I am a Chinese and I used to sing the Chinese version of this song when I was in my high school chorus. I remembered I almost cried out when singing this on the stage during a competition. This is the first time I listen to the original version of The Nightingale. After so many years, I still feel so touched when listening to this.

I am completely transfixed with this masterpiece. The unrelentlessness, the struggle. It breaks my heart what these young soldiers (men and women) had to endure. Thanks to composer Vasily Solovyov-Sedoy, poet Aleksey Fatyanov, the Alexandrov Ensemble and Yevgeny Belyaev for giving a voice to these people in the most beautiful way!

This is how i remember the red army choir, in black and white on a tiny 14" screen Pye television in the early to mid 1950's. I am still to this day captivated by the red army choir.
I was a 8 year old girl during the 80s listening these beautyfull songs, low volume, with my family here in Chile, during Pinochet dictadorship. Everything from Soviet Union was prohibited (books censored, musicians went to exile, etc.)during those hard days. But we listened anyway! Nobody could share that you or your family listened these! By the time Pinochet took the power, everybody went to hide their vinilos, books, photograps, and anything that was based or showed a little glimpse on social rights, liberty, comunism, socialism, etc. IT was so sad, a time of deep sorrow and fear for your life, that was aligerated by art like this!
