    I'm probably the only person who liked this game. It reminded me of The Haunting of Hill House series. There are horror elements, but in the end, it's about the human condition. The monsters are grief and fear and anger. I know this premise has been done, but there's something that really hit me hard at the end knowing that Andrew had been re-exploring Little Hope trying his best to save his family all over again, since he was unable to do so when he was a kid. And, at the end, remembering his loved ones and realizing he did everything he could, helped him to forgive himself and move on. I don't think the progress through the game was a waste because, in a way, we're helping Andrew save his family one last time.

  • @TheManofThings777
    @TheManofThings777 3 ปีที่แล้ว +134

    I'm conflicted. On one hand, it definitely cheapens the relationships that we, the audience, create with the characters, but overall the message of accepting that what happened to Anthony wasn't his fault is pretty hard-hitting.

    • @girl1213
      @girl1213 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Well...we know these characters as Anthony knew them best. He's the only one left who remembers them, so really it was never about us the players creating relationships with the characters, but us creating the relationship between them and Anthony. How bad or good those relationships were as he remembers them determines his decision to die or live on. Anthony was on the verge of suicide and we players have to save him through those memories: that's the end goal, just like in Man of Medan, and even in Until Dawn. We must save those who are alive, we can't save the dead.

      How? They're fictional, but none the less how? They are just rolled into one person & presented to you in a different image. It should strengthen your affinity for those characters knowing they're gone. That's how you know a game is good, you said it yourself you formed an attachment.

    Many people HATES the endings of this game, many say that those were "5 hours being wasted" it just simply proves the point that people care too much about the main characters and the antagonists but not the real purpose of the story, people rather want to accept that the death of a person gives an ending, which most of the time is the antagonist's, people HATES the death of a story for a reason. People thinks that all the progress you made from the start is just a big lie and stop to that thought without digging deeper, but think about it more carefully...the characters in the story actually made no progress in this case because they don't exist, but you, the player, you actually did progress, if you didn't realize it, that's just on you. In those 5 hours you learned a lesson which is, that sometimes we have to give up what happend in the past and leave it in the past so that we can move forward, one step back to make two forward. We have ups and downs many times in our lives, but each time it's on us to decide to restart again for the better. The protagonist? He had an awful past but in the end he accepts that it was all an accident and that he has to move forward to actually live, Vince's advice to never come back to Little Hope, is a good one, why stay in a place that messes with your head since the only thing it gives to you is just pain? Stay away from it, start from 0 again and you'll reach the best goal, have a good life

      its very possible. the way I see it even if he was suffering from hallucinations, it must in some way work similar to dreams. the more information from the outside you consume the more "juice" you give your dreams to run on. the overall message isnt lost though. the witch trials were a vehicle for the bus driver to give himself some kind of closure for the past, even if on the outside it seems nonsensical.

