Aww. Auntie Toni gurl your hair is too cute! Thank you for the review and the discount code. I have killed two Boye full size electric winders. I think the flaw of their design was that fuzz/halo from the yarn clogs the mechanical parts. This design is more open and I don't see that being a problem. I'll give it a try 🤞🤞🤞🤞
I have a LOT of arthritis, so I think an electric winder would be a great addition to my tools. That way, I can save my arms and hands "time" for actually crocheting fun things!
this is really good for people with disabilities, health issues or just because! I have autoimmune diseases and im recovering from a car accident so this could actually be useful!
Yes I'm disabled as well and in particular I have chronic pain in my hands due to a birth defect, I'm asking for this for Christmas this year. I can't wait to get all my yarn organized into pretty center pull balls.
Toni…Oh my goodness the price of this one is WAY too much! $80! I have a Boye electric ball winder which works great for a lot less $… It has adjustable speed and can go as fast as you would want it to go. If you haven’t checked it out already maybe you can do a review on it for others to see how it works.
@@iamjamilyn great! Thanks for letting people know! The first link took me to the actual website so I don’t know if the second link takes you somewhere else.
I have killed two Boye full size electric winders. I think the flaw of their design was that fuzz/halo from the yarn clogs the mechanical parts. This design is more open and I don't see that being a problem. I'll give it a try🤞🤞🤞 I think we paid $125 and $150 for my machines. They are hard to find
So you gave me a flash back of my husband watching you try to put it together without looking at the instructions or the video 😂. Before my grandson was born we got his crib. My husband said he would put it together. I handed him the instructions and he said “ I don’t need them, I can figure it out!”. 2 hours and a bunch of cursing later and not one part of that crib was assembled 🤦🏽♀️. My daughter, who was 8 and a half months pregnant, was so angry with him that she kicked him out of her room 😂. I assembled the crib, step by step following the instructions 😉😂 Took me 25 minutes.
I couldn’t help but laugh. I’m not an instruction reader either. For my son’s 3rd Christmas I got him a trike. Needless to say when I finished I had forgotten the seat. Everything was a hex nut. Once on never off. I ended up at Home Depot begging a man who couldn’t stop laughing to help me. He did. I now skim instructions. Loved your post.
i actually have this winder! got it for christmas one year. personally, mine doesn't stop on it's own, but it is very good with winding fast and being able to hold bigger cakes
I don't mind winding yarn manually. It's meditative to sit and watch the cake come to life! I really like the sweater you're wearing. From another comment, I went to Ravelry and got the pattern. And your hairstyle is perfect for you. Looks very nice. Thank you for the review.
I bought it from Amazon after seeing your review. I will say depending on the yarn and the speed I used it's worth it to have handy in addition to a manual winder. My shoulder/arm used to get tired with winding some of my yarns when I have a big project to prep for; the extra time and finagling with the Caydo were worth it to not have the physical burn happen. It's earned a spot in my 'easy to grab' accessories shelf.
Thank you for this review. I have had this winder for three months and have yet to put it together and try it out. FYI: I did not pay that much for it on Amazon. I left it sitting in my “save for later” section and waited for the price to drop to the limited time 42% off.
"... you know good and dag'on well, I gave him ice cream." 😂😂😂😂😂 You look fall-mazing! 🧡🍁🍂🍁 And the cut with the neckline of your gorgeous sweater is stunning, showing them both off beautifully. 😍
while it might not be much faster, i think a tool like this would be really good for people with mobility/joint/muscle issues or injuries. i had surgery recently and had to wind some yarn about a week out, and it was ROUGH. i think especially if you have to wind a large quantity, this could be really useful! maybe not a time saver, but potentially an injury saver!
Yea, I'll just stick with my Stanwood and my own speed. I could've been done long before it actually stopped and that's too much finagling. Great review! Thanks, Toni!
Fun to watch you do it, but I like quiet so I wouldn’t do electric. That being said, with arthritis a big part of me now, the day for something like this may be in my future. Love your sweater🎉
Think I will stick to my non-electric ball winder and spend the money on yarn. What I am interested in is the pattern name and purchase info for the sweater you’re wearing. It looks like a fun and very wearable project.
