I was very pleased to watch this movie. My great-grandmother was born in Dundee. See moved to Holland when she was 17 y old and where she married my great-grandfather. 40 y ago I visited Dundee and walked through the streets where she grew up. My mother told me that she drank a glass of whisky every day, till she died when she was 92 y old. Thanks Steve...this was a meaningful movie for me! Keep going!
Glad you guys enjoyed your day out visiting all those pubs. Have to say i was very impressed that you always returned your glasses to the bar when you were leaving ! :)
This video was hilarious. The two of you together and the banter made it even more enjoyable. A feel good vid!! I don't know how you managed to stay upright, I would've been under the table after the second pub. I just wish I could give you more than one like!
I never thought I'd enjoy watching a couple on a pub crawl, but, I actually did. What was interesting was how, as the day went on your reviews became more and more enthusiastic. Can't figure out why that was ... hhmmm.
Awesome watch guys from here in New Zealand. I was born in NZ but went to Dundee (Wormit to be precise) as my Dad (Dundee born and bred) was in the merchant navy. Lived there until I was 5yo and returned to NZ where I have remained. 50 years on (this year) and I still haven't been back to Dundee 😞. It is my desire to travel back and find the graves of my grandparents and pay my respects. It is amazing from videos from Steve how many things remain vivid in my memory from when I was so young. The emotional attachment remains so strong. In the above video @2:05 I remembered exactly the building (recalled a tall glass facade) where Boots is where I used to get a wee Matchbox car when we went there like it was yesterday - probably been refurbished and modernised since then). Keep up the great work. I loved how organic and naturally flowing the video was too. Just for reference my grandparents lived in a wee village called Rait, then Monifieth, then Broughty Ferry until they passed. I'll need to check out some of the latter's pubs too when I get back....
I just love Alicjia's laugh. Makes me smile. BTW. Start your pub crawls a little later, say 2-3 in the afternoon and it all fades into the tea time drinking which is the best time of the day. Feel free to ignore my advice as most folks do. Keep up the good work guys.
Another great video. I regularly travel up to Edinburgh and Glasgow for work. Now you’ve given me a reason to stop by and spend a weekend in Dundee. Enjoyed your take on the pubs and the banter between you and Alicja priceless. Keep up the good work, you too 👍
"Dundee doesn't have the choice of bigger cities", he says! Well, you two, you found some belters there! That's my kind of travelogue - a glorious pub-crawl. Mind you, that special moment when the glass jumped out of Alicja's hand- "Oh sh**", I shouted! I was astonished to see all the palm trees in the park as you strolled between pubs though; Costa Tay! And that lunch spot - what a bargain! You did well to stay upright long enough to catch the train home guys. That was fun to watch! It's Saturday night down here in Northumberland, and I fancy a dram after watching you both. Thanks for letting us all tag along with you!
Hi Steve, I absolutely loved this video! It was a real memory trip for me. I went to the University of Dundee in the early 90s and visited the Phoenix a lot. It’s just as I remember it. I had a friend who lived in Broughty Ferry and like you too I preferred going out there with him on a Saturday night. I had many brilliant evenings in the Ship, the Fisherman’s, and I think the Anchor. Sometimes we’d end up in Buddies night club which was always an experience! I’m going back there in August on a nostalgia trip and can’t wait.
Now that I enjoyed! The Lemmings were a staple of my childhood in the 90s and I took a selfie with the statues when I was in Dundee over a year ago. I'm guessing Aberdeen pub crawl next? Best make sure Alicja has the next day off work just in case! 😂

Guys it’s been long time no speak from me but I’ve still been watching avidly. Another masterpiece from you’s two, looked like a brilliant day despite the 1or2 mishaps (personally they’re the days I always remember most fondly in the end); well done for lasting all day. Strangely just a couple of weeks ago I had an email reminder that I’ve booked to go on a group tour around Poland in September- and I’d forgotten all about it (no I haven’t constantly been drinking for the last 9 months since I last made a payment towards it 😅😅) and once again another one of your videos has given me more inspiration and probably yet more expense!!! Cheers 🍻 I think!!!
