Diablo was probably in on it too, Baal however was not, before possessing Tal Rasha he was a moron hitting things for the sake of destruction, no rhyme or reason with Baal unless he was guided and/or manipulated by his brothers. So as Mephisto trolls that poor girl he must be thinking "Just as planned!" as he drives her more and more nuts, breaking her into his next vessel as he is subtly guides her to his next stop where he'll probably unleash Baal again like the tool of destruction he is since NO ONE will come to save humanity and the two greatest powers that may have stood in their way were eliminated when the Lilith and Inarius plus "Dad's Army" were destroyed. In the meantime Heaven closed up shop so Mephisto pretty much has free reign in Sanctuary to corrupt/kill everyone. The thing is I have a suspicion why Heaven closed its gates. The angels are terrified of the potential of mortals after the Nephalem defeated Malthael. They are probably rebuilding and strengthening their bastion, preparing for pretty much the end-times. Here's the thing though; FEAR has taken root in their hearts. I suspect Diablo might be screwing around in Heaven, maybe even posing as one of them. That would be something! A civil war between the few pure angels left and Diablo's corrupted army of the "Light" lol! So, Mephisto's plan: corrupt humanity to create an army of super-demons, then use them to destroy an already weakened Heaven, I mean Diablo has been screwing with Imperius' mind for ages now, it's part of the plan. Yea he deserves it , since the focus was on Diablo and Ball in D2 and Mephisto kinda felt like a after though. Its cool how he was been build up and his plan since the base game . All prime evils will get their story acts/ expansions most likely but i hope they will have a brand new big bad in an expansion maybe the last one , maybe Inarius will return and have his own act bc he also deserves it . We need the mad father too , i would like for Tra'gul to return as well and see him for the first time in a game .

So it was also these angels and demons and their children who lived in the Sanctuary. I just wanted to add that because it sounded like Inarius and Lilith were the only ones who lived there in the Sanctuary with their children.
My Gamertag and email since 1996 has been Mifesto long before Diablo 2 was released including a character in UO (Ultima Online) not many remember this but when Diablo 1 came out they had a collectors edition that came with a booklet and in that it covered some of the lore mostly the Darkening of Tristam. While brief the section about Mephisto caught my eye (14 years old at the time) I remember thinking to myself "Why is this game called Diablo" when clearly Diablo is the weaker of the 3 brothers. Outside the Best Buy there was religious folk protesting Diablo 1 and it's sales. Amazing to think how long ago that was now, While diablo 4 is not my favorite (Diablo 2 will always hold that spot unless Diablo games get back to that type of style) it's good to see the series alive and well today.
I didn't even enjoy the campaign in 4 even thought lillith and Elias were cool villains. I'm still sad. It just felt like random banter for most of the game. Neyrelle just felt like some recycled version of Leah. And I didn't even like Leah's character lol. The expansion looks like a little side dlc too. Nothing like repair of souls. Maybe I'll be surprised.
I hope some day there would be a movie series made from Diablo. The lore is there, all it would require someone from Blizzard to make it happen. I loved the Warcraft movie aswell, even though it could of have been made a little better but still eagerly hoping for 2nd movie there too.
I think Mephisto wanted to go into the soulstone. Now he is on Sanctuary with a massive power vacuum. And to be honest Mephisto didnt lie at all the entire time. I have a theory that the Prime Evils are immune to their own power. Diablo is said to be immune to fear. Baal was able to not self sabotage as a destructive person might do. So perhaps Mephisto is also immune to anger or hatred making him far more cunning and tactical. In the cutscene when Mephisto is sealed he is practically goading her into doing it while telling her the consequences.
Good Theory, however i seem to remember Diablo being struck by fear when Uldyssian basicly shows him a Mirror. His Power to make People see what they fear most was turned against him and he had to recover for a while. If memory serves, that was the reason why Mephisto was the one barganing with the angels in the first place. Diablo was still recovering from that. So its likely they are not immune to their own powers. However Hatred doesn't have to make one impulsive. Mephistos cunning is likely just his way to spread more hatred to the world. Edit: The scene was in the Sin-War books i think.

I'm so glad he's getting the spotlight. He felt like a throw away boss in D2, an obstacle or nuisance. Crazy too because in Marvel he's one of the biggest baddies. Basically any character with this name should be a MAJOR threat.
This is what i love about the diablo franchise. Diablo 4 is so far doing such a great job when it comes to the dark lore and media that tell them. Even the book of lorath was top tier and not animated like the newest trailer. And then there is the blizzard marketing that thinks hip hop music fits the steamtrailer the best, gives us an expensive game, with expensive expansion (so far its fine) and a season pass and microtransactions ingame shop on top without updates of the game that justify all that. Really this game is about good and bad not only in the games lore xD
My biggest gripe about the story of Diablo 4 so far is why in the F*** we allowed a teenage girl to wield the soul stone we built to imprison Lilith, why we LET her use it on mephisto and then LET her run off with it, like.......... What!? Why would our character be so careless!?!?!

