Finally, I've watched so many of these videos and this is the only one that tells you what to do with the bare copper wire that's hanging from the light fixtures!! Thank you soooo much!!!!
That's because it takes a woman to be just that thorough! I came to these comments to say this as well! Also being a newbie, I needed to understand the wires and you provided steps and labeled them in order so Thank you!
best job of ANY video out there explaining how to connect the grounding wires!!!! Thank you so much for great visual AND audio explanation! Greatly appreciated!!
Great vid. Easy to follow. I'm the "fixit" person in our home (hubby is genius level IT guy but not repairs/renos etc). We are nervous about electrical wire work so will attempt this ourselves. Thanks for posting! :)
This is the 3rd video I've watched and the only one with enough information on reconnecting the wiring so I can finally put up my new vanity light. Thank you!
You have helped me so much!!! Explaining how the ground wire wire from wall connects to the screw and then the ground wire on the fixture was so helpful!
This was very helpful! I have done this before but it's been a few years and the instructions that came with the light fixture are kind of small print and vague so this video really helped clarify - and I learned the correct order to handle the wires.
Awesome tutorial! I am doing a bathroom reno and this will be the first time doing this on my own. After watching the tutorial I am very comfortable to take the task on. Thank you.
So helpful! Really appreciate the step by step instructions on connecting the wires, especially the ground. I was doing it right, but needed reassurance!
Can I wrap the grounding wire from the fixture around the grounding nut as that is long. Then I can attach that to the grounding wire from the outlet, that's shorter in my case?????
I prefer the previous light fixture in this application. I don’t care for the filaments shining in my eyes. Other locations it would be cool but not when I’m staring into them. Good video for DIYers. Putting a bend in the solid copper wire with a pair of needle nosed pliers would help with getting the wire looped around the persnickety small ground screws.
Grab a voltage detector to find out which one is hot. Then the other will be neutral. Most of our house doesn't have a ground. Code didn't require it in the past. Both Ground and Neutral run to your electrical panel though so they get to the same place. Newer houses have separate buses for them now but its fine if you don't have a ground in your wire. Just wire the ground wire from your fixture to the green screw in the box
I don't want my husband to install a new vanity fixture, the old one ruined by my builder, as my husband and I are separated. This video makes me more confident that I won't electrocute myself and/or set the house on fire. I'll have my privacy, and I think I'll have more confidence facing other things my shoddy builder screwed up. Thank you!
I have the same issue with a ghetto builder. There's no box in the wall that I can see. Just a white wire that runs along the stud - and part of the stud appears to be cut out so they could put the wire where they wanted. (also a woman trying to figure this out on my own)
You're not supposed to wire the ground and neutral wires together. As for the copper ground wire, why "wrap" the wire around, bending a simple hook and screwing it down is fine.
The ground wire (bare) and the neutral (white) are not connected. The ground wire from the house and from the light are connected and the neutral wire (white) from the house and the from the light are connected separately. As for the copper ground, we opted to wrap around to screw so we could get the other end of it out of the way, but yes hooking it around the screw is fine too.
For safety, you definitely want to cap off both hot black or other colors and neutral, white) so you can move around it w/o getting possibly zapped. Neutral can possibly be wired into hot and you may not even know it, I've seen it too many times. Good video overall
@@James-jx3ro I asked for elaboration because I thought you were saying she didn't cap the wires(which I thought she did- only thing possibly missing was electrical tape around the caps?). I wanted clarification. Thank you.
Love how the video was very visible and you did an amazing job with your step by step instructions. Especially explaining the ground wire. Awesome

Official Home Depot video totally skipped over that part.
I came to the comments to say this very thing!! This is like my 4th video and it’s finally the one that shows what to do! 😭
That's because it takes a woman to be just that thorough! I came to these comments to say this as well! Also being a newbie, I needed to understand the wires and you provided steps and labeled them in order so Thank you!
I came here to say this !
Been through dozens of videos before finding one that actually shows what to do with the ground wire! Thank you!!!
awesome, glad the video was helpful.
Thank you for showing the wire connections up close and explaining in detail what each wire is for. I feel very confident to do this now.
Glad it was helpful!
I DID IT!!! Thank you soooo much; you saved me a lot money 😁

Thanks for this! Watched a few other videos before this one and this was definitely the most informative and helpful.

Thank you! This video was so helpful! I was able to replace my light fixture with a new one in my bathroom. It was my first time too!
Glad it helped!
They wanted $50 to install my light
Thank you so much for saving me $50!!! I'm 66 but I can still follow directions. You're awesome!!!

Thanks so much for this video. I’ll get my [adult] son to watch it too, so we can hook up our light fixture in the bathroom. 😊

This was the best tutorial for this. Thank you so much! 😊

Great tutorial, especially about connecting the different wires. I didn't think your original fixture was dated though. Both are nice.
Glad it was helpful!
This video is so simple and helpful

My light has an extra set of black and white wires...what do I do with those? Looks like you had those to?
All the black wires get connected and all the white wires get connected.
Can I wrap the grounding wire from the fixture around the grounding nut as that is long. Then I can attach that to the grounding wire from the outlet, that's shorter in my case?????
Yes, as long as it is all touching you're good.
Thank you someone quoted me this and that pricing but I’ma do it myself 😁 not because I’m cheap.. because I can now thanks to your video.
Glad you found it helpful! good luck!
I Always use electric tape to prevent the hot and neutral wires from coming loose. I tape from the plastic Cap to the wires. Only a Pointer.
Great tip, thanks for sharing!
I am adding exactly the light you just removed. I think it is better than the one your replaced it with but your video helped nevertheless.
Hehe I liked both lights! I was just ready for something new.
Excellent video, informative and helpful.

wow this is so helpful!!
I'm so glad!
You're missing a very important step, you should use a voltage meter to check the wires after you've turned off the power
Great tutorial, I think I can tackle this now!
Go for it!
Thanks 😊
No problem 😊
nice vid
thanks!
My electrical box in the bathroom doesn’t have a ground wire and both wires in it seem to be of the same color or just dirty from paint debris.

😂 dude held the screws in his mouth. Us men, do what we gotta do at the time. 👍
Also, don't throw away those "outdated" lights. I just saw those at Lowes😊
Maybe I should have called them "builder grade" instead ! 🤔😂
I literally just bought this one and that’s why I googled how to install it! 🤦🏼♀️
That’s the light I just installed. Outdated? Lol.
Maybe just "outdated" for my space because I had switched everything else to black finishes :)

@@cantrememberchit9736 no box for a light fixture is an issue. If I were you I'd call an electrician for that.
Agreed. I swear its not worth upgrading anything in this house - it just exposes additional problems. Thanks for a simple to understand video.

Your new fixture had a group of wires capped with whites that you didn’t mention.
Those were the wires that were connecting each individual light on the fixture. The factory wires those up and you don't need to touch them.
Thank Goodness, a woman.
:)
Outdated lights?????? THese are super modern.
Maybe I should have said "not my style" instead of outdated :)
Lol
pretty sure he ate the bolt caps😂😂

Tried this and my apartment almost blew up
Not sure how that would happen because the power should be completely off while you're working on this.
Hello, did something go wrong with installation? What caused the apartment to almost blow up?
