@@NWIVeteranConstruction bro... I know that all too well in this area. You're right next door I'm sure the culture is similar.
I'm from the west coast originally, NONE OF THAT flies out there. It's the fastest way to get sued and lose everything.
I'm competent enough in the trades to do a lot of stuff; but I find repairs and service calls way less liability and something I'm generally pretty talented with. I save the big stuff for my own properties 🤣
Anyhow, thanks for the great vids, I'll shoot you some finished project pics if you got insta.

For those confused about why he did them this way around, it's explained in Part one. The middle area has a pitch change and is lower slope than the rest which is why it's "backwards" lower slopes always wrap even if they see more water

Thanks for posting this part 1 & 2! I don’t want to roof my own house which has a similar double valley thing like this in two spots. I may end up hiring a metal roofing company so it’ll never have to be done again!

I have two closed valleys to tie into existing 12/12 home to new attached garage with an opposing 12/12. I laid sleepers on top of shingles of existing house and now need to shingle the valleys. I have not seen any videos anywhere to help with this situation. Hoping you have done this and you would have some suggestions how to go about this.

@ 17:17 running a bead of tar under that starter might give some more protection no? also what about running a bead of tar along under the sides of the caps? sience it doesnt overlap the shingle very much, say if you get alot of snow

That’s one valley that will never leak I just learned something new I’ve always got 40 yrs did it the old wee your higher roof over laps the lower and I go back and cut all the points under the upper off at an angle so ice dams don’t run the top of the shingle below your way used less shingles that have to get cut back so you don’t have a shingle seen to close to the valley and yours comes out a lot straighter and it’s quicker

So if you changed those valleys because the pitch was too high on the dormers, why did you not switch the other side, it will have the same effect rolling down especially with the sky lights bottoms less then 6 inches from the valley and I would turn that gun down 19:53 you cut 2 cap in the middle and and put it up too 2 seams, even with black jack that us a guaranteed leak and a guaranteed fail even with the third cap covering the seams, water backs up

I like the way you did it better. I just don’t think you explained it very well. At least with your way there are a lot more shingles in the area. As for water direction, it really won’t matter we’re the seams are in an ice dam situation. Water will be going everywhere.

you need at least 1 1/2 nails on that part.1 3/4 is the best, you're trying to blow thru 3 shinglesa at once! .personally i hate cali style.classic closed cut is my fav .

@@NWIVeteranConstruction i meant dormer side, you running cali style and 1 1/4 is barely adequate for closed cut style, cali has 1 more shingle in there.which makes its even worse.it is faster but you should carry 1 3/4 nails in truck off menards for 40 bucks a box and use them for valleys.or just do closed cut. yes,it looks cleaner cali, but as i mentioned ,nailing should be done better.
