I grew up in Santa Monica during the 1970s surf culture and saw immediately the surfboard vibe when you got over the " Stick" 😉 With the blob of paint accident, this fable became a suspense thriller! 😳 Thankfully the fable's heroine came to the rescue to give this creative tale a happy ending 😀
Lol, thanks so much! For sure having the space and energy to spare is key with this work - I can usually find a place to work, but lots of times have to dig deep for that energy. 😂👍
You really did nail it. When I’m comfortable this is the perfect start. I was very happy you left the spill in, now I know what to do. That wall piece is stunning. Great job. Thanks for sharing 💕
I purchased a kitchen table from marketplace. The owner had started to paint it. When I remove the paint from the top, I saw that she had blown through the veneer that I hadn't known was there. 🙄 my daughter wants the top to be kept natural but with this problem, I knew that I would have to cover the problem in some way. I have been considering painting parts of the top with a stencil but I've been feeling hesitant. You've now given me the courage to use paint & stain together to create a unique design. I'm grateful & I believe my daughter will be too!! Continue your day knowing that your video share definitely made a difference❤ thank you so much ❤
Just match the veneer and cut out the bit where it was sanded through or just redo the entire top in a similar veneer…. They sell rolls at Home Depot or Lowe’s…
Thank you so much for showing that sometimes the first try doesn’t work and mistakes will happen. I tend to get down on myself when a piece goes south. But I don’t give up. It’s nice to know I am not the only one!
Absoultey! The struggle is real, and experienced by everyone! Humor, patience, walking away for a break,...cursing...these are some of my coping strategies for the stress and frustrations. 😂
Wow, well thank you very much!! I will be sure to share that incredibly lovely sentiment with my three children...😂 But sincerely, many many thanks! ❤️
That table is a masterpiece! A true work of art! I see where your inspiration came from, but your own inventiveness made it work. I know you know that the price you got in no way reflects its value.
I couldn't watch with the 'boo boo". I'm glad you kept it in and while not glad this happened to you, reassured that it just doesn't happen to me. I am famous for having my paintbrush in my mouth and then either painting myself, or dropping it on my chest- this results in a lot of "painting clothes!" This piece turned out amazing!
I am very happy that you spoke about getting out of ones comfort zone to shake the cobwebs and more importantly reinvigorate the creative mind. Also, if that was me who spilled that paint, it probably would have been a solid three minutes of . This hobby is making me a lot more patient than I used to be.
Thanks so much, Bob! Yes, truth be told and if memory serves, there was a fairly lengthy stream of curse words...😂...for sure, this is a craft that teaches one the art of patience. 😊👍
Wonderful video, as per usual! I'm not a mid-century girl but what you ended up doing with this table blew me away. So artistic and a treat for the new owner. Thanks for sharing with us!!
Ohh I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through this video .. wonder, awe, drama, humour, a little sport and even thrills with “spills” 😉 Thank you for creating such a fantastic channel 😊👍🏽💕
I cannot imagine painting on top of that rug and not dropping any paint on it! You are amazing. And I love everything you do. But thanks for showing that sometimes we end up with a football and we have to start over. That's real life. LOL
My daughters would love this table as would I if I had the furniture to match. Your china plate replica pattern came to mind And I thought a beautiful Ukrainian Easter egg would be nice. It must be so satisfying to be able to use your artistic talent in furniture do overs. You are able to create such unique and original and delightful designs.
Thank you so much, Kristen!! I will definitely plan on working that in during next "season"...hopefully you saw my last fable, the "Anthropologie dupe", where I use a transfer on the glass. :)
The wall hanging is just stunning. How wonderful that you were able to use it as inspiration and create such a fabulous table. For me the selling cost isn't the number one thing but the joy you found and created and made available to someone else is what it's all about!
Congratulations on several levels: overcoming your "flipper stick," admitting a design snafu when you see one, coming up with a winning alternative, and selling a vexing piece at a profit. Frankly, while I neither liked the original table nor its well done transformation (as you said, it was always an acquired taste), I am impressed by your positive attitude, your professionalism, and your impressive eye for good design. Thank you for sharing your work.
Hi, very clever presentation. The piece was interesting, I liked the idea of applying stripes. I wish I could be more creative when I paint my own pieces and watching these videos is great inspiration.
Since I always use same, very distinctive, style in my work and same colors of white, gold, and mint green, I am very rarely stuck. If I am stuck, I spend some time looking at ancient and antique classic designs, which correlate most to my style. French and English furniture and architecture usually are the most helpful ones :) You have won and sold your work, that is what matters, congratulations to you and respect for not giving up! ♥
Wow, thank you so much!! Yes, I recognize your profile pic and handle! 😊 I've been blown away by the response. I'm having a blast learning the ropes, and keeping that content coming! Truly appreciate the support. 👍
Thank you so much, Alecia! Yes, that was a "lump in the throat" moment. (and there was probably some cursing as well...😅) But yes - those things happen, and thankfully just about anything can be fixed or remedied! 😊
Bleeding tape lines can be eliminated... Paint over your tape edges with the background colour and let it dry enough to paint over. It will fill the spaces with that colour and make the edges very sharp. 😉 But you are using good quality tape though and it looks perfect! So lovely.
