is however, a really excellent lens if you know how to use it. As for tilt shift, IF you shoot really wide, wider than you want to, and pay attention to where the crop would be when you fix it in lightroom, you can get some nice images. As you mentioned, and you are correct, you do not want to be excessively off on the verticals or you won't be able to fix it. I pay attention to being as level and vertical as possible with any wide angel lens, however, if one aims a sufficiently wide angle lens downward a bit and then straightens vertical things in ligttroom one can emphasize the foreground in ways that would not be possible except with a tilt/shift lens, it makes a very nice effect. One can use it to emphasize floors in architectural settings as well. Using wide angle lenses is an art unto itself. (You can even give some people who deserve it a big nose.)

    Shift is so usefull with wide angle lenses if you shoot landscapes or architecture. I hope all my lenses from 24mm on (full frame or equivalent) had shift feature. I could use a MFT wide shift too, if there was any.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is useful for some work. Unfortunately there is no MFT shift lens.

    thanks for the video. very helpful for me to understand the shift lens. About 15mm super wide angle, i personally think it's not really a good lens for architecture. Because it doesn't give a real feeling of the space. i take picture for my interior projects. If the situation allows, i try to stay around 30-35mm. the maximum i could go with the 8-18mm micro 4/3 is 20-24mm equivalent full frame, under 24mm, it's not anymore a honest presentation of the project. The solution of using Shift lens for panoramic picture is great for very tall or large building (i could love to try, but with a 30mm shift lens).

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. True, 15mm is really wide and you might want another slightly narrower to accompany that, maybe 28mm or 35mm.

      @@mattisulanto anyway, 15 shift lens without distortion, that's really crazy. Making a video in a church with it then crop a little bit the very deformed part around the edges. wow everything will be in the video (who care about the perspective ;° just wow :)

      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. There is a list of available mounts in the video at 0:44 and the lens I had for a review was for the L mount, which can't be adapted to MFT. You might be able to use the Canon EF version on the G9 with Viltrox.

    Nice lens. Would love to see some shift lenses for mft too, or the camera tilting the sensor to correct 🤔. With todays ibis this should be feasible with reducing the ibis directions by one axis

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. The sensor should be shifting, not tilting and that would require a lens, that has large enough image circle.

    • @mattisulanto

      That kind of camera is much more versatile than a tilt/shift lens, but also much more cumbersome to use. I used a 4x5 monorail camera a lot in the 80s and 90s for all kinds of commercial work.

    I wouldn't call 15mm super wide angle in MFT terms. This is true for FF. While 15mm seems to be the shortest available focal length it is too narrow for typical architectural shots. As you stated, the Canon TS lens is 17mm. If we had a TS lens for MFT with somewhere in the 8 - 10mm region.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course it's not a super wide for MFT and I did not say that. This is a FF lens and not even available for MFT.

    • @mattisulanto

      This is a shift lens, not a tilt-shift. I don't think either can be called conventional or non conventional, they are just different lenses.

    Be careful, there is an error in this video. Your lens should be attached to the tripod and when you pan your camera should move, not your lens. If you move your lens, you change the point of view and therefore, you will not be able to match the different images to make your panorama. In your video, you can do it because your subject is far away, but if you had an object in the foreground, you wouldn't be able to stitch your images together. Laowa took out an accessory to attach the lens to the tripod.

      I was careful. I didn't fall even though it was a bit slippery😂 and I chose a distant subject. Thanks for your comment.
