For someone who wants a "base" full size truck and their in it for the long haul - for longevity it's not a terrible thing that your getting a slightly detuned version of the twin turbo V6.

I like this truck. Toyota tuned it for reliability and longevity like the famous GX/Tundra V8 301 hp 4.6L and snuck in the same safety features as the top lines. Two things kill it for me as an off-roader: no option for locking rear differential, and a 22-gallon gas tank with no option for 32/38. With Toyota's conservative fuel tank warnings, this means your gas light goes off at like 300 miles in city driving, 375 on the highway. Although, both of those could be added after-market :D Cool truck, great work as always Jeff.

I do agree to WAIT at least until August or so before buying one to help Toyota mitigate some of the issues that have popped up....which is smart even with Toyota's...this generation has a HUGE amount of changes, probably the most-ever for Tundra!! Any news on how they are selling?

After cross shopping the ‘24 F150 and Tundra SR5, TRD trims- finally went with the base “contractor special” SR in black. Couldn’t justify
extra $10k for a few extra HP, wheels and rarely used features. There’s a lot included on the base SR. Out the door for just over $41k- very happy with it so far. Will likely add rims/tires when the stockers are worn out. Added a step bar for $150 and fender flares for $80. It’s a personal choice, but for me, SR is a good value for the money.

Hi Jeff! The less power and torque doesn't matter to me as I don't tow, but I will need a bed that's useful: I haul hay for horses, but never large enough amounts that I need a trailer. Everything else is window dressing; I have a 2005 Tundra and have never driven anything particularly luxurious (Although my grandmother has a fully loaded 2016 Mazda CX-5) so whatever luxury it doesn't have is not something I'm going to miss. It already is more powerful and has more torque than the 4.7 V8, and while my truck's previous owner modernized it with a touch screen head unit and a backup camera, it's a 2005 vs. a 2022. I mentioned to you some time ago wondering if the SR had nine speakers in it (though I may have been on my mobile account). From what I understand is, every Crewmax tundra does. My 2005 has a JBL system with 8 speakers, so this base SR already beats it. I'm willing to bet the audio engineering is better, too.
Bit of a shame Toyota doesn't offer the hybrid at all trim levels the way Ford does for their Powerboost - I imagine that without all the extra features the I-force Max would give better mpg - but that's only speculative.
The SR more than meets my needs - now just to get the cash to afford one. Even base models are expensive these days.

SR's on the last generation had the gear shift on the steering wheel instead of where the 6th seat would be, really disappointed to see them move away from that. Makes city driving a breeze. If Toyota would've put a V6 with no twin turbo, I probably would've gotten that Tundra. But I get it, all people nowadays care about is more power and more power. The more horse power it has, the more attractive it is. Even if it sacrifices reliability because a lot of people don't even keep their vehicles for that long anymore.

You asked so here goes...I think the 2022 is without question the ugliest truck on the market. After all the hype, was promised to be a game changer, was told it would be class leading in everything. Reality is that it is that it leads in nothing, gets only a tiny bit better mileage, has lots of issues with the turbos, fit and finish etc is ugly AF but at least it is ridiculously expensive. So disappointed in Toyota on this vehicle. Huge fail.

But you don’t talk about the 8 foot bed
You don’t talk about options upgrades
You don’t talk about some people don’t like chrome
You can get all the upgrades
    For 70k
Leather with heat and cooling seats
    It’s about OPTIONS

So what, its still cheaper than the domestic brands, you can opt those options in and get a good deal, not a deal breaker at all bro, its still a Toyota, even with 348 HP, its got power.

Wouldn't it be great IF TOYOTA GAVE CONSUMERS A STEEL FRONT BUMPER AND A REAR LIKE ITS PREDECESSORS? MAYBE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF A WINTCH ATTACHMENT AS AN OPTION? HOW ABOUT YELLOW AMBER TURNING LIGHTS FOR THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS instead they give you a cheap plain old red. Why do I say this, is because yellow is a bit more noticeable than red that blends in with the brake lights, be seen when turning or hazard lights.

  • @jamesthomas7977

One thing I find to be weird about the new Tundra is that only the lower trims have the additional storage space above the glove box. The upper trims have it blocked off. Why is that?

Add 4x4 and black rims and it’s a deal.