I love your overall channel concept, and your humor! I’ve flipped a couple of furniture pieces, and want to do more. I appreciate the sharing of your process!
Thank you, so neat to hear! Yes, I was surprised how much it grew on me before it sold. BTW - there's a link to the Instagram and Etsy shop for the artist who made the wallhanging if you're interested in checking it out. 😊
You really are an artist, and although that piece wouldn’t work in my home, it is an amazing, unique piece that will really make a one of a kind statement. Love it.
Thank you Kay, that is such a nice thing to say!! I'm kind of in the same camp...I was really happy with what I had created, even though it wasn't really my style and would've looked pretty out of place in my home. 😊👍
My inspiration has always to just let a time go by and something comes past my edge of eye and I am on it. This applies to whole houses and to necklaces. I figure if my preschoolers and primary grade kids could design noodle necklaces or food coloring wooden beads for Mom ,then Miss Nancy could do her own necklaces . The houses always just took time before that teaching life and it was often lack of money that made me creative to pull up some way to create a treasure. Thank you for letting us in on your treasure making time.
Love your style of explaining. Thank you for showing me how to fix a big mess. I think I would have just painted it white and put a team logo on it. Lol. You are so amazing on your patience and creative thought process. 🌼
I bet you could have found some football fanatic bachelor to pay your asking price for a one of-a-kind coffee table had you punted and run with the football theme! Hehehe. But love the finished project, you still scored!
I am so happy I subscribed to your "Book of the Week" videos. The moment I saw the table I could hear The Beach Boys singing "Catch A Wave". Your end creation is beautiful. Looking forward to next time.
That s my problem the past month.lack of inspiration...want to paint a metal locker in a boho style or even rustic look but...i am stuck.thank you for this video.
This piece of furniture probably actually cost you money since you ended up buying the art from the person whose work inspired you, but hopefully you recoup any loss in youtube views! lol. Definitely see the challenge of the oval table now! From your description of her work I was expecting you to blend varying shades of the original green so the table went from deepest green to pale green seamlessly (I know there is a name for that), but love the pinks added to it. Thanks for sharing how to handle spilled paint! Very helpful. Love the sheen the protective coat gives even though it is "flat". Kudos to your willing helper!
I recently found your channel and have been binge watching today. When you unveiled the football table, I thought about how many members of my family would have paid good money to have that in their houses, lol.
Hi Andy WOW my goodness that's quite amazing, fantastic idea you did a magnificent job on this even with flippers stick!!!! You as usual made what was just an ordinary oval coffee table into a work of art , Amazing, take care all the best Mary in Australia ⚘😊
You completely crack me up! My BFF of 40 years shines through you 🥰 Now for brush CPR..set a jar of warm soapy water with your paints. The brush will magically fall into it. Shazam, the brush is saved. Okay, so I tried. Lol 😆
Wow. These colours work so well together. The finished piece is amazing. I've got to ask. What is your background? You're such a natural at these videos. 😊
Thank you so much! I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed that color palette! As for my background...my "real" job is as a professional musician. I'm a classically trained singer and conductor, and I often work as a vocal director for community theater. (and occasionally get a chance to perform on stage as well!) Lots of performance experience. 😊
The table you created far exceeds the original table. This table was not like some of your past projects that started with a fairly good quality item (even though ugly and damaged). However, the proportions and curves of this table were really nice (the designer was better than the manufacturer). Love the design and colors, and as a weaver, I really appreciate a good gradient. Leaving the base as is made sense since it’s pretty and seems higher quality than the top. Can’t weave right now as we’re moving within a few months so I enjoy watching your creativity! If we lived near each other, I’d commission you to create an interesting and mid-century-adjacent coffee table for our new home. But alas (I’m picking up your narration style), we’re on opposite coasts.
Wow - a weaver? I would love to learn about that craft, it's always amazed me. Ah yes, west coast gal here...but thank you so much, I'm flattered you would consider commissioning a work! Thank you again for such a lovely comment and for sharing!
Wow, nice job!! I'm really appreciative that you allowed us to see your mistakes. It gives hope to those of us interested in trying this. I would have been devastated by the blob of paint but now I know what to do!! Thanks so much!!!
