just curious if this is just my family or others have this problem too but..
I really want to take advanced classes next year and I feel I'm up for it, but my parents say that I proved that I couldn't handle it at the beginning of last school year (I nearly got a 4.0 GPA at the end of it all but I guess that's irrelevant) so they went to my school and had all my classes changed and they nearly signed me up for band when I told them that I didn't want to take it. So now I'm stuck in whatever classes they want me to take and they're all the easiest, most basic and boring classes the school has to offer. They're reasoning for this? As I said I apparently proved my incapability of passing such classes, that taking basic classes would prove that I could handle advanced ones, and that this was a punishment for, and I'm paraphrasing here but this is pretty much what they said, not studying as much as I should have. Oh, and they think that taking basic classes (where people don't really care about the class much and just talk to each other) will help me become "normal". They don't seem to comprehend that I'm not the only slightly antisocial introvert in the world. They think anyone who doesn't really like to talk much, meet new people, or has less than 10 true friends is abnormal and should be taking antidepressants (and yes at one point they tried).

I have a little story... So basically my brother when he was little he liked playing soccer, but my mom said he should stop wasting his time and become another profesion like doctor or computer expert, but my brother said he would one day become a soccer player. Even my dad said he is just going to end up homeless, without a job and his friends will succeed more than him. So one day he got shouted for taking back because he said I will become a soccer player.... He felt like he wasn't getting support from his parents, he even thought of sucide....... But then one time at school he played a game there then some scouts drive by and wanted to take a look how good the players where, they caught my brother doing very good, they then came to him after school and asked if he could train with them to show the scouts how good he really is. But he needed to talk to his parents so he asked them but they didn't belive him, because they thought he was going to a gang. Then he called the coach if he could take him, and they did, after the training the coach was impressed, so they offered him a professional contract to play with youth clubs of big teams. 7 years later, he is now playing in a professional soccer team, in Montreal impact

I used to be scared to give my opinion on things because everytime my parents asked me a question I would say my answer and they would always scold me for picking "the wrong answer" and tell me to pick the other instead. I always thought my answer would be wrong so everytime someone asked me a question I got used to saying "idk" everytime bc I was scared they'd yell at me for picking what I wanted instead of what they wanted. When I went to a restaurant with my aunt one day she asked me what I wanted and I said "idk..." and I was very hesitant and anxious to hear her reply. She asked me why I always said idk whenever someone asked me a question and I was silent. However my aunt is a family psychologist so she kinda figured what was going on on her own lol. She told me that I should've be afraid to give an answer because the question is for the own benefit of myself, and if I was able to tell people what I wanted I could get it, instead of getting something I didn't want. Till now I'm still a little anxious to answer people's questions but I improved a lot since about a year or two ago :)

My parents care more about my grades than my personality. I try so hard to be nice, and I really do give it my all on school work, but I have grades just good enough to get by. My sisters are honestly just the worst people I've met in my life, and they cheat on schoolwork and tell my parents about it. My mother has told me "If cheating would make your grades better then do it". Yes, I do get frustrated a lot with the fact that everyone around me is doing their work easily and I just don't understand. But I'm also comforted at school knowing that I am surrounded by people that I love. We go through everything together. If I get into college then I'm satisfied. Because when we die, no one is going to say "They made straight A's" at their funeral. They are going to say "They were such a kindhearted person. They always wanted to make people happy" and that's what I aspire to be remembered as. It saddens me that we are given 13 years to form a bond with these people that we are around every single day and some of them don't even know each other's names. When we met we were 5 years old, when we leave, we are adults. Some of the most valued lessons I have learned at school by teachers and classmates, were not even about school.

first last I actually have a friend who kinda has parents like yours, although I'm pretty sure that they don't encourage cheating and they still care about personality. Unlike your parents, instead of just telling and forcing her to get high grades, they actually push her to the limit and now she's smart.(kinda, I'm saying kinda because although she's a good student, she's only considered a little bit above average to me.) I really do feel bad for her having to put up with her parents harsh ways though sometimes. I agree with the fact that parents should focus on personality as much as grades, maybe even more. My parents currently want me to have a good personality for me to better fit society, and I feel like that's a step into the right direction for both me and them. I also agree that the greatest lessons of all are not learned in school, but through the bonds we've built throughout our lives. I hope you can still survive under your parents' roof.

Me: I know I can easily get a B, but *all of us got a bad grade!*
Mom: I don't care about OTHER, I care about YOU.
    Me: *rolls eyes*
    Mom: What did (input_name) get?
    Me: An A, ofc...
Mom: WHY COULDN'T YOU GET A GRADE LIKE (input name)!?
Me: Because (input name) is good at math!
Mom: (input name) studied more than you..!
Me: You said you don't care about the othe...
    Mom: I. AM. SPEAKING.

