I worked for M&S IT head office when John Lewis released this advert. Everyone knew they had blown us out of the water with the excellence, filming, creativity, music and storytelling with this advert. I am not sure if M&S has ever recovered when it comes to promotion of the Festive Season 🎄

I personally really LOVE this version. It is soft and raw. Not all songs have to be these killer ballads or driving tempos. There is beauty in the soft honesty of this song.

How could you disgrace one of the most beautiful and powerful songs of all time like this? I am a musician myself and although I cover songs, I could never imagine profiting off of a masterpiece that is not my own. Watch him sing it live and you can feel the genuine disparity in his voice. This man poured his heart into this song regardless of his permission. I feel nothing from this version.
If there's one thing this version and the John Lewis ad prove - it's what a wonderful lyricist the poet laureate Morrisey actually is.
You could hear her privileged life in her voice. No emotion, NO LIFE! Morrisey poured his soul into this song, and sang it like a god.

The thing is: once you put something out for public consumption, every person is going to have their own interpretation of it. Every person that reads the same book, reads a different story. They fill in the gaps, and create the scenes with their own imagination. This is an excellent and personal interpretation of an excellent song. I personally love it, and am very glad it was done.

I heard this version first and I was really in love with the song from the first time the notes engulfed my surroundings. I looked it up and I was so glad it was the Smiths. Still the cover is wonderful. Shows how much a song can be altered and still be equally if not more, fantastic.

Why are people constantly complaining about this? She is just like you, she obviously loves the original by The Smiths, so much so that she just wanted to make a cover of it to show her appreciation! She didn't do it to piss people off... The general consensus is that people like it seeing as there are more likes than dislikes and The Smiths also said they like it so stop complaining and just enjoy it! It's a good cover
