Thank you for your video. I agree that today the trend is toward literal scents - vanilla cake etc. - but also to identifiable ingredients, like "oh, I can smell rose, jasmine, and sandalwood in this." But the whole idea of grand perfumerie was to create a scent that smelled like itself and nothing else from a number of ingredients (often all but the kitchen sink and then some) that would meld into this unique scent without standing out, or to evoke an emotion, or to evoke a scent. That's what I love about vintage perfumes. That said, I love the modern ones as well and have a few too many in my collection.
I love Rumba. If they rebottled it in a niche bottle and slapped a $300 price tag on it, it would be a lot more popular LOL! I'm also a big fan of Cabochard. And have gotten compliments on it.
Your descriptions are awesome! 'Smells like gum left inside a purse, smells like a baseball game.." So specific. Yes Passion was first, I launched it behind the counter in the late 80's at a dept store in SoCal. I love your cute ceramics and am jealous that you make your own clothes! I also sold Bal a Versaille which was Michael Jackson's fave! Love your vids! Cheers!
This was very interesting because no one really reviews these perfumes. I might need to smell the Amazing because one of.my favorite scents is freshly printed papers. I used to work on a printing shop and it's so nostalgic to me.
Hi Carina! This is a really cool video idea. People just don’t talk about fragrances like this anymore. I’m very intrigued by them, great selection. Also, I think it’s really cool that you make your own clothes. I’m currently learning to sew in hopes of making my own too! I’ve graduated from making pillow cases and bags to a pajama set! Ps. I prefer the bottles outside the boxes too. Thank you ❤😊
I just discovered your content and really appreciate that you are talking about older fragrances. I like it because I am old, lol! But also because I've been wanting to hear and talk more about these gems from the past. All we ever hear about are the new things and I'm kind of burnt out and overwhelmed about all that, and the consumerism annoys me. A lot of us have collections that include these older fragrances and instead of chasing after the new stuff it's refreshing to go back and revisit some of these beauties. And while I do love smelling "like a snack", I adore gourmands, vanilla is my top favorite perfume note, so I do love the new things, but there is a lot of value in our fragrances from the past. Speaking of vanilla, I love vanillic ambers and so delighted that you mentioned Bal a Versailles as it's one of my favorite vintage fragrances - so warm and complex. I had read that all of the BaV concentrations were meant to be worn together because they all bring something different to the party, so to speak. I have done that and it's truly beautiful. You also mentioned Poison - that was my "signature" scent back in the day. I still love it. Unfortunately I can't wear Bill Blass Nude. I used to love wearing chypre's but have developed an allergy to oakmoss. I gave it to my sister and it smells lovely on her.
I love vintage! I was smitten by fragrance early but took FOREVER to find nice ones for me. Until vintage, that is. Turns out that the modern aroma chemical 'calone' was responsible for most of this, along with my natural preference for 'old fashioned' florals. Thus, a vintage lover was born! It took me longer to warm up to dark woody scents with aldehydes than almost anything else, but after a few years of sniffing and testing, I became a firm fan of Cinnabar, Youth Dew, etc. The dry down is where it's at! They actually make THE perfect hair perfume, lingering after other fragrances have faded beyond recall. :) For longevity, generally the 'challenging' fragrances are the best! BTW, if you love Bill Blass Nude but think it could use some more 'oomph', Paris Charming is an excellent dupe with More Aldehydes and longevity and sillage to boot. In fact, it's like Nude on steroids. Cheaper too. You're welcome!
Excellent perfume review! My grandma wore Youth Dew. I bought a bottle just to bring back memories. When I was a teenager I loved Bill Blass Nude. I wear it now and think it’s genius perfumery. Kind of crazy it’s $15. Another vintage perfume my great grandmother and grandmother wore was Coty L’Origan. If you can find it, I think you will like it!💞
I just recently discovered and subscribed to your channel. Your content is so very interesting to me. I personally am fascinated by older more vintage perfumes and I love the fact I that you wear them and describe them so well.
Love your take on Passion, I too find it's an amazing soapy fragrance! I feel fresh and clean when wearing it. I loved white linen too back in the 90's, and now am curious about Bill Blass Amazing.
Youth Dew is to me a very potent, strong ,vintage, very heavy fragrance. I bought a 30ml bottle 2 years ago. I only sprayed once and it was headache inducing. I can't wear it but I think it's one of the best vintage fragrances.
Thanks so much for your videos. What you share is so refreshing, unique, interesting, I freaking LOVE Bernard Chant-every single one (including my late mother’s signature, Halston). I really think those scents, like Cabochard, are much gutsier than most popular perfumes being made today. It’s so wonderful to hear from someone who actually sticks to a budget, and honors the old stuff. Plus, Solstice Scents is my favorite contemporary house/Angela is incredible! I can’t wait to try Choc de Cardin, Rumba + the Bill Blass based on your recs. I have to admit, though, as much as I adore some of the 60s-80s amber bombs like Opium, Cinnabar, etc… I think some of them were stronger (or maybe just my nose less ready) back then. I remember sitting in a band concert in the early 80s, during the summer, at an indoor gymnasium, and literally circling in and out of consciousness, stuck in the heavy cloud of the woman in front of me, drenched in Youth Dew, and I thought I’d pass out or vomit. Love it now, ha! I tend to love the most animalic scents-musks, civit, etc., however, tried Bal de Versailles recently and it was the most post-coitus smell I’ve ever experienced. This might sound like a diss but it’s the opposite! Fascinated. Thanks again for sharing your gems.