I might be the only one with this problem, But do you ever feel ur parents Dont trust u. LIKE AT ALL? they might have ur teacher as a contact to find out when u do and don't have hw or they might be checking in ur backpack every now and AGAIN. and they dont do this for ANY of ur other siblings as much as they DO TO YOU. and U might have told a few fibs here and there when U were younger but ur older now and ur generally an honest person. Not only that but they compare u with ur older siblings and WHATS WORST is they compare u to ur younger sibling and friends saying things like " Ur little sister is a better role model than u" or "ur little brother is getting much better grades than u are" or even things like " ur so skiny, ur friends arent skinny maybe u should ask them for tips"
sometimes my parents are my bffs but other times they make me wanna just scream. Like and reply if any of these things happen to u.

My mom never understood me...she always compared me to my siblings and my friends. She is really changed. Sometimes I get irritated and go to my room without letting her complete, and then she would again compare me like "Look at her, she is so well behaved and look at you". Once or twice its okay but everyday just pisses me off. Thankfully my dad is not like that. He understands me, but again my mom tells my dad not to pamper me that much or else I'll misbehave....Parents really think that kids these days are independent. But they don't understand that they have to 'make' us independent.....

good for you coz it's only your mom but not for me/us siblings but I guess my mom is nothing compared to my dad , coz he will just usually supplement to what our mom is saying. They're both teachers and they can relate to students who are unfortunates and they always compare us with their students especially with those who are intelligent, they say like you should be like my student like us we always do that and this and blablabla but the truth is we're not really below average in terms of studying almost all of us are honors (not bragging) even though we're just like in second, third but both of most of their reactions are like "why are you only in second in third place you should have studied more you should have done this and blablabla ( then they start comparing again) instead of complimenting us. We expect them to react like "WOW we are so proud of our children we should celebrate and we should buy you what you want" but in reality it's the opposite. And it really upsets us and I believe the effect of that kind of attitude of parents really plays a huge part on the development of their child and we are the result of them sometimes we thought like getting a honorable place in school do us nothing instead it just make our parents compare us to others and we're no longer inspired/motivated at all if we get an honor we're like "okay" we dont care bout it anymore even we get it or not it's still the same....BUT BTW WE STILL REALLY REALLY REALLY VERY MUCH LOVE THEM

Just realised my mum makes all of those mistakes... like ALL of those mistakes mentioned here. She makes a bunch of other mistakes too:
    1) She humiliates me in front of others and treats me like I am the worst person in the world.
    2) She doesn't let me choose anything and she makes decisions about me on her own.
3)She forces me to learn French but I hate them.
    4) She has never given me the chance to express my self and talk to her about what she does wrong etc.
    5) She never understands me, she never gets what I say to her and If I just say something, she is gonna change my words and make me sound wrong while im actually right.

More seriously, you should go to a psychologist. It could actually prove to be a good thing to get out all the bad things you've accumulated over the years. Maybe then, you'll find a way to behave differently and more accordingly to your mother's reactions.

that last example was the cruel reality
u forgot something parents say these days ( at least in my country ) :
    internet is bad for u...
sure kids and teenagers can get addicted to internet by a game or in social media and other stuff but that doesnt mean the whole internet is a bad influence instead a parent should try to guide their kid on the good side of the internet not trying to prevent it from having access to it just because there are dangers in it.. life itself is a danger u can get crushed by a car and never be able to walk again does that mean that u have to stop going outside and stay in a house all of your life ? NO
then why stop using internet its a similar concept to the car one

I'm not strong so I sometimes struggle to win the ball but no matter what happens I'll play on... I even broke my thumb once somehow... But what you said is 100% true... It always makes me sad when she starts saying how he is better than me :( She would always yell at me for getting a C or D while he got an A or B on a test. I tell her to stop comparing me and that I am different from him but she says it's an excuse for not studying. I do study, but I have a different mind set. I'm not him or anyone else. He's just smarter than me and is better at different subjects than me. So parents, don't compare your kids, just let them be there self :)

I never actually met my dad until a few days ago. I'm going to be turning 14 this year and he now comes into my life. He has 5 other kids that are from 2 different mothers. I'm technically the older one out of all of them, but I don't feel anything. After I met him, my life just continues as normal. He's just that one person that has to be in my life that I don't even care about because he was never there for me. My mom even said, "Watch, one day you're going to be successful and he's going to want to crawl back in your life even though he has never been there for you." I understand him on one thing (that's he has to take care of his restaurants) but it doesn't really explain why he was never there from the beginning. Now I wish he never existed.

Dawabbit AJ I think that's basically due to not having enough time socialising and hanging out with friends....
So basically, the Parent doesn't let their child play with other kids that much which could lead to low self-esteem (Since you have no friends) which leads to depression.
      That's just my observation.

