All of Savage's efforts, the plastic, the lug vs heavy bolt are geared toward keeping the gun light weight.. this is a GOOD thing. A wood stock? A One Pound Bolt? Why would I want a 7 pound rimfire rifle? The new CZ rifle is obviously beautiful with a Walnut stock and it is well made but it is heavier.
Another in the Savage A series of 'higher powered' rimfire rifles I see . Well, time and range reports will let me know if this will be a good performer too. I do look forward to your range report, Mike, thanks for this.
Nice,plainly understandable review, demonstration of this rifle! One thing I would be interested in, your evaluation of the Accutrigger in this rifle. I have two other Savage rifles/bolt guns,with this trigger design,that adjust from a stated trigger pull of 2-5 lbs. They work superbly! In my example or the .22Mag. in semi-auto,the manual says that it is adjustable between 3-5lbs., but my example will not adjust below 4-4.5lbs. This makes for real accuracy issues for me! I contacted Savage about this, they said send it in to them,but in today’s current political climate,I don’t want to part with my property,in case something would cause it to be lost. I took it to a local gunsmith,and he tried to fix it,but no other springs/ parts were available for it,other then a complete replacement trigger assembly,that cost as much as what I paid for the gun!! So I’m interested in your experience in testing. 🤔
I experienced the same issue with mine. I also have an A17 and the trigger is awesome. I’m weighing my options. Send it to Savage or buy a pricey Jard replacement trigger assembly.
This rifle would be UK legal and normally all we can have in semi auto is .22lr as thats all that tends to be available. So I would be interested to see how it performs.

Marlin made a couple .22magnum rifles. I had one wish I would have kept it. Marlin made 2 different semi autos in .22mag. One had a tube fed magazine. The other was detachable magazines. If im not mistaking Marlin also offered a .22 mag. In a smooth bore. For pest . I guess a garden defender😁
My 2 cent observation of this A22 bolt function...the bolt delay action is similar in principle to the roller action of an HK MP5 except, instead of rollers, it uses a simplified, single cam wedge. There's got to be more friction on this little wedge when the in motion which rollers would eliminate. Makes me wonder how long before the wedge shows signs of wear? I wonder if a single roller cam design could work to greatly reduce friction?
Also the receiver is made from Aluminum, so you have a steel locking bar grinding on a aluminum receiver. For that matter the bolt itself is riding on the aluminum rails of the receiver. Might want to use grease instead of oil for lube.
I shot a friends and it jammed with all brands of ammo. I went and bought a savage .22mag bolt rifle,and I love it. A.22Mag will not be in my gun cabinet.
I am curious as to how this rifle will perform in the field. Some praise it and some curse it. I will definitely upgrade the stock. We'll see what velocities we get with this barrel and the 30 grain to 50 grain ammo.
What's the best way to get that hollow, cheap feeling out of the stock? I'm thinking Home Depot for a can of spray-can type Crack/Gap filler. Anyone reading like to chime in?
Do you mean the 22 LR version of the Savage A22, or the rifle in this video which is 22 Magnum? If you mean both in 22LR then I would chose the 10/22 take down. The 10/22 is a gun I think every family should own, but hat is just me. If every responsible, law abiding family in America had an AR15 and a 10/22 I think our nation would be safer.......but that is a different topic, sorry. The take down is handier and more versatile. The savage is nice but the 10/22 magazines are great and I have a bunch. Having good 25 round mags would be one factor alone that would tip the scales in favor of the Ruger for me.

No, I normally go to the indoor and outdoor range. That's all! But even if I order online, when they ship to CT they only ship 10 rounds and the local stores are only allowed to sell 10 rounds so I'm pretty much screwed either way.
The spring in the magazines is too stiff when new. If you down load to 15 to 20 rounds it will run just fine. Load the Butler Creek magazines fully and let them sit for a couple of weeks. Or just down load and use them a while and they will function just fine.
Doubt seriously it’s the quality of my H&K 300 semi-auto 22mag. Mine has never had a malfunction and still shoots in the low 0.3’s at 50yds. Glad I never sold it.

The ammo is a problem. Fortunately I bought plenty when the prices were "normal". The prices have been softening up a bit lately. I have seen some Armscore for about $13 a box on Gunbroker.
Considering the price, the quality of the firearm is unacceptable. I can build a target model 10/22 for the price of this rifle and shoot 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards. The severe safety issue regarding ruptured cases proves my point.

It's the same as a Rossi RS 22M semi auto rifle. The Rossi is a shooter., and reasonable priced to boot. The bolt, the way it works & even the way it looks tells me the savage is made by Rossi.
The Savage is made is USA. The Rossi was not on the market several years ago when I did this review. I believe Rossi is copying the features they like from Savage and offering their improved version. They are known for copying others designs.

The stock I better on The Rossi. stiffer, still a composite. Hold open on the last shot. Not on the Savage because of the magazine Savage can't do it. Rossi can. Rossi very dependable, Savage- PITA to run. Gun parts are made in all parts of the world, you might be surprised where parts are made on a Savage. It's more like assembled in US. What Rossi did was make it better. Shoot them SxS see for yerself.

Great... I'm real interested to see the reliability. These semiauto 22 Magnum's are notoriously finicky with cycling ammo.

Savage always seams to be a good value.
I wouldn't worry much about the "plastic" parts of this rifle...current polymers are exceptionally tough and durable.
i worry that companies will still charge wooden stock prices for polymer rifles

You could easily fill the stock with epoxy resin for about $25. This will add about 2 lbs of weight which will absorb recoil.
It would make it feel more solid.

I just did a little research, savage is discontinuing this rifle at the end of 2019. Safety/reliability issues. Good riddance.
I have not had a case rupture in my rifle. I have had a rupture in a PMR 30.

some places in Canada they are $600--$850 was going get one but saw price . so I got a savage 93 gl lefthand instead for $345 .
