This map is just perfect. The details... The Casalis created paved streets with trees. It's also the funniest map. Amazing, almost impossible to describe. It's a glory. Easy, if you not appreciate this map, maybe you don't like this game. And let me add something, they made a city, when they had almost no time
@@BigMacDavis I actually learned to play it on guitar, it's mad fun! I can't wait to bust it out live one day haha. You make a lot of neat references to bands and some of the musical inspirations for the Doom soundtrack, but do you have a favorite band? Thanks for chatting w me in the comments btw!!
I admit I'm not a huge fan of Plutonia, but Map29, oh, boy, Map29 proves the potential of the DooM engine: most oficial maps are kinda abstract, but the game HAD the power to render awesome scenarios, even back then.
Using the E1M1 music feels very meaningful after the entire run of Doom 1993, Doom II, TNT, and Plutonia. It makes me think of the Undertale mirror scene: "Despite everything, it's still you."
I love this map because it gives you the real sensation that you´re in fact liberating a city. The other maps are just weird places that you can´t figure out what they are
Playing this map the first time is a nightmare. It's only until you know where everyone is that you can survive this map. The 2 ambushes with the revenants and pinkies are especially troubling as you learned, the herky-jerky movements of the pinks can get in your way and you can eat rockets. Very dangerous. I could never figure out how to kill that distant mancubus without cheating until I saw some walkthroughs. Boy, they throw it all at you in this great map. Good job, BigMac!
+BigMacDavis Hi big Mac I really like your doom video's. Have you played Brutal Doom? it's fantastic and is much harder. I still like to play classic doom though
You Know BigMacDavis One Thing About The Odyssey Of Noises is that This is actually My #1 Favorite Map In all of Doom: The Plutonia Experiment as you’re explaining in this TH-cam Video And While it’s Due To The Very fact it’s the most exciting and endless Levels of Fun and when it comes to Wondering Up And Down all of those Countless and Various Streets Of This City And Where full of surprises and also fulfilled with Unexpected Surprises And Unpredictable Battles Unleashed Onto You That Keep going and going forever !!!!!!!!! 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
Such an AMAZING map I can see why it's you favorite. A HUGE city map that perfectly designed and is beautiful looking it has AWESOME and FUN gameplay and the music for the map is GREAT and it's non-linear so you can finish the map is many different ways and the best thing about this map is that it looks like a REAL city. Cosali Brothers I salute you. You two are Doom Map making legends.
This map is hard but it's fun. The lower difficulty replaces the Cyberdemon with a Revenant on PS3. I'm actually almost disappointed. Never thought I'd be disappointed that the Cyberdemon isn't there. 😆 Good memories of this map. I'm sure the Cyberdemon was there on the lower difficulty first time I played this.
It is, you are correct. The cyberdemon appears on all difficulty levels on the PC version. Idk why they always feel the need to change up so many things when they port games.
This is my favorite map of all time in the early Doom series. I only wish there were significantly more enemies in the streets, in the buildings, etc. Hell I would even loved to see legions of enemies teleport in as you progressed (triggered by flipped switches).
***** This is my favorite map as well! It's just SO cool! 1:20 - The rockets disappear probably because the sky height is lower on the outer streets than it is in the middle of the city. Projectiles vanish if they're fired into the sky. 5:45 - "That Pinky's out to party" *has a pony avatar* I see what you did there. Nice playthrough! Plutonia's my favorite. I wear brown on my marine 'cause I associate it with Plutonia. I noticed you've been doing walkthroughs so far, not let's plays, but I'm inclined to ask... would you like to try a city map I designed myself? I took motivation on design choices from Plutonia for my old map pack Hellfest (or at least for the first six maps), where MAP10 of which is a town with lots of neat structures and stuff, including an unholy chapel with three floors, an inn with two, a barracks with two, numerous houses with varying numbers of floors, and so on. It's nothing like Plutonia MAP29 - there are only a few windows with monsters in them, mostly street fights, mostly interior-of-buildings monsters, but it's got a lot of gimmicks to it and detailed interiors to explore, if that counts for anything. An underground nightclub in a secret, a baron hosting a bunch of imps for dinner, a bunch of zombies eating out... stuff. Anyway, want a link?
