My first yarn winder was an electric one by Boyd. Great at first but it would grind to a halt. Awful sound. Motor died. Switched to a manual knit picks. Did ok for acrylic. Switched to blanket and chenille yarn. Worked great but started making clicking noises. Troubleshooting on TH-cam proves that was because of the weight. But it works but now that I know that. Wouldn't invest in an electric one with how often yarn tangles and stops the winder. I like your honest review!
I got this winder too! It's a game changer. I struggled with thicker yarn a bit, but for DK/ARAN and thinner, it's phenomenal. For bernat, I had to halve the skeins so there wasn't so much on the winder. They made pretty neat/small cakes that way. Fluffy yarn, like halo colorama for example is horrendous for fluffies in this. it goes everywhere. I wound 12 cakes of it (I know they come in cakes, but I like them smaller) and my desk was COVERED in fluff.
I had similar issues with my automatic winder. Its not cado but it definitely had more problems with my blanket yarns which is why i got it in the first place (ugh) . I love my hand winder better but I may try cado now for my chenille. Thank you for the comparisons!!
What hand winder are you using? It looks nice
ooooh that looks cool!
Right!!!

Oof good to know for sure! I cannot wait to keep using it and having EVERYTHING wound nicely!

Yeah it definitely seems like they work better for some yarns than others!