Adria did NOT create the black soulstone, Zoltan Kuul created the stone, Adria just marked their demonic souls so they could be absorbed by the black soulstone when it came into her possession. She literally tells the player this after Liah dies

I thought the games were about Diablo? "See, for a time, they were, especially considering they were made during a time when it was terror that made our world go round. But over time, and since the internet age, hatred started growing more and more powerful and it's looking like a coup developed from this ancient evil sibling rivalry. Maybe one day, destruction will follow in his wake, only to start the cycle anew after the people realize what they've done."
A few facts are a bit wrong. Adria didn't create the black soul stone, Zoltun Kulle did. In ALL of the games Mephisto has always been 10 steps ahead of your hero. Yes, even his defeat in II was planned, come on...he didn't even put up a real fight hes a prime evil and it should have been suspicious as to how quickly he went down. He also wasn't trying to convince Neyrelle to imprison Lilith, yes he said it but he offers himself to Neyrelle, straight up putting himself in position to be sealed. He wanted her to seal him in the stone. It was a get out of jail free card for him leaving you to deal with Lilith, not caring who makes it, you or her. Keep in mind everything that happens in IV went exactly as Mephisto hoped it would. He "saves" you for this purpose and Neyrelle was also chosen. Mephisto does even share a few details with alluding to the future.

I could never imagine how stupid the Angiris council are. I mean, how are they supposed to have trusted "demons," let alone the three greater evils, to keep their word and, at worst, seal a pact between them? Their level of competence is so beneath zombie level. Because of this, humans in Sanctuary could very well have a greater future with Lilith, who in all of them seems to be more rational and practices common sense at the helm.
So, pretty much his entire plan was to be the only prime evil. I doubt we'll see diablo or baal again then. They seem to have been destroyed permentally unless we get more dlc's. Which would be awesome to return to the other side of Sanctuary where diablo 1 and 2 took place.
the prime evils cannot die, they are reborn when killed (i think all demons have this ability). this is why they are put into soul stones, they are trying to trap them and keep them from doing anything but these stones are not perfect and their intent leaks out which leads to those close by being corrupted. angels kinda do the same thing but it's a different angels that is born (same power/skill) but they are not who they once were, they are something new. this is why the war has never come to stop, it's a endless conflict because neither side can actually really "die". again this is why beings are trapped, if you kill them they will just come back but if you can trap them you can keep them out of the picture. Diablo and Baal will come back at some point.
Question for you and anybody else. The enemy faction the drowned sailors, what are they? Are the zombies, demons, humans with powers, its never explained
Zoltun Kull created the black soul stone, not Adria. She just used the stone. Also the prime evil in Diablo 3, at the end, is all 7 prime evil, not just Diablo and Mephisto. Adria found and marked all soul stones with the prime evil, and they all got sucked into the black soul stone, when Zoltun Kull completed it in act II. All but Belial and Azmodan then were in the stone. In act II, we defeat Belial and inprison him in the stone, in act III we do that with Azmodan, and then Adria uses Leia, the daughter of Diablo, as vessel for Diablo, who now had the power of all 7 prime evils in the stone combined. So Adria didn't create the black soul stone, and Diablo had the power of all 7 prime evils, it wasn't just him and Mephisto 🤷♂️

I feel that yeah Lillith had a love for humanity but it was darkly tainted as it's all she could express but she would fight tooth and nail to anyone who was a threat to her children. You can tell the death of her son shook her, it wasent that she was robbed of a "tool" her son her greatest and maybe only true love had died I can i.agine her fervor as she killed the nephalims parents once they had decided to kill their own children. So perhaps Mephisto is also immune to anger or hatred making him far more cunning and tactical. In the cutscene when Mephisto is sealed he is practically goading her into doing it while telling her the consequences.

Good Theory, however i seem to remember Diablo being struck by fear when Uldyssian basicly shows him a Mirror. His Power to make People see what they fear most was turned against him and he had to recover for a while. If memory serves, that was the reason why Mephisto was the one barganing with the angels in the first place. Diablo was still recovering from that. So its likely they are not immune to their own powers. However Hatred doesn't have to make one impulsive. Mephistos cunning is likely just his way to spread more hatred to the world.

@@malicprestor1385 i think thats been retconned by Diablo 3 with Cains Journal stating Diablo's power over terror makes him immune to fear. Last Sin War Book was 2007 and D3 was 2012.
@@salavantias1948 I remember the Journal you are referring to. I thought, that cain just didnt know better. Noone but Uldyssian and Diablo were present for that single Moment in time where that happened. But you might be right too. I never checked if they retconned anything from the books.

That is correct; came here to make the same comment haha - always miffed me how 5 of the Evils were somehow bound within the black soulstone despite it not being present upon their demise like it was for Azmodan and Belial - either something thats told off-screen in a book or an inconsistency by he Devs?
don't forget the first 3 soul stones are also Zoltun Kulle's experiment, not Tyrael, Tyrael himself doesn't know much about the potential of the soul stones

I'm so glad he's getting the spotlight. He felt like a throw away boss in D2, an obstacle or nuisance. Crazy too because in Marvel he's one of the biggest baddies. Basically any character with this name should be a MAJOR threat.

