I remember thinking, " Gosh those Pharisees look familiar," Then The Promiseland came to mind, but I thought I was simply over-thinking my obsession with the Pharisees at that moment. Well, I wasn't! Why couldn't such good actors be on both shows! So glad the two shows can help each other out! So excited for more Promiseland ! Did somebody tell you “hey tone it down… this “mockumentary” thing - people might catch on that you are mocking God’s word and blaspheming His Holy name!” Nice, slick bait and switch, from “we are a comedy mockumentary” ,… to your new, serious tone, begging for money and getting all sentimental- you guys are mocking the Holy Word of God and adding all YOUR made up stories to the Bible.
Do believers “mock God’s word” whenever they make jokes about the disciples’ mistakes and personalities we read about in the Gospels? A common way for pastors to build sermons is to look at the choices made by people in Scripture and learn about God by studying the scenarios. There is humor throughout the Bible. It is not mocking the Lord to analyze and find humor in the stories about the people who followed Him. Nothing in the pilot episode went against the testimonies of the Israelites from those 40 years. When writing like that is done well, it can lead people to connect more with God because they don’t feel so distant from the people we see God interact with in Scripture. Connecting with other believers (past and present) can grow faith.
