The break pad assembly is the most challenging part, pain indeed. Have once reinstalled the springs in-place (after refresheing the break cylinders). Good to know you can assemble it dismounted. Would've been nice to see the assembly though ;)
@@MK2GolfStories LOL, did it with thin plieres and scredriver whatnot, what a pain lol. Heard from a local VW Beatle OG on my street he sometimes feels like that, too. What a relief :D Encouraged by a MK1 video, I effin managed yesterday to change the cable WITHOUT disassembling the break pad set :D On the otherhand, I tried to fix/refresh an unbroken cylinder by tapping it inwards a bit, and it got stuck (of course). HOPEFULLY I managed to loosen it with WD40 though. Tomorrow we'll see at the inspection. Otherwise feels quite OK. Didn't know I needed a project (pain) like that. Let's goo! :) Thanks
@@MK2GolfStories Inspection otherwise OK (the breaks etc), except emissions; due to leaking exhaust (before the backmost muffler). Oxygen levels 7 (5 max) elevated due to that leak. Dam!
Well Done. This should be a reminder to all the youngsters, this is the way things are still done across the pond. I enjoyed Dad as you were starting to explain to your TH-cam audience a procedure around the 11:00 minute mark, Dad Chimes in with "Put it on and tighten it up". First time I saw the hammer approach to setting the breaks to center. Anyone else would have thought it was fine just set the torque and go. But Dad had a better approach tap tap tap and suddenly the wheel was free again, as he explains how to center the shoes. l"ll be honest I do all my own work on my MK2 and I find the rear brakes to be one of the more challenging jobs. Anyone who doesn't read their Bentley Manual first will find out that you need a vise to put the shoes together. Here's a line to an online copy of the Bentley VW Mk2 Service Manual. eva2.homeip.net/eva2/index.html
Thank you very much dude and thanks for that manual link! I’ve been looking for a manual for the diesel golf for AGES and can’t find anything! This will be a massive live saver! Haha yeh man my dad is a f*cking legend, trying to include him more in the vids! Cheers

@@Hukkinen at least should be a relatively easy fix
is it the same process for a polo?
Yeah it should be pretty much