Loved your walkthrough on this one! I like this map too, and it's one I was able to get all 100% on. I will mention....the way I like to play the game(s) now is in God mode. It's a much different style of play, but a lot of fun in it's own way. I figure, since I have done all the levels with 100% kills without being in God mode, I can do it IN God mode without being a 'cheater'! lol Anyway, so you know ----- the very last part, the dark building with the 3 Archviles, if you happen to not make it across the red pillars and you end up at the bottom of the pit, what happens is, there's a standard red-square teleporter. What I think happens is....when the red pillars reach the bottom a panel opens on the LEFT side of the wall of opening as you walk up the stairs into this area. The red-square teleporter on the bottom puts you at this opening, where, if you wanted to you could go back outside into the main map area if you wanted to, but the panel that opens is another kind of teleporter I don't think I've seen before. Stepping into that teleporter takes you across the gap to the other side where you can then finish the game. If I'm not mistaken the teleporter on the bottom is also on the left side of the pillars. So if you fell off as they were lowering you'd be stuck there until you could cross-over to the teleporter. Probably take a LOT of damage, depending on your initial state of health. Just thought you'd like to know, and these are the kinds of thing I like to find out by being in God mode. :)
Masterpiece, only this word can describe this map. Millo and Dario Casali bring a street fight, but not only that, you're in a magnificent city. The monster placement is unique, you not only have to fight in the streets, there are snipers in every window above you. The attention to details, there are trees... The streets are paved! This is the word of an artist, fot the sake of entertainment. The Casalis not only made a work of art, they didn't forget they were devolping a game map, it's the funniest of all of Doom. When I think about this map, I remember this brothers were part of Team TNT, and I always imagine someone, some day, said to them: I made a map and I will show it to you to know what you think about it... I called it Habitat. I don't want to imagine what they think when they find themselves involved in that ugly mess
hey man, just finished playing Plutonia on PS3, this map was really fun! I loved your walkthrough I used it for a couple levels but watched them all for your entertainment value. I felt a need to test, there is a teleporter pad in the final room but if you lowered a platform it is a moot point...
One of the best maps in plutonia. I always like city maps in doom, but not all authors can make good balance of design and action. I hate casali for some of the maps, but this map is gorgeous. P.S. It is interesting to see what some parts of the map you did different.
Also, it's worth noting that this is the only map that doesn't end with the generic teleporter! However, it could use more texture variety. That brownness really lets it down.
Man, there's just something about this map that I can't put my finger on. It's just so goddamn beautiful. This is my second favorite map in Plutonia, and all of Doom also. Is it still your favorite? :)
It's my favorite map of all time. Granted, there are other maps out there by fan-made Doom WADs that destroy this map, but it was the first map I ever played (as a kid) that made me realize just how complex a Doom map could be. That's why it's still my favorite.
There are some maps from the classic Doom universe that you completely forget about after playing through them, and then there are maps that remain in your heart and soul forever. This level is the latter. 👍
Also my favourite map in Plutonia. I like cities in Doom just because of the complexity of making such kind of theme, and this map was perfectly designed with great gameplay. Very nice to play it again :) And yes, there is a teleporter in the last room, on the left where there are 2 archviles, but it will take you to the entrance of the room, which means that if you fall into the pit from the exit teleporter, there is no way back up there, for the platforms are already gone down. Therefore, if you are not playing in a row like BigMacDavis, "it is a good thing" (LOL) to save the game before.
I like this map quite a bit too. I just finished it, but before that I was searching for the 138th monster everywhere & it turns out that it’s in the room that requires the blue key beyond those 2 switches. It was a Baron guarding a supercharge/Soul Sphere. I thought that there were 4 Arch-Vile at the end. 🤦♂️
Hey BigMac I’m actually a great fan of both the Original Doom Trilogy series and that I’ve truly have got to admit that I couldn’t think of this map the Odyssey of noises as just simply one of the greatest in Doom the Plutonia Experiment ! 🤗🤗🤗🤗😉😉😉😉
This is the only map in Plutonia that I actually liked lol so glad it's your favorite of all Doom. I'm surprised by how little bullshittery there was on this map compared to the rest of the campaign. Having gone this far though I'm kinda glad I fought through the frustration and gut gud to some degree thanks to the onslaught of chaingunners, archviles, and revenants throughout this campaign.
