I actually heard just last night that according to Luger he had to call the whole match with Perfect due to Perfect telling him he forgot everything they had planned. Looking back in hindsight, I wanted Macho Man to win the Rumble and face Bret in the main event. They could have put on an absolute classic and been a perfect passing the torch moment between the old and next generations.

@@CharlesChristinaWH yeah, that coulda been real fun going both ways. Doink as some kind of babyface ramping up the intensity of the pranks in order to help keep Taker down, but as a heel all if Doink's stuff would basically just piss Undertaker off except for like one or two spots that seem to "damage" him for a bit. Coulda been Real fun.

I actually have a soft spot for this Wrestlemania. This was the first Wrestlemania I ever saw live. We had just gotten an illegal cable box to be able to watch anything on PPV. So 8 year old me was through the roof excited. Never in my wild dreams did 8 year old me think I would be able to watch a wrestlemania live. Now I can very much realize that this wrestlemania isn't good. But that doesnt stop me from being able to still find enjoyment out of it all these years later. I hope you continue to go back do reviews of these old ppvs. Great video!

…and I’ve learned to LOVE that fact over the years, because it meant that wrestling only seemed to get better and better as time went on 😂😂😂

Urban legend is Tatanka was supposed to win the IC title from Michaels, but Michaels said, "That doesn't work for me, brother." Hogan hears this, and thus the brother steals the brothers line!

It can't be understated that not many can have a match with a 500+ lbs man & make it look credible, Bret is one of the few guys that can & did. Both of Bret's matches with Yoko here in WM9 & WM10 were decent matches. Bret knew Yoko/Rodney couldn't go very long in matches so to do what these guys did in that time frame is quite impressive.

During my upbringing, for long stretches I had zero access to WWF TV, which at times made it hard to follow.
As chance would have it, I was on a week-long trip to London with my dad in the spring of 1993. So I got to follow a bit more of the weekly build-up than usually. Hence, WrestleMania IX will always be a bit special for me. As a giant Bret Hart fan, of course I couldn't really be happy about the ending.
I actually think the first half of the main event was really good and I completely believe Bret saying that Yokozuna got tired and edited out a lot of the ending.
Rather than just have Bret Hart disappear, they should have at least had him go back in the ring and give Hogan a reluctant handshake. The way they did it, Bret Hart was made to look like a chump.

I really like that late 1980s early 1990s synth theme song at the beginning of the video!
I'm not holding it against Hitman that he got squashed by Yoko. I mean dude is like a million pounds, no shame in losing to him. It would be like a human apologizing for losing a strength competition with a gorilla. Dude you don't need to apologize to us. It's a frickin gorilla.

I was 6 back in 93. My aunt used to record PPV’s off Sky and I’d receive them a few weeks later. However, I’d not had any since Wrestlemania VIII the previous year, so a lot had changed for me. I did enjoy the new to me talent (especially Tatanka & Doink) and I was shocked and happy that Bret was WWF Champion. I’d turned on Hogan after he lost to Underaker back at Survivor Series 91 so I was happy he and Brutus had lost to Money Inc. (I was a big fan of Million Dollar Man) and I remember being super annoyed that he screwed over Yokozuna (I’m a huge Japan enthusiast due to wrestling, and that started with the Orient Express…yeah), so much so I recorded over the end with Animaniac episodes.

Hey hold up a second BROTHER! Hulk didn’t ruin WM9! All the Hulkster did that night at WM9, was come save Bret from Yokozuna, finish the job Bret couldn’t, and took the belt back. Leaving thousands of Hulkamaniacs screaming and going home happy that night. You’d think Bret would be grateful. But no! Instead, years later… The Hulkster goes out, gives it his best effort, puts on the squash match of the century beating sting, clean in the middle of the ring 1, 2, 3 at Starcade 97. Then in slides Good ole “it’s still real to me” Bret Hart to get his “revenge” against Hogan for WM 9, and help Sting cheat Hulk out of his title. Bret’s one sick individual