I love that sweater you’re wearing did you crochet that and if so, is there a TH-cam tutorial on it? I am legally blind and cannot read patterns. I have to have video tutorials with step-by-step instructions to follow along with as someone is crocheting the item.
Toni I took the leap and bought this yarn winder during Prime Days on Amazon. So I only paid $40 which is much less than my Scheepjes winder I bought 4 years ago. I absolutely love this winder. The cakes are so perfect. I do have a question for you about your other winder that was in a previous post. What brand is it?
Got this yarn winder in the mail the other day after watching. I have a $60 yarn winder that is hand crank and had been MISERABLE with how it worked recently on a usually beloved DK weight acrylic yarn (Color Crafter I think?) that on the hand crank with no way to adjust the tension made super tight balls that created truly epic snarls whenever I tried to pull the yarn from the center ( am too new to crochet to know that it was mostly likely due to tension). Anyway, with this winder I rewound the miserable tight balls from the old winder into new balls. Not only did the winder work great (had to use Toni's tip to use ONLY ONE tension holder though, otherwise too tight) and fast (the machine is not speedy but compared to the misery I was dealing with before unsnarling the mess this was HUGELY faster because it worked properly) the ball came out at least half again larger because it was wound lightly and with those lovely lattice formations. The balls are now light and fluffy with a large hole in the center from which the yarn can pull out like a dream. Yes the old one cost me $60 but NO I will not be using it again. Ever. Thanks Toni for bringing us the good stuff. This was worth every penny and then some. My sanity is now intact.
Toni you have the BEST timing, I'm doing a massive rehaul on my organizing of my yarn and was looking for an electric winder to take the strain off my wrists. THANK YOU!!
Good Saturday People! Thanks Toni! Greatly appreciate you! I prefer to hand wind my yarn. ( So far, for past 57 yrs.! Started crocheting when I was 9 yrs old! )
The Algorithm lead me to your channel, and I'm so glad it did! I'm more of a sewist these days, but you are so charming and hilarious, I'm definitely subscribed now.
Great review! You answered all the questions I had like how does it do with different weights, what happens if the yarn on your swift gets caught, and how difficult is it to set up. Ultimately I’m happy with my manual winder and just not quite willing to fork over that much for something I enjoy doing by hand. LOVE YOUR SWEATER!!
As a woman who doesn’t mind putting things together and loves DYI projects, trying to put things together wearing nails is not so easy, so get you a set of magnetic-tipped screwdrivers…game changer for real!
I own this one. Definitely a learning curve, but I personally love it. I did have a 3 hr mess from a tangled cake, till I got the tension just right. Curious what you think.
I got basically the exact same one, color and all, with one less tensioner for like $55 less! It works well as far as I've used it so, I'm not sure if the $80 is worth it!
I'm loving that sweater, Toni! And that 'do is so lovely on you. I love my winder from Fiber Artists Supply, but considering the arthritis in my hands, I'm beginning to consider the electric option, so I appreciate this review. I probably wouldn't have gone for this particular winder, as I'm skeptical about its durability, but FAS no longer makes a motor for its older winders. I'll be interested to see how this performs long-term.
Ty for such a thorough demonstration that shows it in action and what watch out for instead of just talking about it. It helps immensely to evaluate whether something will work for my purposes.
I hate winding! I am buying the winder because of you and I have a standwood. If only they could mechanize that one! Thanks for a good review. I'm sold!

Now that I have the holders where you can pull from the outside, I don't do that very often because left overs are still pretty in tact. I think it would be good for someone who does a lot of winding or has difficulty having to turn the handle of a regular winder, but it's not for me. Thanks for sharing this info!

I wanted a yarn ball winder so bad. I got one of the wooden ones like you have. I go back to winding balls by hand, though. I guess you can't teach old dogs new tricks. I do love the way the cakes sit better than a ball, but I like my ball building better. Plus it's cheaper.
I thought "Oh that would be nice!" but then you got the bits and pieces out of the box and I would not have wanted to deal with putting it all together. The tensioners were confusing for me. So no, I'd rather use my manual winder. But thanks for showing us!