Can't wait for your Portal Walkthrough. Portal and Portal 2 are my favorite games because it puts two of my favorite Video Game genres together "FPS" & "Puzzle" and also because it's just such an awesome and perfectly designed game. ^^
Wow! Seeing this party when At Doom's Gate plays in the background reminds me of the second half of Super Columbine Massacre RPG, in which you fight off many enemies of Doom in hell while the same music plays there. Now that's what I call one hell of a party! Oh, and you nearly died at some points, but you made it out okay. Anyways, nice vid. Can't wait for the final part of Plutonia. :)
Also idk if it’s been said yet but 18:54 when you say you don’t know if there’s a teleporter down there, there is & when you take it it puts you right back up top.
In reference to the exit, I saved a game before going up the stairs. Then I made a normal exit, and went back to the saved game to see if there is a teleporter in the exit pit. I I remember right there is but I don't remember where it sends you. I have played this map lots of times and still get lost. But I do like to play it.
The Arachnotron at the start behind the Chain gunner building is designed like that. The right window facing the street makes rockets disappear (I play Doom on Skulltag)but not plasma shots. I just used the other window to fire at the Arachnotron
Niiiice... There's another one currently ongoing by a chap named GalleyUK. He has a different style. He essentially plays through the game at a standard walkthrough pace while using annotations as commentary instead of his voice. Excellent channel overall.
The only other map I know that's a city is Downtown in Doom 2. I love this map with the buildings, cobblestone pavements and the red sky, which make such a wonderful city!
Learn how to build a map based in an urban setting, whoever designed downtown from Doom 2. Is the capital city of hell, and the cyberdemon is the mayor. The problem with the big maps os when you have to travel long distances without nothing to do, through empty spaces. Through this map, you have plenty to do, almost around every corner
Haha it's my favourite map in Plutonia too; its the right challenge for the right size and seems to have a doom 2 feel to it. I also like how its less linear than the other levels.
Map24 of VIle Flesh (probably one of my favourite ever maps), Map19 of Epic 2, CC2 Map15 I know people refrain from making city maps as they are hard to make with logical progression as you always feel that every buildng in the playing area has to be available to explore which can easily make things confusing. There will be lots of city maps coming out soon with D2INO and D2TWID coming out :P
Ah yes of course :) Some vile flesh maps are quite basic and have a few bugs/misalignments, but there are still some excellent maps in there. Especially episode 3 which throws up some strange but good themes.
BigMacDavis... I’ve watched all your walkthroughs up to this point. Don’t get me wrong though, I like to play through on my own first, then go back and check for secrets. All in all, & long story short... You tha fuccin’ man with the sickest plan! For a game with no Z axis, no jump action, and nothing but impossible mazes, you sure help a lot of people who played a lot back in the day, but since forgot all the awesome tricks, traps, and secrets. So, thank you for your dedication to your craft and just know, that this one game has the ability to make a person absolutely gobsmacked and wish for death. For death is sometimes better than dickin’ around in a fricken unbeatable maze full of Archviles and Cyberdeamons. Thanks buddy. P.s.- I’m pretty sure I got ya like 9 subscribers hahaha
With Brutal Doom mod this map is even more awesome. You can snipe out enemies using sniper rifle, railgun (it is taken from Skulltag source port, similar to GZDoom) or even rocket launcher with a scope. Also there is tank here which is also awesome (however tank is vulnerable to Arachnotron's plasma and Cyberdemon's rockets, otherwise is almost indestructible). Agreed that it is probably the best map in commercial classic Doom releases, too bad that it is so few of them.
Pinkies - When I originally played Doom I just thought oh some of the Demons have partial invisibility, just like me. Because the shape and behavior are the same. Sooo, Pinky but not really because you can’t see its color. It even has a different name: Spectre.
very true, it looks better than the Doom 2 city maps too. Damn I will miss the finale to plutonia tomorrow as I'm out of town for the next couple of days for a job interview. I will be 20% cooler and watch it after everyone else XD
So Mac, with good reason, you love this map. Its huge, badass, well designed. Its awesome. Now, get to Plutonia 2 will ya? Then we can talk about Map 29 : ticket to eternity. ;)
Bloody hell... that is an amazing city map! Whichever brother designed this map is a fucking genius, and probably mad too. :D Well done. I cannot wait to see this showdown! I'll be sad to see this walk-through go at the same time though... I thought I heard mention of Half-Life being next? I may be wrong.
