I saw him in a small theatre over 40 years ago now, walking up and down the aisles signing autographs and records that people held up for him ( I regretted not bringing mine). In that show he described how lowly paid men with a rope over their shoulders would haul a barge along the canal, through the mists in the very early morning. He began softly with the high notes gradually becoming robust and louder (as the boatmen drew closer) and then reversing the voice, becoming softer as the boatmen receded away.
same here, except it was my Gran.... I still have her LP though it is warped it still sort of plays.... but I love to sing along what I can manage.... I do sound healing now with toning - and just realised what an influence he was for me
Saw him perform twice in Hamilton Ontario Canada. My wife chatted with him (in German) She has since passed away. Thank you for the Wonderfull memory. He was a great Singer will be Missed.
Had a program on Sunday mornings on (Canadian) CBC radio when I was a kid late 50's early 60's with his own choir. Very enjoyable even if you weren't from that culture. The more you listen, the more you learn about all music.
I do love this song very much. He got a very lovely voice with his music. I would love pay big money to see his concerts so many years ago. This is a very old song.
Freddie Mercury had an amazing natural talent, but most people don't stand a chance of hitting the lowest notes that Mr. Rebroff managed to belt out. Both were excellent, yet completely different singers.
I agree with you 100% too. He makes all the other look pea soup. SImply no comparrison is there! Fabulous voice, ranging over 41/2 octaves from absolute base to sapraho.... Very Rare Indeed! He was also a lively charismatic personality with a height of over 6'.5" placing him the G.Book of Records as one of the tallest perfoming artist. :-)
I search the lyrics in English of this version of "Song Of The Volga Boatman" performed by Ivan Rebroff as well as for the lyrics in English of the other Russian songs included in the same album "Ivan Rebroff sings in English - Somewhere, My Love". I sincerely hope that someone will could help me. All my thanks in advance for your great kindness as well as for your precious help. All te best to you!
Hearing this, my mind can't help but imagine the crossing of the Volga and the fighting to retake Stalingrad. The fear, the pride, the hardships that they faced. From an American, I'd like to thank the Russian men and women who fought, especially the ones who gave their lives fighting the Germans. Much respect.
I saw him live in a church and when he hit the low notes the floor vibrated.
That explain what happened at Notre-Dame of Paris.
I saw him in a small theatre over 40 years ago now, walking up and down the aisles signing autographs and records that people held up for him ( I regretted not bringing mine).

My god I’d give ten years off of my own life to have seen that

Ivan Rebroff is one of the most iconic voices of all-time. My mom introduced me to him when I was a kid and I still get goosebumps hearing him sing.
same here, except it was my Gran.... I still have her LP though it is warped it still sort of plays.... but I love to sing along what I can manage.... I do sound healing now with toning - and just realised what an influence he was for me
Mr. Rebroff doesn't just feel the music, he lives it. I've never heard anything like it.
I listened to this with my parents as a kid 30 yrs ago. Tonight I'm listening to it with my 6 yr old son....
Very happy for you
Well done, teach him some good music
It's a great song.
''Daddy, what is this cräp going into my ears?''
2020 and his voice is iconic
It always will
12 th October 2023 👌
was für eine Stimmkraft , was für eine Wehmut , einzigartig ............

ADORE YOUR FEELING, YOUR PERSONALITY, YOUR VOICE, THE EXTENSE OF YOURFEELINGS, YOUR PERFOMARNCE, YOUR PERSONALITY, YOUR RUSSIAN EXTENSION

WAIT A MINUTE- I thought that voice at the beginning was a woman until he did it again towards the end. Holy crap this guy's got range.
Daniel Lancelin F1-A5
He had the highest range of octaves of them all. He was phenomenal. People have to go and die and it's such a shame.
He had a range of four and a half octaves - Bass to Soprano! Freddie Mercury had four octaves but clearly, both singers are worlds apart
Fantastic Musical performance !
Extraordinario cantante Ruso.
I was listening to his voice and this song with my step father 55 years ago. Still wonderful

A GREAT VOICE
His voice has Paul Robeson quality, beautiful!
Ivan Rebroff - RASPUTIN. ...His voice covers a range of 4 1/2 octaves.
Does that excel Freddie Mercury's?
Freddie Mercury had an amazing natural talent, but most people don't stand a chance of hitting the lowest notes that Mr. Rebroff managed to belt out. Both were excellent, yet completely different singers.
@Steven Criscione

I wish Ivan Rebroff was still alive.
Love to Russia on today 11 march 2022 💜💛💜💛
the Heavy from TF2 sings this in his taunts
Hisao Nakai cool
yea, but i dont really like when they mix up the russian songs in a "cartoon game"
the tune is also used fairly regularly in Wargaming's game, World of Tanks - both in the older soundtrack and the new upcoming one

Another American big mouth. They never ever won a war. Never on there own. Cowards, the lot of them.
Holger H A lot of people would be speaking different languages today if it weren't for the Americans, the greatest melting pot in History.
Sure, look at all the trouble now. Europe becomes a " melting pot " now.
Holger H Shut the fuck up and just accept his thanks you piece of shit.
Holger H
Looks like money has spoiled you little brat. Learn some manners!
