Couple of quick tips for houses and landscapes:
If you see several houses that are primarily red brick and single-storied, you have a high chance of being in one of the southeastern states.
You'll end up in California and Texas A LOT, mostly because of how many more roads there are there compared to other western states.
Also, for future vids, there is also a ton of corn production in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin (which probably doesn't help you much lol)

State highway signs often have the shape of the state on them, but you never spawned near any, so it couldn't help. As far as evergreen trees go, they're everywhere. There are different varieties that you could try to learn if you really care, but a quick glance is unlikely to reveal much. Pines could be in the northwest or they could be as far south as ArkLaTex.

It is much more lush green but more important very rolling. Nebraska has corn but on the east and is more yellow and dry looking even when you get a few miles in. The Maryland one was utter crap...not representative of the state, the eastern shore near Delaware is farming but near that locale there should have been better hints of the Ceaspeake Bay... your guess of Indiana given the soybean crop was a very good guess

Some tips based on your comments:
Good job on round 1. The western U.S. is so much more varied than the Midwest and East haha, there's a lot more distinction between areas.
For the second round, almost everywhere in Pennsylvania is quite hilly. If it's flat, it's probably not Pennsylvania.
The area you clicked in Washington for the 3rd round is very mountainous. You don't get a lot of hilly areas that look like that in the western U.S. (low hills but no mountains visible). You get big mountains. Some areas are flat with no mountains visible, but those areas are typically either very dry and deserty (such as southeastern California/southwestern Arizona) or you're in the Central Valley of California.
Of course, that 4th round shows that the immediate west coast has lower mountains, but the trees on the western and eastern coasts are different. Btw, they have pine trees because they get a TON of rain in that area. Also, those shops give no clues, since AutoZone and CVS are both all over the country.
For the 5th round, those kinds of heavily wooded hilly areas are a pretty solid giveaway that you're in New England.
On the 6th round, the trees won't be that dense in Missouri. If it's that wooded, but also flat, it's almost definitely the Deep South (or Minnesota, but you hopefully won't mix up Minnesota and the South, lol). Distinguishing southern foliage can take some practice but you'll get it.
But...then of course you get something like the 7th round, which is in a mountainous area in the West, but in a flat plateau so it's not obvious that you're in the mountains. Hey, none of these tips are absolute truths, lol
Those last 3 rounds...honestly, I'm not sure even an avid and experienced traveler of the U.S. could really get these. So your question, is it possible to distinguish a field in Indiana from a field in Maryland? I honestly have no idea lol. Nebraska from Iowa? No chance, unless you end up next to a clue. Tennessee from South Carolina? Probably the same. So many landscapes are so similar throughout the U.S. For some of them, it will definitely just take luck. Learning the different state highway signs will help too, but obviously you still have to be lucky enough to be placed next to one.
Really enjoyed this video, hope to see more!

If you’re in corn land and it’s fairly hilly, it’s more than likely Iowa. Nebraska is comparatively flat. Also, if it looks cold but there aren’t too many evergreens and it’s hilly, it’s probably Arkansas. Missouri is also pretty hilly but doesn’t show up too often. So if it looks souther but it’s hilly, your best bet is to go Arkansas. Definitely tough but I think you’ll get there in the end

Also, bruh, it's Mish-ee-g'n, not Mitch-ee-g'n :) Paine Xing means Paine Crossing. Crossing is a typical nomenclature of American small towns that are located where 2 major roads crossed.
And Iowa's pronounced EYE-oh-wa, not Eye-OH-wa. And you can't read climate dependent latitudes and compare them to Europe because the gulf stream as well as atmospheric air circulations make the Atlantic North/East shores a whopping 6° C warmer than it's western shores. Like you saw on the map, Iberia is on the latitude of New England and Canada's East coast.

  • @Sphere723
    @Sphere723 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

For a little bit of help, asphalt will crack at regular intervals perpendicular to the road where there is very cold weather because of shrinkage. Where there is hot weather you are more likely to get tire ruts, a few cracks parallel to the road, or nothing because the asphalt stays soft. Several of your guesses here had fairly old roads that didn't show cold weather cracking, but you put them in cold areas.
8:50 No cold weather cracks, this means south or coasts.
17:26 These are classic cold weather cracks you can expect the in upper Midwest.
14:13 Again, an older road without perpendicular cracks. Probably south.
13:33 cracks all the way across the road, probably up north.
    18:17 No cold weather cracks.
Not fool proof by any means as sometimes a crack is just a crack, but if you're seeing regular, big cracks every 20m or so go up north.

I generally associate pine trees mixed with other trees to be the southeast. Like North or South Carolina, Georgia, or other states like that.
Concrete roads are popular in the Midwest.

That being said, even I wouldn’t have done any better than you did. Fact of the matter is that I personally believe the majority of our states are very diverse environmentally, so Northern Texas might look like Central Missouri for example. South-Central Texas however, can look like Arizona or New Mexico, this is where the difficulty is. A prime example happened to me in this video, when you got that Michigan round, being from west of Chicago, that neighborhood looked alot like something you would find around here in late November/Early December up here in Illinois, so I thought I recognized it as such. Ironically, I have actually been to St. Joseph Michigan many times, so that could also be why it looked so familiar.

A few tips you can use for the us is the height if the curbs. Older areas, like in cities and out east will have shorter curbs than out west. Big license plates to look for are White with Red cursive lettering (California), and Bright Yellow (New York). Areas in the Midwest and in rural areas will tend to have american care brands like Ford or Chevy, while areas out west and in cities will see more Japanese cars like Toyoda and Honda. The Latest states to look for are Kansas and Nebraska, but most central states will have flat areas. If you see a Rebel Flag, there is a good chance you are in the south. A run down factory indicates you are in a rust belt state, like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, etc. When it comes to trees, the more north you go, especially in the Midwest. There will be hardly any trees in the great plains. Tall, massive trees, especially those with red bark will be in California, or less likely Oregon or Washington. When telling Appalachia from Cascades from The Rockies from the Sierras, there are a few factors. Appalachia will be worse off economically, and they will have a good amount of foliage but nothing crazy. The Cascades will be foggy and very green. The Rockies will be dry and the mountains will be absolutely massive. The Sierras and Mountains in California can vary a lot between North and South, but look for Desert. The Major Highway system in the US is the Interstate System, but you probably already know this. Odd Numbers run North/South, Even Numbers run East/West. Three Digit numbered highways will likely be going in/out/around a city. For North/South Highways, the lower numbers start in the south and go up the more north you get, and the East/West numbered highways start in the West. Hope I could help.

I’m always flabbergasted by your ability to identify locations in the UK, but for several of these I had a weird sense of where you were and turned out to be right. Only for states I’ve been to, though. The problem with America is many states are very similar. It’s easy to be 1 or 2 off.

Other things you can look out for are dirt, grass and weed types. For instance, in the southern states, the dirt is much more red due to clay content. In the northern states, the dirt tends to be a darker brown color. In southern states, they have different grass species which tend to be a lighter/ more lime-greenish color, compared to central and northern states, where the grass is a richer, darker green (which could be hard to tell depending on the season). The southeastern states also tend to have more of those weeds (like you saw in the South Carolina round), which can stretch up into states like Tennessee and the Virginia.

The tall skinny trees with few branches and some leaves at the very top are generally in the south and mid eastern coasts