This is what i love about the diablo franchise. Diablo 4 is so far doing such a great job when it comes to the dark lore and media that tell them. Even the book of lorath was top tier and not animated like the newest trailer.
And then there is the blizzard marketing that thinks hip hop music fits the steamtrailer the best, gives us an expensive game, with expensive expansion (so far its fine) and a season pass and microtransactions ingame shop on top without updates of the game that justify all that.
Really this game is about good and bad not only in the games lore xD

There is a mistake ... Adria didnt form the black soulstone... Its was Zoltun Kull. She was the one, using it to collect the spirit of mephisto.
My biggest gripe about the story of Diablo 4 so far is why in the F*** we allowed a teenage girl to wield the soul stone we built to imprison Lilith, why we LET her use it on mephisto and then LET her run off with it, like.......... What!? Why would our character be so careless!?!?!
I thought the whe campaign sucked. Most of it was just lorath and the fat guy arguing with eachother lol. I did not enjoy it.
I think nobody knew she’s running off with it. Though it’s easy to be tricked when a professional does it.

I'm curious to know where Adria found Lucio's and Lilith's essence since we never fought them as players. Unless you count Ubers of Diablo 2 as a canon. (Yes. I was reading all the text in Diablo 1/2/3/4) Malthael wanted to purge all the demons and their corruption. Unfortunately, Nephalem and Sanctuary are part of demons and angels.

you can weather terror and destruction but hatred is an entirely different beast, its so much more insidious, it turns everyone against everyone, it even turns you against yourself. mephisto is the oldes of the 3 and the most patient and cunnig of the 3 primes and when it comes to the sheer danger he poses ,he eclipses his brothers by miles...at least i would think so

A few facts are a bit wrong. Adria didn't create the black soul stone, Zoltun Kulle did. In ALL of the games Mephisto has always been 10 steps ahead of your hero. Yes, even his defeat in II was planned, come on...he didn't even put up a real fight hes a prime evil and it should have been suspicious as to how quickly he went down. He also wasn't trying to convince Neyrelle to imprison Lilith, yes he said it but he offers himself to Neyrelle, straight up putting himself in position to be sealed. He wanted her to seal him in the stone. It was a get out of jail free card for him leaving you to deal with Lilith, not caring who makes it, you or her. Keep in mind everything that happens in IV went exactly as Mephisto hoped it would. He "saves" you for this purpose and Neyrelle was also chosen. Mephisto does even share a few details with alluding to the future.

I could never imagine how stupid the Angiris council are. I mean, how are they supposed to have trusted "demons," let alone the three greater evils, to keep their word and, at worst, seal a pact between them? Their level of competence is so beneath zombie level. Because of this, humans in Sanctuary could very well have a greater future with Lilith, who in all of them seems to be more rational and practices common sense at the helm.

So, pretty much his entire plan was to be the only prime evil. I doubt we'll see diablo or baal again then. They seem to have been destroyed permentally unless we get more dlc's. Which would be awesome to return to the other side of Sanctuary where diablo 1 and 2 took place.
Yes, especially since they're more "gothic" in atmosphere. Though, D4 generally is pretty dark and I freakin' love the mood.
the prime evils cannot die, they are reborn when killed (i think all demons have this ability). this is why they are put into soul stones, they are trying to trap them and keep them from doing anything but these stones are not perfect and their intent leaks out which leads to those close by being corrupted.
angels kinda do the same thing but it's a different angels that is born (same power/skill) but they are not who they once were, they are something new.
this is why the war has never come to stop, it's a endless conflict because neither side can actually really "die".
again this is why beings are trapped, if you kill them they will just come back but if you can trap them you can keep them out of the picture.
Diablo and Baal will come back at some point.

Zoltun Kull created the black soul stone, not Adria. She just used the stone. Also the prime evil in Diablo 3, at the end, is all 7 prime evil, not just Diablo and Mephisto.
Adria found and marked all soul stones with the prime evil, and they all got sucked into the black soul stone, when Zoltun Kull completed it in act II. All but Belial and Azmodan then were in the stone.
In act II, we defeat Belial and inprison him in the stone, in act III we do that with Azmodan, and then Adria uses Leia, the daughter of Diablo, as vessel for Diablo, who now had the power of all 7 prime evils in the stone combined.
So Adria didn't create the black soul stone, and Diablo had the power of all 7 prime evils, it wasn't just him and Mephisto 🤷♂️

I feel that yeah Lillith had a love for humanity but it was darkly tainted as it's all she could express but she would fight tooth and nail to anyone who was a threat to her children. You can tell the death of her son shook her, it wasent that she was robbed of a "tool" her son her greatest and maybe only true love had died I can i.agine her fervor as she killed the nephalims parents once they had decided to kill their own children. They say Bul Kathos hated her for the killing of his parents..but if she would have not killed them he would have been killed by them.