I never get tired of these walkthroughs.
To me, this map has elements of "Downtown" from Doom 2, but it's larger, more complex, and superior.
They basically took maps from Doom II and updated them cause I have seen several similarities in other maps.
@@Kinnakeeter Plutonia feels like the Casali Brothers saw Doom 2 and said, "We can make Doom 2 better, harder, faster, and way more fun to play."
Also, the ending part of this map is similar to Map 8 of Doom II, which is "Tricks and Traps"
@@marcoe.3314 "way more fun to play" hahahhahaa

In my humble opinion, this is one of your best videos ever, along with Go 2 It. Very fun levels, and I never get tired of watching!
The only minor gripe I have about this map is that there weren't armies of enemies in the streets.
cyberdemons and masterminds walking on the streets would be awesome

Niiiice...
There's another one currently ongoing by a chap named GalleyUK. He has a different style. He essentially plays through the game at a standard walkthrough pace while using annotations as commentary instead of his voice. Excellent channel overall.
By the time I got there the cyberdemon was already dead so I guess there was some infighting 😂
The only other map I know that's a city is Downtown in Doom 2. I love this map with the buildings, cobblestone pavements and the red sky, which make such a wonderful city!
Totally socked in the best way when I firsted played this map its incredible.
I love that commentary at 5:47 "Maybe that pinky is out to party?" Perhaps a new installment of Doom, "Pinkies Gone Wild!" ;)
Haha it's my favourite map in Plutonia too; its the right challenge for the right size and seems to have a doom 2 feel to it. I also like how its less linear than the other levels.
Ese tema de fondo me recuerda al hangar del primer Doom
Map24 of VIle Flesh (probably one of my favourite ever maps), Map19 of Epic 2, CC2 Map15
I know people refrain from making city maps as they are hard to make with logical progression as you always feel that every buildng in the playing area has to be available to explore which can easily make things confusing.
There will be lots of city maps coming out soon with D2INO and D2TWID coming out :P
15:59, how in the world did that rocket not hit you!?
cuz he's BigMacDavis. He does what he wants, when he wants, and however he wants to o about doig such.
Maybe read the coding physics of the rockets.
One of the only decent city maps in all of doom. Definitely the best city map it has such a good design compared to all the others.
I have never played Plutonia, but now i pretty much have to.
So, did you finish it?
Ah yes of course :)
Some vile flesh maps are quite basic and have a few bugs/misalignments, but there are still some excellent maps in there. Especially episode 3 which throws up some strange but good themes.
So Hell just open under a city... AWESOME XD
Very cool.
15:18 Aha, Missile-seeking doom guy. That's funny
Thanks, my friend, your videos look pretty cool too.
I wonder why it’s called “Odyssey of Noises.” It makes the same noises as other maps.
"Too many pinkies". I see what you did there :D
That Pinkys' with The Brain 🤣😂
this map totally influenced duke nukem 3d's level designs or was it the other way around?
Pinkies - When I originally played Doom I just thought oh some of the Demons have partial invisibility, just like me. Because the shape and behavior are the same. Sooo, Pinky but not really because you can’t see its color. It even has a different name: Spectre.
very true, it looks better than the Doom 2 city maps too. Damn I will miss the finale to plutonia tomorrow as I'm out of town for the next couple of days for a job interview. I will be 20% cooler and watch it after everyone else XD
Rofl every time you say "Odyssey of Noises" I almost feel like you are addressing my nickname.
Shut up
Every megawad's map 29 is memorable.
on the last map archfile is killed instantly with bfg, but game designers meant you to have a hellish time with it teleporting around.
Walkthrough's almost over. What are you going to do next, finish Ultimate Doom or start Doom II?
My favorite map is between this and "Tricks n Traps."
Using an engine like zdoom is great with this map so you can use mouselook.
Played this map with my girlfriend, turns out in multiplayer there's an extra Cyberdemon in the streets. That was fun. Great map though!
First time I've looked up the location of a final enemy.
I'm planing on doing a Let's Play of All the original Dooms in Zandronum.