    Buat yg belum ngerti jalan ceritanya nih gue jelasin jelas dan singkat aja :
    Sebenarnya si Andrew adalah Anthony yg berusia 66 tahun. Di Sepanjang game Gak ada sama sekali temannya yg bernama Daniel, Angela, Taylor, dan dosennya si John serta para monster yang mengejar mereka. Itu cuma halusinasinya si Anthony/Andrew aja. Jadi, Andrew/Anthony adalah si sopir bus yg mengalami kecelakaan dan cuma dia sendiri yg berjalan di kota Little Hope. Hal ini dibuktikan di menit-menit akhir video game.
    Halusinasinya disebabkan karena ia depresi akibat kematian semua keluarganya karena kebakaran di awal game dan ia sering membaca buku fiksi tentang penyihir. Itulah mengapa teman-teman dari si Andrew/Anthony ini wajahnya mirip dengan keluarganya yang sudah meninggal dan juga mirip dengan orang-orang masa lalu di kota Little Hope beserta kisah-kisahnya yang ternyata hanyalah cerita karangan si Anthony/Andrew belaka.
    Lalu kenapa kota Little Hope kosong? Itu karena akibat dari penutupan pabrik tekstil yang merupakan perekonomian utama di kota tersebut, akhirnya mau tidak mau penduduk disana harus pindah ke luar kota yang mengakibatkan kota Little Hope menjadi terbengkalai.
    Siapa Vince dan Apa hubungannya dengan Andrew/Anthony? Sebenarnya Vince adalah pacar dari Tanya (Kakak perempuan dari Anthony dan Megan) dia tidak terima dengan kematian pacarnya akibat kebakaran rumah yang terjadi dan menganggap serta menuduh Andrew/Anthony sebagai pelakunya.
    Hantu anak kecil si Marry yang sering nge-jumpscare merupakan perwujudan dari Megan (Adik Anthony/Anak kecil di awal game) yang sebenarnya mengalami gangguan mental akibat tertekan oleh keluarga Anthony yg selalu mengucilkan dan menganggap dirinya berteman dengan Hantu.
    Sosok bayangan yg dibelakang Megan di awal game merupakan gambaran dari seorang Pendeta yang dipanggil oleh orang tuanya untuk mengusir hantu sekaligus menyembuhkan dirinya yang dimana saat proses pengobatannya pendeta tersebut selalu bersikap kasar dan mengancam Megan untuk tutup mulut agar tidak menceritakannya kepada orang lain.
    Kebayang gak sih, udah main capek-capek sampe mau jantungan ehh... ternyata tokoh utamanya cuma halu doang.
    Untung gw cuma nonton dan terbantu dgn Spoiler Jumpscare dari para netijen wkwkwk

    I think I can see how it would have been a good ending. If they hinted at the bus driver more and dropped hints that linked Andrew to being the bus driver, it would have made more sense. It doesn't have to be in your face obvious (better if it isn't), but one tiny clue here and there would make the ending make more sense. But the glaring plot hole is Megan talking to a demon and then killing her whole family. It was quite clear that she wasn't all there and that she planted the doll by the burner on purpose. She even locked her mom and sister out of the house for crying out loud!
    All that they'ed need to do to get rid of the glaring plot hole is make Megan normal and put the doll next to the burner unintentionally and then your problems are solved. I still wish that what they saw was real; it would make for a better payoff and reward the player for their efforts in keeping everyone alive.
    That said, great story and much better than the previous ones.

    • @pernilleinstitches

      I dont think it needs to be explained with realism. Until Dawn was supernatural and I personally didn't leave that game with any questions. If the supernatural element makes sense in itself, I don't believe the player will leave the game confused. The whole psychological spin on the ending erases most of the game and it also erases the cool element that could have been them stuck in a loop of reincarnation or witch craft and demons.

    • @deaconblackfire2896
      @deaconblackfire2896 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bullshit. It being supernatural would have left far fewer questions.
      Why did Vince only get angry later in the day, why did he offer a drink to the man that presumably burnt his girlfriend to a crisp, then only later get so enraged as to follow him around the rest of the day? If he is so angry at him, why didn't he throw out a single accusation or even something relating to the incident? How could he meet his girlfriend's supposed killer and not say a word that would break the illusion?
      Did the Little Hope Witch Trials even happen? And if so were any of the accused actually doppelgangers? If the Witch Trials never happened what was in the museum and on all the tour guides? What the hell has the protagonist been staring at this entire time? And what actually caused Megan to burn the house down? She clearly was instructed to do so, what's the explanation there if not something relating to witchcraft? Did the Carver family exist? Is the town a ghost town or not? Has the protagonist been walking around a town full of people without being confronted once? What bus company could continue to exist in a town with no gas station or people, the Ferriman bus company was shown to be from Little Hope. Did Tanya actually have that book on magick? And if the Witch Trials didn't happen why are there magick marks on so many different objects around town?
      If the police found enough evidence to immediately exonorate Anthony of causing the fire within such little time that it was reported alongside the initial report of the fire itself, why was this evidence kept secret? Why do Vince and presumably the rest of the town condemn him? They not only have the doll that spread the fire, they have the fact he ran back into the fire, the key on the outside of the locked door where Anne died, the locked door and broken window/ hanged body on the balcony where Tanya died and finally the rubble on James, the beer in his hand or his system and the removed stepladder from the attic that caused the unsafe jump. The cause of their deaths is so blatantly obvious, what mystery could there possibly be?
      And if this is a story about Anthony coming to terms with their deaths why doesn't letting them die to their demons result in the same "good" ending? Why are there no demons chasing him exactly?
      Etc etc there are so many abandoned plotlines and so much stuff we have been shown to later have not existed that each goddamn quicktime event yields a question of its own. The twist for a sake of having a twist has caused the story to no longer make any sense under a microscope

