- The Polonaise in A-flat major Op 53 (French: Polonaise héroique,English: Heroic Polonaise) for solo piano, was written by Frédéric Chopin in 1842. The heroic Polonaise in A-flat major Op. 53 by Chopin is one of Chopin's most admired compositions and has long been a favorite of the classical piano repertoire. The Heroic Polonaise in A-flat major Op 53, which is very difficult, requires exceptional piano skills and great virtuosity to be interpreted at a high degree of proficiency. The Heroic Polonaise was dedicated to Auguste Léo.

My Grandmother came from Poland in the 1800s when she was 15 years old and was wed in an arranged marriage to a Montana lumberjack. Eventually, she ended up in Detroit. When I was 12 years old, in 1952, I discovered that she had a 78 rpm record of this piece played by Paderewski. It was my introduction to classical music. I pretty much wore out that record and it is my favorite piece followed by the scherzo in C Sharp minor. There is a you tube video of Paderewski playing this Polonaise in an art-deco concert hall about 1937 or so. I don't have have the ear or knowledge to compare the two performances but I do love them both. By the way, I was born with the last name of Czajkowski. My father changed our family name to Adams when I was four years old. He wanted us to be Americans.
This performance takes me back to 1955 when I played the Heroic Polonaise in a piano contest which I managed to win. Instead of pursuing a career in music, however, I became a trial lawyer. Today, at age 82, I continue to practice law. But now I want to retire and travel, especially to Russia from which I just returned a week ago after visiting friends in Kostroma.
Amazing! I have never before heard a pianist who is so technically precise and yet still gives the most emotionally charged performances ever! I love watching your hands move across the keys in a mathematically precise way. I'm completely stunned at several points in your performances as I watch your fingers make the music come to life! Another favourite of mine.

Anastasia, you have a wonderful feel for the music of Chopin - your tasteful use of rubato is exactly what the music needs to "breath" - without feeling overly constrained or too metronomic. It´s hard to explain what music does in one´s heart! But I can say that when I listen to Anastasia Huppmann playing so beautifully... I am moved towards another dimension of time. I feel peace of mind and become extremely happy.

Not bad for a rehearsal Anastasia. The "change of direction" at 6.48 is magnificent Chopin genius. I often wonder as to my favorite bits amongst his jewels of sound but it's usually the one I'm listening to at the time.
I truly hope you see in Chopin all that I do. I don't believe you could play his music so well without doing so.

This is my favorite version of this piece, because she didn’t rush through it like many pianists do.
Oh, I dont like rushing too, but must addmit that Argerich's record of this piece is one of my favs. Actually, I do like pretty much everyrthing she plays, its always a little rushed but she has such a technique, impeccable phrasing and discinct playing in every way... and I like this piece a little more forte at the begining.
I was very young, when for the first time, I heard this piece of music... and I always had it in mind. Thank you Anastasia, for this delicious moment! 😊

You are the greatest! I first heard this piece on a Philco in 1953, 78 rpm played by Jose Eiterbi Iguana
I think I first heard it on radio (WGMS, classical station in DC), from a recording by Arthur Rubinstein.
Might've been the (Chopin) sesquicentennial in 1960, not sure; anyway, it was around then.
It was a little rushed, maybe is the spooks in the empty concert hall. or maybe I just like the LeGrande style, as in Michelle