This reminds me a bit of The Longest Crawl by Ian Marchant, the account of his journey with his friend, to travel the length of Britain visiting numerous famous and not so famous pubs on the way. The plan was to start at the most southerly pub (Scilly Isles) and finish at the most northerly (Baltasound). It's a very engrossing and amusing book full of stories and history. I recommend it for a very good read. Bill
Another wonderful video. Love that you worry that the videos won’t turn out well. I have enjoyed everyone and look forward to Saturdays to see what you are up to. Did I miss it? How much did you spend on your drinks and what were you drinking? What fun. Love the giggles.
@@steve-marshIn retrospect that sounds like it was a very personal question that I asked. Sorry about that. You frequently give us prices and I was just curious what a day of drinking would cost. I apologize if I was intrusive.
Superb video, so much fun…you guys are so good to watch! Definitely not an awful video, I feel like I’ve actually been out with you both tonight having a great time, thank you 😊
A great authentic video Steve. You were both beginning to slever away like poachers' dugs towards the end ! I have a confession to make, although I do not come from anywhere near Dundee I have visited all the pubs on your list, apart from The Tinsmith and Gunners. The Ferry is a nice wee place and The Royal Anchor just shades it from The Ship Inn. In Dundee, Phoenix Bar just shades it from The Speedwell and The Pillars. I like them all - without wishing to be compared to over-indulgent day trippers from Montrose !! The reason I am so well acquainted with the pubs so far from my home (the Glasgow area) is that I have been researching my mother's side of the family who came from Dundee and Kirkton of Auchterhouse (the family name was Fenwick). I do remember finding somewhere in my researches that Phoenix Bar got its name from the very first owner, who was also a Dundee wine merchant, called Peter Fenwick .... it was Fenwicks !!! Anyway, I couldn't find a link to him and my mother's family. Without bias, however, I would say that the overall winner was Phoenix Bar.
@Grangeburn ....my mothers side are from near kirkton of auchterhouse and a place called PITEMPTON (strathmartine/craigmill) .....many delaminated gravestones still survive in local cemetery at Craigmill....think some stones go back to 1700 or before ....before then from kettins/blairgowrie,cortachy and before then edinburgh.........current family still in same area hundreds of years later - we hate moving house :))
I found my great-grandfather's family gravestone in the graveyard of the Kirk in Kirkton of Auchterhouse. David Fenwick was his name and he was the village blacksmith. We are talking roughly around the years 1860 - 1890. His son Alexander married an Elizabeth Noonan from Dundee. My grandpa and grandma were shunned by both sides of the family as he was Kirk and she was Catholic. She gave birth to their son before being married in the Kirk at Logie? in Dundee. The Fenwicks are scattered all over the world, as are the Noonans. @@geoffdundee
@@Grangeburn ...there was a Fenwicks blacksmiths in dundee from 1905 until 2015 which went bankrupt due to loss of contracts......im sure there was a Fenwicks hardware store in Dundee around mid 1980s too......they were probably all related to you in some way....its an unusual surname too.
Fenwicks Blacksmith were at - 2 Fairfield Street Dundee. newspaper article from 2015.. A leading Dundee blacksmiths has gone into provisional liquidation with the loss of 14 jobs. Fenwick Blacksmiths was founded in 1904 and had an annual turnover of about £800,000, but was hit hard when fellow city firm and key customer Muirfield Contracts went into administration. The business has closed with immediate effect, with all 14 staff let go. The firm's assets, including property, vehicles and machinery, will now be sold off. Liquidator Tom MacLennan, of FRP Advisory, said: "Fenwick Blacksmiths was a highly regarded specialist blacksmith business with a good customer base. The administration of Muirfield Contracts meant that the company was unable to continue trading. "This is a difficult time for the staff and we will provide as much support to them as possible."
This was fantastic. So great to see you both on this pub adventure crawl. It was excellent. Also inviting you to the other end of Canada. Come to the rockies, you will love it.
I will be visiting Dundee in May. Planning to see St Andrews and Perth. Really looking forward to it. Your videos have really helped giving me and my family ideas. Thank you again
Why Perth, Steven? It’s not a town I’d recommend anymore- it was fab 15 years ago. It’s really gone downhill after three department stores shut. Dunfermline has more going for it than Perth and I never thought I’d ever say that!
I personally wouldn’t hit most of those bars in Dundee city centre on a Friday or Saturday night but search for cocktail bars or wine bars. There is a nice bar and food in the DCA. If it’s a week night just try any of the bars he went to. 😊
Loved, loved this adventure! Would like to repeat your stops someday as I've only been to the pubs in Ireland....which were great, too. I give you two a lot of credit, as I doubt that I could last the entire day. Bravo!
