i think with new leaf, even though we all complain about how time consuming new horizons can be, new leaf’s time constraints are very fair. you were expecting each and every upgrade and were acutely aware of the timeline of events in which you achieve them. the average player who is just playing to play wouldn’t know those things and therefore each upgrade would be a surprise. the point is to play casually, be chill, play normally and spend bells at the nook store so that eventually it’ll keep expanding the more you play. the more days you play (irl, not just in-game), the more your town tree will expand. once it’s at level 3 or 4 (i don’t remember), you’ll be able to see your achievements, such as the shops that have upgraded so far, the villagers who have moved in since the beginning of your game, the dates of each shop opening and upgrading, etc. new leaf rewards you for waiting and playing the game day by day, while new horizons gives you absolutely nothing for it. you wait irl days to do things that could’ve easily be given to you in the same day, and you’re given things at the wiggle of your joystick and the tap of a button that could’ve been drawn out and worked towards for that sweet feeling of working hard and achieving your goals. plus, the waiting for each upgrade and each shop to open after meeting prerequisites always leaves you something to look forward to, leaves you feeling anticipation, and adds to the longevity of the game, whereas with new horizons there’s nothing to work towards besides the eventual completion of your island layout and aesthetic.
Nostalgia trip, wow. Awesome vid. Moe is my favorite villager because of my childhood with New Leaf. Was extremely happy when I saw you had him in your town. Moe gang!
13:00 A little tip: Whenever Redd shows up, you can use the d pad to change the angle so you can see the statues/paintings better (you can do the same thing for your house as well)
Personally I really like that NL has so many long-term goals. I still have things to do after playing for over a year. I think the villagers are better in older games, but NL is definitively the best AC game when it comes to content.
hiiii ur wrong about the dream suite being forever locked post-shutdown, you have to ATTEMPT to travel to a faraway town and then be faced with the internet error. i started a town on 4/20/24 and was able to unlock the (albeit unusable) dream suite
Well gonna add a bit too: Not only you have to attempt to go to a faraway town you have to be mayor for about a week and once those have been achieved, you will see Isabelle in Town Hall snoozing saying a villager (Luna) wanted to build the dream suite :)
New leaf with new horizons graphics and wild world villagers would be the best animal crossing game ever (but keep the fun ui not the shitty modernized new horizons ui)
Animal Crossing on the n64 will be in the works over the next few weeks! I plan on streaming my gameplay of it on both TH-cam and Twitch before the video gets released so keep an eye out!

20:11 Are we just not gonna talk about how he got one of the rarest things to occur in New Leaf? He got a double rainbow!!!