It is so nice to know I am not alone. I worked like crazy before vacation and now I am so stuck. My pieces have stopped talking to me. I have redone everything I have started. Waiting for my mojo to return
You were hilarious, I created a Football! You could of continued with that theme put some stitching in the middle and sold to someone for their man cave! I have painted buffalo check projects, I definitely appreciated all your taping. Great job with your flippers stick.🙂
Looks so beautiful, I'm working on a hand made side board that I got for free. Not sure what I want to do with it but I cleaned all the handles so they shine again
You made me laugh out loud when you said “a tiny mouse drove a motorcycle over” 🤣🤣 I think that pattern would’ve looked good if it had been more substantial. I didn’t notice the football until you said it! I’m still watching but I know the finished piece is going to look great!
I don't know if you will see this comment as it is from an old vlog, but I was wondering if the tape you used was the Frog brand tape? If so, did it work as well as the commercials say it does? The table came out great and I loved the colors you chose. The wall hanging is stunning! You are lucky to have it. Thanks so much.
The table turned out lovely BUT I thought you were going to follow the lines of the macrame hanging and spin a dripping can over the table to make an elongated spiral in toning shades. Think spirograph design.
So Andy. Your glasses. I distinctly remember a pair with mauve and sea green top and bottom. What gives? Not that I don't like the whimsical specs. Actually, I love them. Just curious about them.
Oh my goodness - I have SO MANY GLASSES. 😂 They are readers - (I desperately need to have my eyes examined) but I need to wear them when I work or film because I can't see the camera or the paint/furniture if I'm not wearing them! But they are all relatively cheap, and I have a lot because I lose and break them all the time. 🤓
I grew up in Santa Monica during the 1970s surf culture and saw immediately the surfboard vibe when you got over the " Stick" 😉
With the blob of paint accident, this fable became a suspense thriller! 😳 Thankfully the fable's heroine came to the rescue to give this creative tale a happy ending 😀
Oh wow - LOVE this Bettina!! Thanks so much, and so happy you enjoyed this suspense-fable! (New genre?? 😊)
I was thinking during the stick that it looked like a surfboard and needed stripes (I was thinking da few down the middle) but worked out great!
One can tell that you are enjoying doing these videos for us. Keep them coming. Thank you.
Absolutely! ❤️😊
You are so much fun and your refinish work is amazing.
Thank you so much, that's so neat to hear!!
I love your alter egos - and your sense of humor. Wish I had your energy and an outside area to work.!
Lol, thanks so much! For sure having the space and energy to spare is key with this work - I can usually find a place to work, but lots of times have to dig deep for that energy. 😂👍

Beautiful outcome! When you started I thought oh no, Easter egg! But I enjoyed watching your vision and inspiration become a reality.
Lol, I'm so glad! Yes, this was a fun challenge.
The subplots of the football and paint drop added to the depth of your tale. Nicely done.
Thank you!! 😂👍🏈
I just have to say I love how open you are about your work- you share yourself so trustingly. Thank you. I am enjoying your videos so much.

That is what I thought of too is a surf board… great job Andy
Lol, thanks so much, Pam!
Two things the other flippers have mentioned...coffee tables are the hardest to sell even at a low bottom dollar and 2nd getting "writer's block'.
Yep!
Looks so beautiful, I'm working on a hand made side board that I got for free. Not sure what I want to do with it but I cleaned all the handles so they shine again
Thanks! Wow - sounds like a cool project. 👍
Stunning outcome.
Thank you so much!
Good afternoon from Ontario, Canada!
Greetings, and good morning from California! 😊
_Well, that's just some quantum mechanics, with a little string theory doodling around the edges_ 😉😍🤗
Pretty much! 😂❤️🤓
Incredibly stilish!! 👏👏
Many thanks! 😊🙏
Love it
Hooray! Thanks so much. 😊
I’m blown away!
Hooray, thanks so much!!
You made me laugh out loud when you said “a tiny mouse drove a motorcycle over” 🤣🤣 I think that pattern would’ve looked good if it had been more substantial. I didn’t notice the football until you said it! I’m still watching but I know the finished piece is going to look great!
Lol, thanks Sharon!! 🐭🏍
Excellent solution for this piece even if it reminds me of a surf board
Lol thanks, it's "vintage-surfer-cool"! 😎
That turned out very nice.
Thank you!
Congratulations on flipping off your “flipper stick” and creating a unique piece 😊
Thank you!
The "football" look reminded me of a surfboard! 😅 Your final result was so much better. Unimaginative me wouldve just painted the top solid black. 😆
Yes, it totally had that surf vibe!! Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed! (and I was THIS close to painting it black 😂)
Yes it was! It worked GREAT. Thanks Peggy!
The table turned out lovely BUT I thought you were going to follow the lines of the macrame hanging and spin a dripping can over the table to make an elongated spiral in toning shades. Think spirograph design.
WOW! That would be amazing...I'll have to think about that idea...😊👍