Great video! Me and my friends recently did 7 pub crawl in London, all pubs that were around before the great fire of London and still pubs today, really good day out
Except that half the places they go to aren't in Northumberland or they change the names, I stopped watching after half way through the first episode of the last series as the lack of any proper police procedures is just naff.
Steve you two are just excellent, Great Pub Crawl!!! Makes me want to book a flight from Ecuador and come join you two on adventure! Thanks so much for this!!
Another great video , good to see both of you 😊 . Y'all are my favorite youtubers . I would love to visit Scotland . I'm in the U.S. state of Georgia .
No problem with the video, Steve, always interesting to see you out and about and even more so when Alicja has you in tow! She is a real bonus - always puts a grin on my face when I see she is included in the show! More please!
Oh wow, that was a fantastic video. Can't believe I put off watching it just because you said it was bad. Such a lot of fun. Like an afternoon out at a cosy pub or two!
Hey Steve, New Time Patreon and Long Time Fan here, love seeing your (and sometimes A's) Adventures. You have insprised me to travel these unusual journeys more and Inverness and Dundee are on my list of places to go this summer after an overnight sleeper from Londo, so good to see some pub options to go to while I am there!
I enjoyed your pub crawl. One of the reasons I like going to Scotland. Pubs are unique and sooooo old! I will be in Rothesay in August so may have to do some pub crawling there. Alicia is such a trooper. Hugs to you both. Cheers
This was a fun trip to through the ages. Historically, Pubs were the meeting places and even hotels for travelers. Thank you for this journey to the past. My grandmother owned and operated a roadside inn and pub when my grandfather died. She raised my Dad and his twin sister succesfully. Loved this video. Thank you both.
Nice video, but a little unfair on the Dundee pubs - expecting an atmosphere on a Monday morning. I was in Mennie's (The Speedwell) the day after you - as the painting had just been finished. It's the best trad bar by far - cask ales, best whisky collection I've seen in a city cente bar for years, no music. Funnily enough I got talking to a Spanish (or Portugese) guy next to me at the bar who was a beer afficianado, and he said he often travelled into Dundee from Broughty Ferry (where he lived), just to have a beer in Mennie's. Mennie was the name of the German lady who ran the bar in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Love your nails, Alicja. Thanks for taking us on a pub crawl. I'd be apprehensive going into some of the pubs from looking at them from the outside, but not one turned out to be heck no. The pubs are like our Irish pubs, snugs and all.
Thanks for showing us around these fine old pubs around Dundee. Guess I'm too old and burnt out to appreciate liquid spirits at 11am with no food. Videoing much quieter before ,say, tea time. But coffee, food, exploring seems to feel more comfortable around American 'toddy time' (5:30p) when drinking really picks up. I'm glad you youngsters are enjoying all the drink offerings and still have healthy livers. Pub crawl for young adventurers. Thanks for bringing us along😊
Thank-you both, you just made my Sunday night, had a laugh and a giggle..it was only a couple of weeks ago my Sister and l went on a Pub crawl, her idea we only managed to visit 6 Hotels but we were drinking Pints at each location and usually 3 or 4 before moving onto the next..i rang in sick the next day for work...what was your stories did you rise and shine...hehe..have to admit though you were both very strong...some of those places were cosy and comfortable it would be so easy to stay and yack to the locals...thanks again regards Doc from Down Under
That pie sounds delicious I have not come across that combination before, it might be worth travelling 400 miles for one. You do make some great videos and I didn’t mention in a previous comment that I had some Scottish ancestry but I forgot to mention I also have a Polish ancestor. Enjoy the pub crawl best thing on a cold day.
Love a steady pub crawl. No mention of the Handsom Cab. Worked on the Asda carpark ( tarmac ) in the late 70's/early 80's. Travelled up from Leeds every Monday morning. Good times were had in that boozer. Fond memories of youth !
Spent nearly 4yrs in Dundee leaving in 2002, still don't think I managed all the pubs, was too busy working in Flares nightclub myself.. A fantastic wee city that I still miss to this day..