Thank you so much. I love your videos and I know it’s greedy but I wish you made more more more! I have drooled over your Solstice Scents collection and I have enjoyed seeing your adorable home that you renovated.
Love seeing the bottles displayed I find it very pleasing, listening to your passion for these fragrances and seeing the bottles is very satisfying….the boxes not so much. I am loving your content you have a new sub love from Marham Norfolk UK Paula x
love this video! i absolutely love passion and cabochard (and like most of the others mentioned.) i had never heard of choc, but it sounds interesting. rumba has been on my to try list too, so i am glad you covered it-thank you.
thank you so much for this video! I'm a gourmand ride or die, but lately I've been dying to add more variety into my perfume collection & got Elizabeth Taylor's Passion to start things off. boy, did you described it well! to me, the soapy quality, along with the leathery incense powdery nature of it are stand outs, especially in the current era we're in, where so many scents may last longer but pack one simple punch.
@MyPerfumeMap I'm curious- is there anything you layer Passion with? the day I tried it on, I could still smell a bit of lingering Intimate Fantasy by Britney Spears on my wrist. the leftover note was a quite natural vanilla musk that I found myself loving right alongside Passion's more heady mix. normally, I don't layer fragrances, but with Passion, are there any notes you've used to layer & bring any of its wide range of notes? just wondering!
Man, Bal A Versailles brings back memories. I googled it and it said this was Michael Jackson's signature scent. Go figure! Anyway I have Passion, but I never wore it in the 80s. When I purchased it recently and smelled it I realized this was the perfume I had been smelling at church all these years, lol. As soon as you walk in the doors it hits you in the face. White Diamonds is a no go for me however. Thanks for your review. ❤
I wonder if you could do a video on soft perfumes? I started layering Pure Grace with Hyacinth oil and it's so delicious!!! I don't like modern sugar bombs. Just clean soapy & peachy sandalwood, like Fancy Love. 😊
Anyone thinking Passion is like Dior Poison it is 100% nothing like it! In my opinion! I am a massive fan of poison, ( vintage of course ) love the stuff, and i recently blind bought passion, sure i would love it, and i hated it, just smelt like bug spray to me! I did make sure i bought the original one to, sealed! I also hate youth dew, ( which i personally think smells nothing like opium ) as i love that to, vintage one of course! I think i have an issue with perfumes with civet, oakmoss, styrax, those type of notes, and not fussed on rose either, so if they have them all in, probably not going to work for me!! Chypre is my least favorite category for sure!! Finally wanted to add my taste is mainly dark deep mysterious sexy fragrances, along with some amazing powerhouse ones from the 80s! Not got a problem with challenging, guess not a Chypre girl for sure, but i also do not want to smell like a cup cake or a cup of coffee either, drives me mad how many you tubers talk about fragrances smelling like food/drink, no thanks! But each to their own!
I adore heavy stuff like Shalimar, Ciara, Obsession, Poison, Habanita (love of my life, this one).... Got a bottle of Bal a Versailles (paid a pretty penny for it too, because it's discontinued as far as I know). It is beautiful, and I can appreciate it, I don't wear it because it's more of a collector's thing to me, personally.... but also because the civet note is extremely urine-like to my nose (and I mean just straight from the bottle, sniffing the cap, and on my skin as well). And I guess I'm a bit of a coward here, because it's not that I find it repugnant per say, I think it's extremely well-constructed and complex, but I would be so stressed out wearing this in public. And I mean no disrespect to anyone wearing this fragrance on the daily - if anything, I admire and respect your confidence and your appreciation for it.... But man, I could just never pull this off. Granted, I'm 27, so.... possibly too young to fully comprehend it, or posses the ability to wear it with confidence and nonchalance. Nonetheless, I still have it in my collection, and find myself fascinated by it. That being said, my fingers are itching to get hold of Youth Dew. Smelled it, tried it, I need it in my collection.
I bet you’ll brave bal a Versailles out in the wild soon. It is intimidating, but when I’m in a certain mood, I kind of enjoy the idea that I might be turning heads. I think Youth Dew is easier to wear. It’s sweeter. Thank you for commenting!

@@armandoandmariavivancos6393 well, some people don't like oud...and some ouds can be...how can I say this? Barnyard like? Fecal, even? Cabochard is such a gem! And they did it right. I got different bottles from different decades. It is still as great as ever. If I am feeling weak and down - this is the scent!