Depression can be caused by genetics or by any kind of difficult environment. Anxiety and extreme stress can lead to depression as well as any other mental disorder or physical disorder. Other people are right about lack of socialization from others whether their parents allow them to socialize or that other kids may not want to socialize back. Also many kids suffer from depression because of abuse, internal conflict, or from not having any specific reasoning at all. I could go on and on but these arent all the reasons for someones depression. Besides anyone can have depression it just may not be as severe as others. How i know this? I have anxiety and depression.... plus ive studied in psychology and sociology

Another important thing! Teach them about consent as soon as possible. Don't make them give their family members a kiss and a cuddle if they don't want to, don't get all up in their face if they don't want you to, tell them that they can't do things to other people without permission as well! Use the example of, "if you want to give your friend a hug, but they don't want a hug, just give them a wave instead." Don't make your child do things that they don't want to do, make sure they are in their comfort zone and they'll learn to do the same to others.

If you buy a kid everything and they keep wanting other stuff, it's probably just because they're spoiled. I'm happy with how I grew up, although sometimes I may act a bit spoiled. I'm only thirteen right now. My mom has never really told me I can't have a job I want, but she also doesn't exactly tell me I can. She more explains how it would work out and how I should do research. I wanted to be an artist and author and she told me that I need some type of other job alongside art with more pay so I decided to be a cartoonist and author when I get older. I was around a lot of arguments when I was younger and my older brother needed more attention than me sometimes but I completely understand that. There are some things parents can't help. I kind of disagree with the part of the video that says that you shouldn't scold children in front of people, I think that they need to know they did something wrong and that there's consequences even if the consequences are getting told off in public. I guess I won't know until I am older though.

People need to watch videos like this before deciding to bring kids into the world. I love kids and few would readily admit to disliking them. But you have to think about how you will adapt ego-wise to the addition of another unique human being to your life. Many just have kids to pass on genes, and that's it. Truth bomb: a child is not an extension of their parent. They are a separate individual. I love beets, but if my kid spits them out? I won't call them names or force feed them. I'll just feed them something else they like. I know by the time I have a child I am going to get heat for treating my child as an actual human being. But luckily I think my generation is coming around to the idea that kids aren't just some kind of tiny 'mini-me.' They deserve nurturing and support to grow into healthy adults.

In my softball tournament this girl on my team was probably one of my best friends on the team started breaking down and we all asked her what's wrong she said:My parents made me do this I don't wanna do this anymore! And the coach let her sit out I could hear her mom yelling and the crying getting louder

Most of the comments on this video are privileged 1st world kids that think their parens are THE WORST because they don't give them what they want. Or they make them get of their lazy butts and do something physical, but this one is a real concern. That is a truly unreasonable parent.

I never had a life outside my family,no social life, no friends, no nothing. I wish I could tell my mom how I really feel, about everything. I always lie to her every now and then and I feel bad about it. I still and will always love my mother because she worked so hard to give me a life she could never have.

A mistake that my mom made is pretty much the last example. Everyone on my moms family (including her) want me to be a chef, because I wanted to be a chef when I was, like, 8 years old. But now, I want to be an author, and I'm afraid to tell them the truth

GG same. My mom wants me to be a doctor but I feel like I have more potential as an artist. My mom says I could do both but I can't seem to tell her the truth. I'm not interested into becoming a doctor. and I'm scared of ending up unhappy or making my mom unhappy. The worst part is that I have trypanophobia which means I'm scared of needles. *sigh* I feel your pain bro

    • @denver9290
      @denver9290 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

If you want to be an artist, be an artist. You shouldn't have to be unhappy (and fearful) your entire life just to please another person. Your mom might be disappointed at first and maybe a little angry, but eventually she'll see that your happy and if you're happy, she'll be happy. It's a mother's goal in life to make their child happy. Even if she for some odd reason doesn't support you being an artist, I say go for it anyways. You could live your entire life being in a career you hate or you could stand up to your mom and tell her who you really want to be and be happy. and for help with your argument if you ever decide to tell your mom, being a doctor AND an artist is very unlikely considering how incredibly busy doctors are. Plus, if you ever want to be a mom, you will never see your kids. As an artist you'd be able to be a huge part of your kids lives but doctors have literally no time. My mom's doctor actually quit a few years ago becaue she never got to see her kids. Good Luck and I really do hope that you follow your passion

My mom compares me to my older brother all the time. I also remember getting lost in a store once and asking someone who worked there to help me find my mom, and once we found her she slapped me in front of everybody for 'running away.' I still don't understand that situation.

If i want that (even though it's not dangerous nor good), they'll give me somethin that i don't want (i sure know parents advice is always good, but i can't get what i want). And because of their behaviour is bad to me, i ended up as somethin that they don't want... Just like that last clip... Hope they can trust me next time.