Hey, loved watching the Dundee pub crawl. Has given us some inspiration about heading into Dundee (on the bus from Blairgowrie) and trying out some of these quirky pubs! Really loved the video, we understand that it can be difficult to film but you still manage to capture the feel and atmosphere of the pubs. Thank you for entertaining us! 🍻 PS: Alicia, don't cry over spilt beer - it was an accident 😊
I really enjoy your pubcrawl videos! Its cool to see the pubs in Scotland! It was amazing to see how the weather changed so quickly in the video! Im looking forward to the next video in the pubs series! Thanks for making them!
I'm impressed. In my younger days (in 1969) I arranged with a friend that we would walk from the suberbs of Copenhagen, where we lived, to the Town Hall Square in Copenhagen and stop at every bar on the way and have one beer. A tour of less than 20 kilometers. We did'nt recon there would be so many places, so it would be an easy task to do and youh'd probably get sober on the way walking to the next stop. In the beginning, there were some distance between the bars, so it went off quite well. But after a while the bars got more frequent and on around the 10 kilometer mark we were unable to walk or stand, so the project were cancelled. But we had a fun day 😀
Great video :) Reminded me of all the great pubs in Paisley when I was at college in the early '80s - very different to country pubs, and always full of interesting folk.
I have it penciled in to do a walk between them both. I'm glad to still have plenty options for the channel :) I certainly walked through Falkirk on my 'attempted' walk from Edinburgh to Glasgow video
This couldn't have came at a better time! Dundonian here.... Just came off the drink 4 weeks ago - this was a very safe way for me to enjoy the pub from home. Cheers guys! 😀👌
Thanks, Steve, for the memories. I used to live in the Ferry and work in the city. You covered many personal favourites. Historic note. The Fishermans is where I set my (then) long hair on fire. Hogmanay 1973, a date burnt into my memory.
I was at work when I saw you had a new video up. Oh, a pub crawl! I should get in the mood before I watch this! So after work and dinner, I prepared with three rounds of Fireball (smoother if chilled). And what a fun one! Some great looking pubs, Alicja keeping you on schedule, the look of contentment on her face with the milkshake, the burger and chips looked great, and y'all safely made it home. Thanks for the crawl!

@@geoffdundee Sent them an e-mail many years ago but they never got back to me. Couldn’t find a direct link anyway. Thanks Geoff.
I absolutely love your pub videos. So many wonderful places to visit, and you have a remarkable knack of making everything you do interesting.
Loved, loved this adventure! Would like to repeat your stops someday as I've only been to the pubs in Ireland....which were great, too. I give you two a lot of credit, as I doubt that I could last the entire day. Bravo!
Great video! Me and my friends recently did 7 pub crawl in London, all pubs that were around before the great fire of London and still pubs today, really good day out
Cheers from Maine. Steve, you might consider a trip around the Northumberland area for all of the Vera fans
Oh yeah! Vera! I love it! But haven't been able to watch new series as ...don't have a telly! 😮😁🏴🇮🇪🙋
Except that half the places they go to aren't in Northumberland or they change the names, I stopped watching after half way through the first episode of the last series as the lack of any proper police procedures is just naff.
@@RushfanUK
They change them for a reason.
@@BoadiceanRevenge
Don’t have a TV either and never seen a Vera Episode. But watched her filming a programme in Amble by the Sea 🌊
@@Yorkshiremadmick So what is the reason.
I love your pub crawls, need to do more!!Your companion is an absolute delight!!Hope both of you are ok and not suffering too much!!
Dundonoian here.. thanks for visiting and spending money :) Dundee is often missed.
Loving the Lemmings tribute - played that game loads on my humble Commodore Amiga in 90s... while reading Dandy and Beano
Oh wow, that was a fantastic video. Can't believe I put off watching it just because you said it was bad. Such a lot of fun. Like an afternoon out at a cosy pub or two!
Great date day out for both of you love the old pubs 😊😊😊😊😊 I couldn't drink all day espescially in cold weather
Thanks so much mate!!!
I enjoyed your pub crawl. One of the reasons I like going to Scotland. Pubs are unique and sooooo old! I will be in Rothesay in August so may have to do some pub crawling there. Alicia is such a trooper. Hugs to you both. Cheers
My visit to Rothesay stems from one of your videos. Thank you🥰
Brilliant Steve and Alicia on completing the task.
Wish we were there with you.
Like the idea of steak & black pudding pie. Wish they would sell them in the main shops.
👍
Great video!!! Love the pub crawls. You two are the best. Thanks for sharing!
