      Yeah, I got a good chuckle out of him looking at Chicago. I would have been surprised if he got any of the cities in the UP, but was still remarkably surprised with how much of Michigan he covered unintentionally. We just have so many cities in our state with the same name as larger cities.

      I'm pretty sure my uncle has a story about being stranded in Boise on a Greyhound bus tour across the country. I think the story goes that he eventually got a ride back to the East Coast as far as Knoxville, where my grandparents picked him up and drove him the rest of the way home.

    The town you're looking for is "Merced." :) Tahoe was tricky because there are towns called "Tahoe City" and "South Lake Tahoe" but not simply "Lake Tahoe."

    You covered basically the entire west coast and almost everything east of the 100th meridian, which, for an exercise like this, should for all intents and purposes be considered a success.
    If you notice in your results, there’s an almost perfectly vertical line dividing everything you got correct to the right and towns you missed to the left. This very closely follows the 100th meridian, which is a fascinatingly natural border between humid & arable land to the East (due to the Atlantic Ocean) and extremely dry & arid land to the West (very little rain due to the Rocky Mountains and moisture from the Atlantic not reaching that far).
    Pretty neat to see it show up in your results. That land is largely empty in your results because there are simply fewer big cities and people in general.

    Knowing the state capitals would really help, but even I don't know them all. There are many places in the US named after European cities and towns: Paris, Milan, Dublin, Budapest, Venice, Berlin, London and so on. There are a handful of town names that are present in many, many locations: Springfield, Washington, Arlington, Franklin and those would probably help a lot.
    I think you did surprisingly well for not being an American.

    Greetings from Norway! Fire off with a lot of early/famous presidents, Madison, Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Lincoln, Jackson, then add a lot of UK towns, UK kings, and European capitals, and half the map is covered. But the non-coastal west is harder! BTW, your sharing caused the game owners to restrict access! ;-)

      A full list of presidents is actually pretty effective: He'd have got most of Utah. Roosevelt gives you the north east corner, and Fillmore the western center.

    You’re really good with these! I recommend when youre doing west side of America and guessing cities, a lot of the areas where named after losses in translation. Using simple descriptors are also good guesses. Black Rock, Widowfield, Flower Plain, etc. While they aren’t actually cities, there’s a small chance they are. You do incredible though every time you do these.

    There is a Barrow Alaska, but I think the website you’re using uses the indigenous name for it which is Utqiagvik.

Wales, or Cymru (in Britain) is also heading in this direction, with the greater usage and revival of Welsh/Cymraeg language in general, and many places going back to their original names.

    When in doubt, just start naming ancient Greek cities. The US has tons of towns that are named after Ancient cities in Europe.

    I had a go at this quiz and only used the names of places in the British Isles. Doing this completed 20 states and 19852/21397 places. There was the odd time when the quiz took the first part of a name like 'Man' fro Manchester. I started with Derby and covered 1977 places in four circles!

    In the mid-2010s, Barrow changed its name to Utqiagvik. It's very hard to spell.

    Yes, I swear Tom was talking directly to me when he said "shut up, it's Or-RAY-gon" as I laughed at him. And as an Albuquerque resident, I'm ok with the inability to spell it. At least you know New Mexico is within the USA, when so many US citizens do not!

    Another hugequiz I can really recommend is "closest coverage" on World (or Europe). There you also have to name cities but the circles don't have a set size, instead they stretch as far as needed to fill the closest (100/50/10) cities. It's very satisfying and fun!

    Thanks for trying to spell Albuquerque so many times! We live here so we know how to spell it. Usually, I have to spell it for people over the phone if I'm ordering something out of state. I was hoping you'd go for Santa Fe, the state capital, and one of the oldest cities (1607) in the United States. Albuquerque was founded in 1706 and was named after the Duke of Alburquerque (different spelling). We think you did really great on this challenge. You can name more US cities than most US citizens!

    I think you did very well!. My family immigrated to Canada in 1957, to Sault Ste Marie ON. Of course the "American Soo" is Sault Ste. Marie MI. Another UP (Upper Peninsula) city is Marquette. I've been to Port Angeles WA on a ferry from Victoria. That would catch some of that NW Washington. Barrow Alaska has a W. Oregon is pronounced more or less OR.uh.gin. Did you do Sacramento CA? Cheers!

    Tbf the areas you didn't get _are_ quite sparsely populated. I'm not sure that I'd fare much better, even as an American myself.

      @@cptn_chromo3189 Nah it costs a ton of money for Google Maps API nowadays. What they're doing is cool which is make it free for the majority until it causes a problem and then restrict it. They even gave a date when it becomes free again which is more than they needed to do.

    I've found that once you get through all the places you know, just use Presidents, European capitals, every UK town name you can think of (including adding "New" in front of them), and then just take surnames, like Stevens, Foster, Willis, Jones etc. and then start tacking onto them all of the suffixes, like ville, dale, ton, mount, mont, port, branch, city, falls etc. And don't forget to do directions like North, South, East, West with the suffixes too. I even got Santa Claus. When I got desperate I just looked around the room and started naming random things - "Blanket" worked!! ROFL. Oh, and male first names like George, John, James etc. Animals like Moose, Bear, Deer, Eagle, and even state names with "city" after them.

    This game shows just how many cities have the same name in the US.
    The fact that the entire mid west was covered by naming east coast cities shows we ran out of ideas fast and had to start reusing them pretty early on in the genocide.
