I love the detail of putting gunners at set distances on a ledge before a red backdrop. It's one of the most beautiful things I've seen in any version of Doom.
The map was well designed, I find the title funny, because the map absolutely slaughters you if you try to beat it with any speed. I have to admit the older Doom games had a very good formula for both game play and theme. The old Doom games when played with Brutal Doom can still beat some of the more modern games on the market today.
Got all 3 keys, killed Cyberdeamon the hard way and spent ages going around and around not able to get past the 'red wall with chaingunners' bit. Finally found out that you had to double back up the stairs and take the unmarked teleporters to the archviles and trip the switches behind them which then remove the barriers to the left of aforesaid 'red wall'. Bloody sneaky map if you have to go in a certain direction to take an hidden transporter, I could find no secrets there so just kept jumping through the gap rather than turning around and triggering it. Not really in the spirit of Doom, you should be able to work out how to finish it without relying on luck.
I also want to point out something that you may not know that I've found in this map and that is during the video at 3:55 if you go up those stairs and drop down on the platform with armor/health bonuses, you will release the Cyberdemon where the red key is early. So good thing you back tracked!
Another from Millo. The map of the arch vile dance between teletransporters. It has a confusing name. If you try to run, you'll end up being destroyed by the chaingunners in the far away balconies and your corpse sent to the imps of map 2 "Human BBQ" of TNT
Yeah, the one area where you're surrounded by chaingunners, you can die in less than 1 second if you don't snipe most of them off at 1st, and the revenents don't help neither. That's by far the easiest cyberdemon fight i've ever seen, imagine if a shotgunner took it on at that spot, would be nice to see. You are awesome BMD, way to go.
HA HA HA, oh man! that rocket at 11:25 gave me a good laugh! reminded me of the roadrunner and coyote cartoons where the coyote's rockets always ended up blowing up in his face instead of the roadrunner's, lol....Is that rocket gonna keep going and going when I get to that part of the map? Will it follow me into the next levels as well?? ha ha ha :P
This level was really fun just to figure out what all the teleporters did. Once I have a good understanding of a map, I like to go into a level editor and find out what the different linedefs do and what have you. It's interesting that the cyberdemon platform has like one or two triggers to raise it up. Also, since the torch strategy isn't viable in every source port, I recommend taking out the cyberdemon from the teleporting archvile room because the "houses" the archviles are inside are the best cover from the rockets in my opinion. It's a lot to remember, but once you do memorize it, it's a pretty fun and well designed map.
The cyberdemon can be activated much later in this map by dropping onto the platform seen to the right at 4:47 instead of dropping into the blood. I don't think this was intended, just an exploit I found. It is a bit of a precise jump so you may need some practice to do it if you want to play that way. Still a very challenging level either way. It makes maps 1-11 look like a cakewalk by comparison.
im pretty sure that the cyberdemon trick works only in certain ports. like zdoom. i remember that his rockets went right trough the torch. i may remember wrong but thats that..
Yeah, it kind of also works in GLBoom+. But just sort of. My friend has a playthrough of this game, where he uses the port, and he's able to do the same thing. But the Cyberdemon's rockets went through the torch much easier.

There is one video of yours I have been wanting to watch but I can't remember which one it is. It is the video with the bunch of arachnotrons and the spider mastermind leading them.
I figured out it's actually the switch at the end of the hallway where the revenants and archvile (11:05) come out that raises the pillar :) I'm not sure what that switch behind the archvile guarding the BFG does...shrugs?
After I beat the revenants and chain gunners, there was a pillar blocking me but u don't have this. This is where the chain gunners are outside in the red sky on pillars and show up in the room after all 3 keys. 10:29 in video
Okay, you didn't press a switch, I believe. I recall seeing the pillar in practice runs, and I believe there's a switch to lower it. Can't remember where though.
Wow. The music that plays in Speed is "Facing the Spider", despite the fact that there is a Cyberdemon instead of a Spiderdemon, but whatever. Oh, and you nearly got killed in that stage. I felt so glad that you didn't take the teleporter on the right at the end of the previous stage. You know, in the comment for Stage 10, you mentioned that you had to redo the whole part of Stages 10, 11 and 12, all because you took the teleporter on the right at the end of Stage 11 and ended up in this stage with only 5% health, so that was what ended up killing you. But anyways, I'm glad you're okay. Nice vid.
@BigMacDavis, so I know you said the Cyberdemon's rockets can't pass through the corner torch. But unfortunately, I did get hit with a rocket. He managed to fire one to the left side of the torch, which passed through and hit me. So although it may be 90% safe, it isn't 100% guaranteed.
this is one of 2 maps in this wad I am not a fan of pistol starting (other being map10), due to how extremely stingy this level is with ammo otherwise however I love it
It might be called speed because if you pistol start it, you cant just gow slow and kill everyone with the starter shotgun, you will run out of ammo and the chaingunners will mow you down, you will need to rush to the left and go inside the walled area.
Took care of the far away last two chain gunners you said that most people dont take out by jumping from the other side in front of them in the cliff and launching a rocket mid air at the top of the jump!! XD Yeh I hace jump on but I dont use it for progression most of the time (dont need to with your walkthroughs anyway! ;)
That's one of the many things i love about Doom. It doesn't matter how many times did you play, you can't never be absolutely sure of anything

Big Mac, hiding behind that torch from the cyberdemon doesn't work on vanilla Doom. It stops some rockets, but some of them still go through.

I played a bit of Plutonia earlier and it was really difficult! So many Revenants!
This level was really fun just to figure out what all the teleporters did. Once I have a good understanding of a map, I like to go into a level editor and find out what the different linedefs do and what have you. Funny how this map is called speed which as you pointed out in your video BMD, going slow is the best solution in beating this map.
Funny thing, I think Map12 in Plutonia 2 is called Velocity. At least I think in Plutonia 2. Either that, or Plutonia Revisited Community Project.

The start was apparently heavily inspired by E3M1 of Ultimate Doom.