Great video Steve must say the last pubs you visited certainly looked the nicest. Cheers( no pun intended lol)
Great video guys as someone who has worked in a few of those pubs and loves them all as a customer, great job!
Up super early for taking our own trip! Bonus…watching a Steve video right after posting! Yay!
Mrs Mennie wasn't German. Her nephew Ian who was bar manager, his wife was German.
Loved the video but I can’t drink once I’ve had something to eat , just want to sleep 😂
I love your sense of humor. Dundee actually looks like a nice place. Sunny, but cold.
It's amazing how little Alicja's Polish accent is being swamped by the Scottish !!😅
Your hair looks amazing too, 'Kapusta' !! 😉😉😆😆❤️
Thank-you both, you just made my Sunday night, had a laugh and a giggle..it was only a couple of weeks ago my Sister and l went on a Pub crawl, her idea we only managed to visit 6 Hotels but we were drinking Pints at each location and usually 3 or 4 before moving onto the next..i rang in sick the next day for work...what was your stories did you rise and shine...hehe..have to admit though you were both very strong...some of those places were cosy and comfortable it would be so easy to stay and yack to the locals...thanks again regards Doc from Down Under
Great video. Dundee was my stomping ground in the late 70s/80s so it was great to see so many of my old haunts.
What a lovely video, Gives me the feels for pubs in the old country. Keep making these, great work!
I love this pair ..I'd have had enough after 3 pints! Hats off to this girl! And I'd really live to go to Dundee! Thank you!
Good to see you both spending some quality time together mate! Both deserve a wee drink and some fun together ✊🏻🏴
Can't wait for the St. John's, NL video !
Love a steady pub crawl. No mention of the Handsom Cab. Worked on the Asda carpark ( tarmac ) in the late 70's/early 80's. Travelled up from Leeds every Monday morning. Good times were had in that boozer. Fond memories of youth !
Visit frequently
Hansom Cab at the end of the Seagate is now called Tickety Boos. It's a good pub 👍
Handsome cab is now Tickity boos
Spent nearly 4yrs in Dundee leaving in 2002, still don't think I managed all the pubs, was too busy working in Flares nightclub myself..
A fantastic wee city that I still miss to this day..
Hey, loved watching the Dundee pub crawl. Has given us some inspiration about heading into Dundee (on the bus from Blairgowrie) and trying out some of these quirky pubs!
Really loved the video, we understand that it can be difficult to film but you still manage to capture the feel and atmosphere of the pubs.
Thank you for entertaining us! 🍻
PS: Alicia, don't cry over spilt beer - it was an accident 😊
You both done a grand job as you say in Scotland from Colin S. I. Cardiff South Wales
Character bars full of characters
The lemmings game was born in Dundee. 2 of my cousins were in the team who created it!
Love the old fashioned pubs thanks for your video of Dundee been all over Scotland but never been to Dundee would like to go x
You know I searched your channel for 'Falkirk', but was surprised to not find a video.
Any plans to visit Falkirk and the Kelpies?
I have it penciled in to do a walk between them both. I'm glad to still have plenty options for the channel :) I certainly walked through Falkirk on my 'attempted' walk from Edinburgh to Glasgow video
Excellent. Remember to check out Falkirks oldest pub(The WheatSheaf 1797), for a nice hand pulled pint.@@steve-marsh
This couldn't have came at a better time! Dundonian here....
Just came off the drink 4 weeks ago - this was a very safe way for me to enjoy the pub from home.
Cheers guys! 😀👌
Fun day! I don't drink alcohol, but would love to visit a few of the pubs, and honestly, a drink can be soda, right?!
Absolutely!
Thanks, Steve, for the memories. I used to live in the Ferry and work in the city. You covered many personal favourites. Historic note. The Fishermans is where I set my (then) long hair on fire. Hogmanay 1973, a date burnt into my memory.
A pie tour would be good
A bakery crawl? Oh hell yes!!
Dundee looks nice. I must visit Scotland someday. Thx for the inspiration.
The Dundee pubs seemed more like what we call "sticky floor boozers".
We loved watching Steve getting gigglier as the day progressed! Cheers! 🍻
Dundee used to be Dumpdee but in recent times its really come on. Nice place nowadays.
Looks can be deceiving trust me
Dundee is a nice place. Has its problems like anywhere but the people are down to earth and friendly with a self-effacing sense of humour.Look a bit harder and you might see it!@@embee1983