      @geoffreygoncalves931 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deaconblackfire2896 You resumed exactly why the "twist" doesn't work, even if, and I say if, a mental illness could create a plotline this big and convuluted, then Andrew/Anthony should have been in all of the segments of the game however the group split at least twice and I should believe that Anthony was able to imagine what kind of shenanigans happended during those times as we play as Daniel ? Yeah, That's not how that kind of mental illness works. And like you said, how the game now explain the fact that Amy's portrait in the museum look exactly like Anne/Angela if there were no réincarnations involved ? Those three groups aren't even the only times they were reborn : there was a writter in Little Hope in the 1800's who died mysteriously nammed Tilly (like Tabitha/Tanya/Taylor) and in the bar were we meet Vince, there is a photo depicting WW2 soldiers on a train, a "Daniel" and an "Andrew" among them.
      I mean Until Dawn had cliches but that what made it work so who cares if the réincarnation and demonics past-selves sound cliche, at least it was thrilling. Man of Medan despite the fact that there was no real ghosts made it clear that the threat was still here, Olson still keeping the distributor cap and the gas being deadly if exposed to it too long.

    Edit: I'm currently watching it again because after I watched this video my mind made everything in this game all real it's just ancestral problems because of the Priest putting curses on James, Dennis, Anne and Tanya. The reason why Andrew didn't get a curse was because he wasn't killed and I think he had the Priest trust( I could be wrong) and Megan brought Andrew, Dennis, Tanya and Anne to Little Hope to finally fix the curse and live normal lives. This is how my mind made it because this game is very sad.

    They do the same trick twice....one which is poorly done and one that is done much better but its still massively disappointing. I want actual supernatural shit. Ghosts, ghouls monsters, etc etc. I hate it when its the "none of it is real it was all a hallucination, in his head" etc etc
    This game was so much better then the first and then that ending happens and I'm just disappointed and upset at the same time because I wasted money only to be baited twice in a row. And the fact that the third preview has soldiers in it is not promising at all to me. Because its either going to be one of two things. PTSD where NONE of it is real, again. Or they will finally bite the bullet and have monsters and it being real.

      I don’t understand what’s so bad about it being a more believable story? Granted I’d understand if they did 3x in a row (which I hope they don’t) but this ending shocked me and I liked the plot twist quite a lot. I will admit one flaw with this is that it ruins replayability since the next time you play you already know everything is fake

    So, hallucination again? Gosh. I don't mind about psychological stuff, but fighting ghost or monster is much more entertaining. Saving people, fighting witches, crazy people, demons, devils, wendigo, something like that.

    The thing that sucks for me about this ending is that not even 5 minutes earlier, exploring the ground floor of the house, we saw the demons approaching and the tension building up with the music. Then we go upstairs, Andrew chooses to save Mary and it's like "you made the right call. Nothing else to do here, byeee house"
    A tad anti-climactic for me, they could have at least show us a cinematic of the demons reversing to their pre-death form an thanking the player or something. Not just PUFF they're gone.
